10:36pm: At the Women's Omnium (it's a Track Cycling Sport), coming into the last run of the event one of our Aussie ladies is in second place and then didn't even attempt to win or even place in any sprints and we ended up in 5th. I mean, maybe she was tired - the event involves like 4 80 lap races, but gee you'd think you'd give it a bit of a go rather than just let four people pass you, one of whom was a New Zealander :OP

Haha, I shouldn't be so pressed :OP after all, the Aussie men picked up silver and bronze in the Men's Kieran event that took place just before, so good on them.

Also the woman who finished last had -32 points, not sure how they managed that.

In other news, it's the last day of the Olympics, which is a bit sad, I do enjoy a good Olympics, but all things must end. Plus Australia is (as far as I know) still in 3rd place on the Medal Tally, which is mighty impressive, go us!

In other news, I did get the roast port for lunch at my parents place, although the traffic was strangely terrible, the cars in front of me apparently didn't know the speed limit 1of the road we were on was 60 because they weren't even doing 45. What's up with that? Plus I had to go to tow supermarkets because the first one didn't have any roast pork, weird.

After lunch I helped my mother dispose of some dead plants and put the left over soil into a big pot were so transplanted some...Fragipani I think?

I remain itchy, sigh, although the Sorbolene cream I bought yesterday seems to be helping a bit, I really ought to go to the doctor about this though, it's getting really annoying, plus I keep scratching enough to draw blood sometimes, which I'm sure could have very bad side effects if I get an infection or something.

I also need to remember to try get my fellow library peeps together to do Trivia, which I totally meant to do last week, but then got buried it work I kept forgetting to do so. Shakes head.

Anyway, it's past 11pm now so I better get going...but before I do...

The Friday Five

6/1/24

These questions were dictated over my shoulder by ahunter3 on LJ.

1. In what ways do you expect/hope this year to be better than last year? Well, I've gone so far back in the archives I'm answering this with over half the year over (booo!) but yeah, it's been a good year and I think I expected it, I went on a cruise to the Australian Open in January, so that was a good time!

2. In what ways do you expect/hope this year to be worse than last year?

Well, it is a US election year, which even as an Australian is still a big concern. Seriously, we don't need that shit. Also the weather is a lot more crazy, this winter has been so cold.

3. What year would you travel back to if you could? Hmm, I'm not actually sure TBH...maybe 2000 that was a good year, the Olympics in Sydney! :O)

4. What was your worst year? Hmm, I'm fortunate in that I don't think I've had a really terrible year... maybe when I lost my job that I got through my Grandparents because it took years to eventually get a long-term, secure, full-time job again (like almost 10 years O.o)

5. What was your best year? Hmmm, I dunno actually, I've had many a good year...maybe 2019 because that's when I got the Inter Library Loans Officer job at the library. Yaaay!

On that note, I shall be off!

Goodnight!

11:34pm: Because I totally forgot to update you all with a good news story, the sort that makes one have faith in humanity. Two Fridays ago, Mrs S lost her wallet when the strap broke, and to add to the horribleness of this situation she had $400 of her mother's money in it which she was going to convert into US dollars (long story)!

When I came in on Monday she had decided to call the local police station to see if maybe it had been handed it, but alas...it was not there. I convinced her to try the other police station, which is near the bus stop, since maybe someone picked up the wallet and then ran to the bus before dropping it off. But no luck there either. :O(

Thoroughly depressing, yes? But as I'm sure you can gather from my title, that is not the end of the story! On Thursday Mrs S was in Dee Why where the second police station is and on a whim decided to pop in in person to see about the wallet.

And the wallet was there!! Somehow it hadn't been entered into the compute system - which is supposed to be done and since the system is connected it shouldn't matter which cop shop you call - and the wallet had been sitting there the whole week! However, the police officer didn't hold much hope the $400 would be in it because all lost wallets are checked for money and if its in there, they'll put it in the safe.

But when Mrs S opened it and reached into the cash compartment the money was there! Miracle! And how nice! I mean if I found a wallet with money in it I'd have turned it in without taking it, but you can't always depend on that. Once I lost my wallet and someone stuck it in a post box and Australia Post was nice enough send it on to me, but alas the money that had been inside it was gone.

So hooray! It was a Happy Friday when I came in and she told me what had gone down. Good news indeed, otherwise Mrs S was going to have replace that money herself!

In other news, I went over to M and Grandpa's house on Saturday for Canasta, I started off really well! But lo and behold as usual M rallied and won the game! I think Grandpa is her lucky charm, he was out at golf when I arrived, but he got back at which point M started winning. Oh well, kicking my butt at Canasta always cheers M up which is a good thing since she's recently had to get a wheelchair to get around, not to mention general stiffness and whatnot. So I'm happy to do my part...although I still wish I could win, LOL! ;O)

Anyway, I better wrap this up, it's almost midnight!

Before I go though one last thing, the Paralympic Games is currently on (although we're hardly getting any coverage, booo!) and great news, one of our men got a gold! Our first in 16 years! His name is Simon Pattmore and he's also got a medal from a Summer Games too! Brilliant news! Sure wish we had more coverage though...judging Channel 7 right now.

Right, and now I bid you all, goodnight!

11:19pm: Ok, I actually started this update last night, but then somehow closed my browser and by then it was quite late and I had to get to bed.

Anyway, it did auto-save it, so let's get back on it:

The reason for the subject heading? Well, exciting news! Our Aussie Skater, Brendan Kerry has just picked up a bronze medal at the Lombardia Trophy! Aaah! It's not one of the big well-known skating competitions, but important people still go there, so yaaay! How awesome is that! :O) I'm very much looking forward to seeing him at the Olympics!

Speaking of skating, I didn't end up doing any of my own today, it was rather warm and I ended up feeling pretty hot in my jeans and just generally uncomfortable, I ended up turning around and heading back home a third of the way there. I felt kind of disappointed in myself for not going - pft story of my life - I did actually think of going once I changed my clothes, but then my abdominal area decided to hurt and I just felt lazy.

I did end up going to the local shopping centre, to see about buying new sneakers, where I was surprised to discover that the sports shop has been bought out by another chain! That was quick, there was no indication they were in trouble. I think all the staff stayed which is good to know.

Anyway, they were having a 20% off sale, but alas I couldn't find a pair that really spoke to me. I thought about getting a rainbow pair but since I wear them to work I don't want them to be too over the top...or maybe I was just feeling cheap and the fact I couldn't find any under 80 bucks that weren't bright pink was what put me off. LOL.

As for today, eh, not a lot happened, I don't think I got enough sleep though because I felt really odd this morning, like...bummed out and shit. I feel better now, though, so that's a relief.

But damnit, once again I started writing on my fanfic too late, because I really have to go to bed now and I've done like...three sentences of it. :O( Perhaps I'll have to give up on my 70 books a year target, because reading stuff is interfering with my writing stuff. :OP

Anywho, time for me to go, want to keep on the right side of the zzzs!

10:26pm: Yep! The World's continues with the Men's Short Program! (Also the Pairs Free Skate, but that's on way too late for me to watch, in fact I think all the Free Programs will be on too late, which suuuuuucks)

The Australian, Brendan Kerry is next up so I'll have to make this another quick update. It's very exciting, he's been doing so well this year, I'm hoping he'll do really well. The competitions been pretty exciting so far, lots of different music, some of it pretty funny!

Anyway, like I said I have to make this quick, not a lot to report today, except it rained and rained hard! After it was so nice yesterday! I left my towel and swimsuit on the line so they were soaked through, I brought them in, but they're still wet...

There was also a Hell of a downpour while I was driving up to the gym, yikes! Fortunately it didn't get as heavy as that at any other time like when I was driving to my shift at the library, because that would have been scary!

I managed to get to the library, but I stepped in a puddle and got my socks all wet which meant I had to take them off, like that didn't suck or anything. Also, we thought perhaps it would be a quiet shift, with the rain keeping everyone away, but nope!

Interjection: Brendan Kerry is skating like a boooooosss! Come on, you can do this and qualify for the Free Skate!

And he has, wooooohooo!

Right, yes, as I was saying we though it was going to be quiet at the library, but nope, everyone decided to bring their kids in after school so it actually became a bit of a madhouse for a while! Fortunately people left in good time so we were able to leave and the rain wasn't too bad.

I did notice that my umbrella (the old one, I still haven't got my little one back from my friend) has little holes in it though, which is not very helpful! I did consider buying another one, but there wasn't anything available, guess I should have expected that.

But, yes all in all a good day and now I must be off, the rest of the Men beckon!

11:36pm: Well, at least somewhat as I'm writing this from the little bro's apartment, or I suppose I should call it my apartment. I decided to spend the night here after bringing over some more things including the kettle and giving notice (along with Mum) at the office of the agent that manages the Granny Flat. I'm hoping to practice the drive to Mrs S's place a few times before I move in completely just before going on the cruise.

However, this means I need to wake up half an hour earlier and thus I need to be in bed half an hour earlier...so I'll pretty much have to wrap up this entry here because I'm all ready late and when I don't get enough sleep a few days in a row I tend to get sleepy and headachey. In fact I all ready have a headache now, but that could be from being a bit dehydrated. The little bro doesn't keep a jug of cold water in the fridge here!

Anywho, this night has gone quite well, with the little bro and I hanging out in the living room watching the tennis, as I wrap this us Rafa's still on court, but alas, I can't stay up to see how it ends. Also our last Australian singles player is out, boo.

Right! Really gotta head off now. I'll have a more detailed report about the apartment next time.

Oh! And I ended up buying the green backpack, because I'm worth it. :OP

11:36pm: The Super Moon that is! The best time to see it was last night, but in typical Aussie style the sky was quite cloudy especially on the horizon so the moon couldn't be seen until it was high up.

I was hoping to get at much better view tonight as the sky has cleared up nicely! According to the news moon-rise was at 8:18pm, but when I went outside to look I couldn't see anything! I went out a bit later, but still nothing. :O( I popped out just now and the moon was there, and quite bright! But it didn't really look any bigger than usual, because once again it was high up in the sky so there was nothing to compare it to.

I am disappoint! However, I have realised, a bit late of course, that there is a hill behind where I live and I'm pretty sure that's blocking the moon. On the other hand...maybe it's just not that big here in Aus? Like the angle might be off or something. Like when we get a lunar eclipse and it never really seems to be as spectacular as hoped. Rude!

Anywho, I didn't update yesterday because there was much discomfort yesterday and I was starting to get rather worried...and then just after midnight that time o' the month finally showed itself. Hmpf, I shouldn't say finally because it's not that late, but I could have done without the headaches. I wonder if I shoulbd investigate this...

Ooo, I just noticed Plushenko the fish was lying on the bottom of his tank, but he was just resting! Phew, I was worried there for a bit because Mum and Dad's goldfish Roger died the other day, which really sucked, because he'd been so healthy last I saw him.

This does remind me that I'm supposed to do the water change...with any luck I'll have time to do that tomorrow before I need to head to the school and then on to M and Grandpa's.

And I can't believe I almost forgot to mention that I went to work today! The Library called me in for a shift yesterday afternoon. However, I didn't make the best impression with it as I ended up being late! Most of it was my own fault, but I wasn't helped by a jerkass behind me who when I spotted a parking spot wouldn't let me back up and then had the nerve to steal it when I moved forward with the plan to turn around. What an asshole! I could have kicked his car when I walked past it from where I ended up parking, far, far FAR down the street, but I'd forgotten what his car looked like by then.

Anyway I was late enough that the librarian on duty actually pointed it out! She said she didn't mind, but it's not a good look.

Aside from that work went pretty well, except for when this old lady showed up and got quite agitated, as it turns out she's a known 'pest' and the Council refuses to deal with her so I shouldn't have given her the council's phone number. Having said that, you'd think she'd have it all ready?

After work I decided - what the Hell - I'd go ice skating and hope the traffic would be OK at 4pm when I'd be heading back (that's generally the start of peak hour) and not wait for the last hour of the session.

It was lots of fun! :OD And there were a lot of good ice skater there for their training sessions, ones that can do the jumps and spins and all that jazz. Inspiring to watch for sure! Also, the rink is nowhere near as busy at that time of day. So maybe I should go during the week instead of Saturday afternoon.

And, yikes I've just seen the time! I better wrap this up and hit the hay!

10:54pm: Yes indeed, tonight Li'l Lleyton retired after losing his second round match to Spaniard David Ferrer in straight sets. Sniff, farewell Li'l Lleyton it was a great 20 years! I'll miss you! Especially since the current crop of Aussie men just aren't up to muster, and a lot of them are just plain bad sports. :OP

Although! There was an Aussie I'd never heard of playing today too, John Millman and he won his match and is through to the third round! I've never heard of him, but apparently he's been on the circuit for ten years, just goes to show how much I know. :OP But it was funny because his opponent was wearing green and gold, which are Australia's colours! Or South Africa's, but this guy was neither, he was from the Netherlands. Confusing. Anyway, it looks like he might end up playing an Aussie next round, Bernard Tomic, who has quite the reputation of being an ass. Either way good luck to him!

In other news, I finally cleaned the flat today! I got the kick in the rear I needed in the form of a text message from my landlady who said there was someone coming today to measure the place for cladding, now I'm pretty sure cladding is exclusively for the outside of the building, but the landlady said to make sure the place is clean, so that's what I did! It wouldn't pass Mum's standards, but I'd give it a 5 on my Sims scale. The only problem is the our paper recycling bin has disappeared, the wheels had fallen off so I guess the council took it away because it was damaged. Do'h.

Also of interest, I set up the overlocker today and I even managed to thread it, there's a nice instructive panel on the inside of the case. However, most unfortunately one of the two needles keeps falling out, damn. I put it back in once, but it just fell out again. Man, I need the manual, but it's missing...and the only ones I can find online you need to pay for.

And I see it's past eleven, so I better head off now, zzzzs are needed, I'm trying to get back to 8 hours a night.

I'm taping Li'l Lleyton's final press conference - although I missed the first part of it - I'll have to watch that tomorrow though and I did my Russian all ready, yay.

So now I say goodnight!

11:05pm: I really hate it when they randomly decide to freak out on me, I think I must have accidentally got something in them because they feel really weird like there's grit in them or something. Ow.

In other news, I need to decide if I'm going to the Book Fair in Chatswood tomorrow, I actually thought it ended today, but apparently I can't read. Thing is, I don't actually have that much money to play around with, also I probably shouldn't be buying more books, I can fit them here in the flat, but what will happen when I go back to the apartment?

And...I just remembered I was meant to do something for my mother, whoops. Better get onto that!

In sporting news, Serena Williams beat Maria Sharapova aka the screamer at the Australian Open Final tonight, praise the Lord! Seriously, I have real trouble believing that shrieking isn't deliberate, I can never watch any match that she's in.

Also! Australia won the Football (Soccer) Asian Cup! Sweeet, I guess I am somewhat of a typical Aussie as I do enjoy hearing about Australian teams winning, even in sports I don't give a shit about. :OP

And now, Memes please!

Interruptions

1. How regularly do you get interrupted at work, and how well do you handle it? I don't work, sob, thanks for rubbing it in. :OP

2. What was the occasion the last time a TV program you were watching was interrupted by breaking news? Um...hmm...I can't really think of one. There might have been something about those fires that broke out in October because they were really unexpected.

3. Whose flow did you most recently interrupt, and what was so important? Well, I did interrupt the workshop leader quite a bit this week, I didn't mean to, but it happens...

4. How easily does your train of thought get interrupted? Eas- hmm, what's that? I can't believe it now my nose is itchy - ily.

5. What’s something in your life that could use some interrupting? My unemployment! Seriously, this is bullshit.

Saturday 9

:Papa Loved Mama (1992):

1) This song is about a trucking "accident" that was covered extensively in the local paper. What's the big news story in your neighborhood? Ummm...I'm not sure, in the broader Sydney context there's the inquest to the terrorist attack in December, sad stuff.

2) The action centers around a motel. When is the last time you stayed in a hotel or motel? In mid-December when my parents and I went to Bathurst for my graduation.

3) In the song, Papa wants to surprise Mama with a bottle of wine. Do you prefer white or red? Neither, don't like wine.

4) This week's featured artist, Garth Brooks, has said that the late Chris LeDoux -- singer, sculptor and rodeo champion -- is his hero. If you had to single out someone this morning as your hero, who would it be? Well, I do admire Plushy a whole lot. A perfect example of never giving up!

5) Before he was able to support himself as a singer, Brooks was a bouncer at a bar. Have you ever had an encounter with a bouncer (either that he threw you out or came to your aid)? Nope, don't really go to bars, not my scene.

6) According to the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), Garth surpassed The Beatles as the top selling artist of the last 25 years. Whose music do you listen to more -- Garth Brooks or the The Beatles? For serious? I've never even heard of Garth Brooks! The Beatles for sure!

7) While 1992 was a banner year for Garth Brooks, it was a bad one for another country legend, Willie Nelson. Willie ended up paying the IRS more than $9,000,000. When you file your taxes, will you qualify for a refund? Or will you owe money? Oh shit, I owe money...which I haven't paid...and I really should have, but I kind of can't afford it. This is very awkward...I'll have to do something about that before I end up getting fined and having to pay even more!

8) When this song was popular in 1992, Sarah Ferguson, then the Duchess of York, was in all the papers and magazines for her controversial conduct -- including being photographed sunbathing topless with a man not her husband. Today no one seems to care much about what Sarah Ferguson does. Can you think of someone else whose fame was fleeting? Oh I don't know, she was in the news just recently defending her ex. To answer the question um...I wanted to say the Karadasian's but they're still around. Justin Beiber same story...Bummer.

9) This is Super Bowl weekend. Where will you be watching The Big Game? Not in the US and even if I was, I wouldn't be watching, football isn't my bag.

Right, better wrap this up, it's getting quite late, plus I should rest my eyes all things considered.

10:53pm: On the couch here in the flat, basically I've been sort of leaning on my right arm while having the laptop resting on the right arm of the couch. Looking at this in hindsight I should have seen that this would quite possibly result in a painful shoulder from putting all my weight on it. So now it is sore, boo. Oh well now I know better than do that again.

In other news, I went to the library for my volunteering today and it was great! The Inter-Library Loans lady is really nice and wants to help me get the sort of experience that will look good on my resume. Plus, you know, I love this kind of work. I'm going in tomorrow too before I have to go to the doctor about vaccinations and then onto the gym to cancel my membership before I head back here to the flat. Phew! Sounds like quite a day to be sure.

Hmmm, not much else to say, although I played along with Jeopardy tonight and finally won, so to speak, because I knew the answer to the Final Jeopardy question and the two guys who were waaay in the lead didn't and bet a whole lot! And I scored higher than the actual winner on the show, so yeah, I'll say, go me.

Also, when looking on the ice skating boards I saw a post about Australian ice skating - which we don't have many of, but there's a Junior girl coming up who looks pretty good, which is a surprise because Figure Skating's not big here. Although the Macquarie Shopping Centre Ice Rink is usually well attended. Last time I went I saw some ice dancers practicing, alas there were no twizzles to be seen. Anyway there's a skating competition over in France tonight Australian time but I won't be able to stay up for it, I hope the Aussie girl does fabulously.

Mystery

Do you read mystery novels? If so, why? Is it the mysteries themselves that appeal to you? The puzzle-solving? The murders? Or why don’t you read them? What about them doesn’t appeal?

I do love a murder mystery novel! I didn't use to when I was very young. Although I did read a couple of Agatha Christie's my father had which I enjoyed even though I couldn't figure out the murderer or if I did be damned if I knew the motive! But I really got into Agatha Christie novels in my 20s and I'm currently in the process of collecting all the books through fortnightly magazine/book collection. All of the books have reproduction of the original covers, which is especially cool.
Anywho, what appeals to me about them is the process of trying to solve the mystery, even if I don't manage to solve them myself.

And that's pretty much all I have to say for today - oh I washed my towel and the husband of Mum's friend down in the main house was nice enough to put it (and my other towels and miscellaneous other stuff) in the dryer because I was out volunteering at the time. Although that reminds me that I said I'd so some ironing, yet another thing to fit into the schedule tomorrow!

11:11pm: Whoops! I was on Skype though...which tends to make me forget to do stuff.

Pluuuus, not much happened again today. The cleaners came over, which resulted in Dad and I having to go outside (good thing the rain is gone) and wait while they did their mopping, vacuuming, dusting etc.

And Dad was nice enough to drive me down to Aldi so I could make sure to purchase more cheese cubes, because I kind of ate all the ones we got on Monday. LOL, I may have a problem...

In other news, I've made some plans to meet up with my friend from the country on Friday. I'll have to check out the bus schedules on how to get there...

Oh! And good news, my arm is all right after the flu shot, it was a bit sore when I leaned on it last night, but it's good now.

And...I applied for one job today, shit son, that was a pretty poor move on my part, but as it turned out I hadn't backed my latest resumes from my memory stick before it broke so I had to update it and all that. Must do more tomorrow! Otherwise I'll never get a job and that would be bad...very bad.

There has also been quite the kefuffle in state politics today! Our Premier was caught out regarding an incident with some stupidly expensive wine (think a $3,000 bottle) which he got from some guy who turned out to be crooked and not declaring it. Apparently he has no memory of getting it, but the crooked guy had a thank you note from him, so yeah...it looked bad. So the Premier has resigned, since accidentally committing perjury (the crooked guy's company is being looked at for corruption in an inquiry) isn't a good look.

So yeah! Now the Liberal Party (do recall that Liberal = Conservative here in Aus) has to find a new Premier to install. Now State Liberal doesn't suck quite as much as Federal Liberal, but eh.

Now, I'm watching Homes Under the Hammer downstairs with Mum, and my laptop isn't plugged in, so I probably shouldn't do too much on it, so on that note, I shall bid you all goodnight!

Branching Out

Amy and Sarah both asked about genres:

Amy asks:

Name a book you love in a genre you normally don’t care for. What made you decide to read it? Did it make you want to try more in that genre?

Ummm, hmmm...well I do enjoy Patricia Cornwell novels despite the fact that gorey crime novels are usually a big no-no for me. But I read one of them because it was a set text one year at school, and for a bookk you had to read it was pretty damn good. I ended up collecting the series although the latter books aren't as good as the earlier ones.

Bookish Sarah asks an interesting assortment of questions:

What genre do you avoid reading and why?

I can't really think of one...I'm game to try any genre! The wonders of reading, embrace it my friends. :O)

Right, I really really do need to go, despite my earlier claims I've been going to bed waaay later than I should be and this headache I'm beginning to get is a warning I'm sure.

Oh! On the biscutis I made yesterday are still good, although the bottom's are burned, I'll have to look into how to fix that next time I try to make some.

Not much else to say, except tomorrow is going to be a bit busy! First I have to finish up my resume for a library job at Surry Hills (I didn't make the interview round on the one at the Catholic University unfortunately), go to the gym and also go to the apartment to possibly show some perspective tenants and attend a Strata Meeting.

That being the case I should probably get to bed soon since I stayed up a bit too late last night watching housing shows.

And reguarding the political situation here in Australia, Julia Gillard remains our Prime Minister after getting 70% of the votes in the leadership vote today. The Big K has gone to the back bench and I'm not sure when he'll be coming back. I was hoping...but still, we've got to make sure Tony Abbott doesn't get in! Don't screw us over Australia.

And that's all I have to say for today.

Goodnight all!

10:55pm: Yes indeed, about two years ago the Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, or as I like to call him K-Rudd got the axe because apparently people didn't get on with him and the polls were bad. So he was sent to the Foreign Ministry and the old Deputy Julia Gillard took the reigns and became our first female Prime Minister.

Unfortunately for her, the polls got even worse! A lot of people felt the whole process was very undemocratic because even though Australia votes for parties not individual leaders this was the first time a sitting Prime Minister had been axed and replaced and it was like "Hey we voted for this dude! You can't just stick in someone else!"

So after that happened the new Prime Minister called an election which ended up tied, so some independants and the Greens joined with Labor and created a miniority government. Which the Opposition got all butthurt about and has been carping on about ever since. And like I said the polls have been bad and recently there's been lots of newspaper reports about K-Rudd making a comeback. Now personally I'm not too sure about the veracity of all these reports - it's claimed K-Rudd has been plotting against his own party since they rolled him. So things have got pretty nasty, and now there's going to be a vote on Monday to see who's going to be the leader.

This is srs bsns because on the one hand a lot of people seem to like K-Rudd, but it seems people who work with him don't like him, which would make running the Government rather hard if no-one's going to get along. And in the face of all this is the hedious possibility that the Liberal party (who are decidely unliberal think Republican Party) might get back into power! We all aready had to put up with them for 11 years, taking money out of public services and fucking over the less advantaged as much as possible, not to mention a completely lax attitude to climate change.

So basically this is a bad time for such sheninigans, althoug personally I wouldn't vote Liberal unless the alternative was something REALLY awful like the White Supremeist or the Extreme Gun Party or something, but apparently other people will vote based on the person leading the party so...

And this is perhaps the most I've ever written on politics before! Shocking, just shocking. Actually I wrote about it a bit yesterday but then my entry didn't post, so yeah.

In other news, I went to that appointment only to discover it was actually an old appointment for the other Unemployment place I'd been going to. Fortunately they were able to see me and I've got a standing fornightly appointment to do job searching on site, I suppose so they can make sure I'm doing it right. Which might be very helpful for me.

However! I have exciting news, Manly Library has called me in for an interview! It's a weekend job not a full time one, but if I manage to get it I could get my foot in the door! Which would be very exciting indeed! I'm hoping my Professional Placement from last year - in a library that is party of the network will score my big points. The interview is next Wednesday at noon, wish me luck!

And now, Meme time!

Booking Through Thursday

Blogs

What do you look for when reading a book blog? Does the blogger have to read the same genre? Do you like reviews? Personal posts? Memes? Giveaways? What attracts you to a book blog?

To be honest I've never read a book blog, though I did recently join goodreads.com and I might start reading some reviews there, but in general I don't really read reviews all that much, because taste is such a personal thing. I'd rather borrow or browse the book at a library and if I don't like it, I won't read it.

Although! I am a member of a Sweet Valley Snark comm and a Baby Sitter's Club Snark comm, those book reviews are damn hilarious. :O, so I guess I like a good sense of humour when it comes to book blogs. :O)

And oh! I don't know if I've mentioned that I've been playing Scrabble through a site called http://wabble.org, when I can get friends to join in, and today I had a major coup with a set of words worth 62 points! 'Quip' on a triple word score and 'hop'! Go me :OD

And I was going to say something else, but I've forgotten what it was. Hmmm...well, hopefully I'll remember it later.

For now though, I'm going to turn in!

Goodnight all!

3:14pm: OK right now the pressure is on...who's going to run the new Government.

At the moment we're looking at a Labour minority Government (thank God) or a re-election.

But thank GOD Tony Abbott is NOT our Prime Minister! There is a God, people! I would have died of embarrassment, seriously, just die.

Although would this Independent get to the fucking point? I must say the press is showing a lot of restrait, this is like Who Wants to Be A Millionaire. I'd be yelling. "Tell us who you're supporting, asshole!"

Sigh...come on...the excitement is dying down now.

Still going...

Still going....

And...

YAY! Labor Government! A Labor-Green Government even! Sweet! :OD

I'd like to thank the two Independents for not fucking us over.

And now I have to go to the supermarket.

11:07pm: LOL Capt John continues to have his amusing moments, for example, right now...he's getting hit on by an amnesiac version of Jack's crazy-ass brother Gray. If you know Torchwood you know there's only one way to describe this...

Awwwwwkwwwarrrd!

Although if Gray wasn't a complete nutbag who tried to kill him John would probably go for it, the pervert! But hey even he has his limits!

In more sober news, today was ANZAC Day, where we remember all the servicemen and women who have been to war. My big brother brought up an interesting point we and New Zealand are like the only countries who commerate our war servicepeople by remembering a day when a battle turned into a complete disaster. Other contries seem to celebrate their victories instead.

My grandpa was in the march, since he did see some action...all though not up close and personal, still he could have been shot at. I tried to spot him in the march (they televise it), but I couldn't see him. Shame.

The big bro and I went to M's house where we played chinese checkers and had pies and Anzac biscuits and lamingtons! Real Aussie fare. Then we played Chinese Checkers, which are neither Chinese nor Australia, but still fun. My big bro won, damn his logical lawyer-type mind!

And I probably should have gone back to my apartment rather than stay at my parants' place, but I didn't get nearly enough sleep last night, so I couldn't be bothered. I'll go back tomorrow, time dependant on whether the little bro comes for dinner or not.

And now Memes!

Annoyance

1. What’s the most annoying sound in the world?

Ticking clocks, Holy shit I hate them so much!

2. Which of other people’s mannerisms do you find very annoying?

Well, at the library, I had a boss, or supervisor rather who, when you were speaking to her would move her lips along with you. It was the biggest pain in the arse let me tell you. made it really hard to concentrate on what you were saying to her!

3. What do you do that really annoys others?

Ha ha, everything! :OP

4. In what way has your own behavior recently caused you annoyance?

Well, my spectacular lame-arse flip out over the life of a fictional character, even though it was Capt. John was not only annoying, but hugely embarrassing!

5. Who’s the most annoying person you know?

Well the big bro can be really annoying! So maybe it's better that he lives in Japan, LOL.

Saturday 9

:A Little Less Conversation:

1. If you could have just one more conversation with a person from your past, who would it be?

An old friend of mine called Diane, she went to China and I never heard from her again even though I wrote to her email address...apparently she's back in the country, but I've never seen her.

2. Do your friends tend to be male or female?

Female.

3. What is in your car’s trunk?

We have no trunks in Australia, we have car boots! And mine has a whole lot of stuff in it, including my epic George McFly story...I reallly should take it out of there.

4. What was the last CD that you purchased?

Man...that was ages ago, I'm pretty sure it was The Corrs' last album.

5. What is your favorite movie and why?

Back to the Future
the first one in particular! As to why...It's just got everything! I love the character of George McFly no doubt about it!

6. If you could wake up with a new talent tomorrow, what would it be?

Oooh, I'd really like to be able to play an instrument, the volin specifically.

7. What is your favorite day of the week and why?

Saturday! The weekend is on!

8. What are you wearing when you feel you’re at your best?

My regular clothes, LOL, I don't really wear clothes to reflect my mood.

9. When was the last time cried?

A few weeks ago, over Capt John's issues!

Saturday Special

24/4/09

What is the weather like where you are today?

Really nice! Warm and a bit windy. Great for marching.

The (Other) Saturday Six

Time

1. Do you find you don’t have as much time on your hands as you used to?

I sure do! Even though I have a lot more free time than most people I can think of! It just tends to get away from me!

2. Are you a “Clock Watcher”?

If I'm bored shitless yes.

3. Do you think that Time Travel is actually possible?

Maybe into the future? No wait that'd be the past...I assume if you can go one way you could probably go the other way.

4. If your late, do you let people know you are running late?

Depends if I have enough time or if I'm just rushing like a mad-man to get there!

5. Do you spend more time on the Internet or away from it?

On it, and that should porbably be a big yikes!

6. Do you think that as you get older the days, weeks, months etc go by quicker?

Fuck yeah! What's with that shit? It's totally annoying! But I guess once you realise how precious time is it happens.

Well once again it's almost midnight and I should get to bed soon because of the lack of sleep and all.

Before I go though, this was a cool quiz thing

The Blogalyser reveals...

10:40pm: Well, I won't be going to the US any time soon, because the damn Aussie dollar has taken a huge dive, it's almost down to under 60 cents! How much does that shit suck? Lame, lame, lame! Sigh, although apparently this is good for our economy for some reason, unless you know you want to buy stuff online from Amazon or something.

And I don't even wanna know what our dollar is against the British Pound, that's gotta be ugly.

I is tired, I didn't get to bed early enough last night, yawn! So yeah, I'm gonna make this quick and apart from anything else I don't have much else to report. Busy day at work, but that's about it. Although I did almost reach 10,000 steps today, I really do need to do that! I mean that's how you keep your weight steady and apart from anything else I need exercise dang it!

Ah well...

Hey they're replaying all the Air Crash Investigation episodes, and we're up to the second season, this show is cool!

Memes, please )

In other news, my fingernails have become transparent, seriously! It's creepy! What's up with that anyone got an idea? Am I lacking calicum (I doubt it) or iron or something?

I like how this co-pilot gets onto the tower to announce his emergency and the tower guy (who knows there's an issue) is all "Good morning."

Man, I would have said. "What the fuck, man! The pilot's hanging out of the friggin' plane and there's no cabin pressure. What the fuck, man!"

But yeah, gotta get to bed.

Although how about that crazy scheme to assassinate Barrack Obama! And a whole lot of other African-American people. Those Neo-Nazi's are crazy bastards...also is it just me or was that guy wearing lipstick in his file photo?

I hope nothing bad happens during the election though!

And now, I shall go to sleep as my leg has all ready done so.

Weird News

anonymoose_au: (Hufflepuff Represent)
9:20pm: Pride! Today I feel proud to be Australian!

Today the PM apologised to the Stolen Generations and because I had to go pick up paint for work I got to hear it on the radio! Unfortunately just before this in the paint shop I had to listen to Alan Jones, this conservative asshole. Ugh! I felt dirty just listening to him talk about how the Aboriginal people should stop whining and shit like that.

Speaking of shit, the Opposition leader's reply was really very poorly worded. The crux of it was "Sorry, but..." and there was a bit of blaming the victim and 'good intentions' thrown in there. No wonder he got booed by the crowds watching it on TVs around the nation! (No one booed inside parliament because...I'm not sure why, because I've heard them boo at other times.)

Oh, I went to the Broadway Shopping Centre (it's opened up again since the fire) and I even saw the blackened out section of the building where the sub-station blew up. Nasty!

Anywho, it got a bit embarrassing when I went to the Locksmith to get a new battery for my watch, only to discover...it doesn't need a battery, it's a wind up! Duh... Well, on the plus side I won't have to worry about having to buy batteries.

Hmm, there's a show about Women on Death Row right now, they're profiling a few of the women on Death Row in the US today. The first one appears to have got Death Penalty on really sketchy evidence. Seriously...sent to Death Row on the evidence of three criminals? Why am I not surprise this takes place in Texas? And oh yeah, the woman is black, no surprise there...The Death Penalty sucks.

It's Wednesday, so there are no memes today.

In other news...why don't people like Hillary Clinton? I've never understood the dislike there...because it never seems to be about her policies or anything, it seems like it's because she wears pants or acts 'too manly'. Or is it because she stayed with Ol' Bill even though he was cheating on her?

Although it looks like Obama's gonna sweep in, he's cool. :O)

Well, I don't have much else to say, so I'm gonna finish up here.

Goodnight all.

And all my chats came back to me :O) (I'm a bit obsessive and like to save 'em), of course I didn't buy it (shame on me!), I borrowed my brother's version that well he nicked too...geeze we suck, huh? Oh well just don't report me ;O)

Moving on my stupid back is sore and my Grandpa has advised me that it's probably my couch bed that's causing the trouble, damn thing, I know I should open up the bed (since it does fold out) every night, but every time I think of it I have a Homer Simpson moment..."I'm gonna go downstairs, unfold the couch, unroll the sleep-aw forget it goodnight." except I'm even lazier because I don't have to go downstairs. However I will point out that when my big bro is here it would be a bit a bitch to unfold the bed because then he'd have to move the desk and frankly I doubt he'd do it.

Oh great, right now on the ABC the Governor-General is banging on about education for his Australia Day Speech, not that I'm dissing education, but these guys are always so boring!

Speaking of which, today's Junior Australian of the Year is a boy who came here on a boat and eventually became a successful young film maker. When I saw that the only thing I could think of was he's lucky he didn't get shoved in Baxter Detention Centre for five years :O(. It's a damn state of affairs now a days especially when you consider the Senior Australian of the Year was also a refugee. Geeze, and here the government is trying to convince me that refugees jump 'queues' and steal jobs or live off welfare, not quite seeing that here, huh?

Australian of the Year was the doctor (who for the life of me I can't remember...) who created spray on skin, which helped save lots of live in the aftermath of the Bali Bombing and she is hoping to develop other medical advances. :O) Nicole Kidman was also nominated, I'm not sure what for, charity or something I suppose...although rumour was it was bringing Australia to attention by her acting (ummm, don't know about that.)

Heh, Kim Beazley (the large man) has a clear run to regain the Labour Leadership on Friday, although it'd be bloody embarrassing if another Simpsons thing happened and everyone forgot to vote except for one guy who voted for himself and thus swept into victory. :O)

Tomorrow is the Interview and no sooner had I crossed over the bridge and payed my $3 toll (given to me by my mother) I realised I'd forgotton my folder of references and stuff that I want to use to try and impress the interviewer. I really do think this job would be cool, and with the money I get from Uni I should be Ok in the finacial department and can begin saving for my bro's laptop, as well as my hopeful trip to the US.

The reason I was over at the parentals home today was for the Australia Day Party they threw...OK it wasn't much of a party, only my Grandparents and a friend from Church, but what the hey, we got yummy sausages, salad, rolls, lamb and pavlovas (they're white crusty, sugary things :O), no ANZAC busicuts or lamingtons I'm afraid. I should have brought some while I was at BiLo today, but I brought Tim-Tams instead.

Now, luckily Mum was able to find the Reference folder and I'll meet her tomorrow morning to get it before going onto the interview, I've got my interview clothes (which I need to iron) and I have to do my nails because they're obscenely long now. Wish me luck for tomorrow! :O)

Hmm, I think I'm gonna go play Sims 2 and watch Crime Night.
