7:42pm: So it's been a while since I've updated, because life has been slow, however I do have some very cool news to report.

Yesterday I was part of an archery round that had handicaps, there were different distances people could shoot and a handicap would be added to an archer's overall score to even everything out. Or at least that's what I assume they did. Being a newbie, I of course opted for the shortest distance because the day before I was on a target that started at 30m away and boy did I ever suck at it XD.

However! I had much better luck with 20m, 15m and 10m, even when the target faces got smaller - in fact I seemed to shoot better the smaller the target (we started with a 122cm one for 20 and 15m, then an 80cm one for the 10m and hen a 40cm). Go me!

Still, I definitely did not expect that at the end of the round I would be declared the overall winner!! :OD The prize I got was this golf umbrella with a target printed on it. It's really cool! I saw someone with one last week and wondered where the person got it and was told that it was a prize, so I figured if I wanted one I'd have to fork over actual money. Not so!

How neat is that? I'm quite proud of myself, obviously a 10m target is pretty dang close - I think that might be the distance people shoot darts at - but considering the first time I tried shooting a bow at Year Six I actually shot the bow instead of the arrow this is a huge improvement!

Although I do need an arm guard after all, not sure what's changed, but the string hit the inside of my elbow a couple of times before I borrowed one and there's a bruise there now. I got a second hand one at onsite shop which will hopefully work, otherwise I'll have to drop some dough to get a new one.

I also need to get some sun sleeves, because the weather is warming up and wearing a long sleeve shirt leads to a lot of sweating. Sun sleeves just cover your arms to prevent sunburn, although they only seem to be available online, so I guess I'll have to purchase them that way.

So yeah, that's my exciting news :OP Otherwise life continues as normal, although I need to make a start on my Christmas cards, they're mostly going to overseas people on the figure skating forum I'm a member of so I need to send them sooner rather than later, otherwise they won't arrive in time. But then I'm also playing Sims 4 a lot, they're got another sale going on so I'm thinking of getting a few more expansions - I probably shouldn't be encouraging EA, but it's fun! Sometimes the game does act a bit weird, but nothing too game breaking - fingers crossed!

On that note though I shall wrap this up so I can get to work on some of that stuff, but I shall do

These questions were written by allude on LJ.

1. What is your favorite childhood memory? My family's three month trip around the world when I was nine almost ten. It was seriously awesome! We went to both Disneyland and Euro-Disney, went to school in England for a bit, travelled all around Wales, England and Scotland and on the way back we stopped for New Year's Eve in Hong Kong. So many memories...

2. If you could be reincarnated as anything besides human, who would you want to be? I always wanted to be a dolphin! I'd have to steer clear of nets and killer whales though!

3. If you had to start your life all over, what are three things you would change? Hmm...that's a hard one, I guess first I'd get rid of the IBS because screw that, nix the anxiety issues as well and...that's all that comes to mind, I don't want to change too much, otherwise I might end up not being me!

4. If you had to forget everything in your life, except one thing, what would it be? Geeze...that sounds terrible! I guess...does my family count as one thing? It better because that's what I'd want to remember.

5. Do you have a lucky charm? Nah, not really. I do have a little Chef Pusheen stuffie that I wear on my backpack that I wear to work, so maybe that? Or my Pusheen wristlet where I keep my bus pass.

Righto, ta ta for now!

10:51pm: Yes, it was Trivia Night tonight and our team won! :OD This is somewhat unusual! Although only one or maybe two teams that we usually go up against, which might have had something to do with it. We also had a person who doesn't often come, who knew about music (our weakness!) there, who also picked up three bonus points for us. :OD

The prize for first place is a $75 food/drink voucher for the pub, so next time we have trivia dinner will be free. Hooray! :OD

So yeah, a great night!

What else to report? Not much, we did have the meeting with the big boss of the library today, I was a bit concerned that it was gonna be one of those super long, boring meetings, but fortunately no, although it was a bit light on details. On the plus side it looks like the library is doing really well, so yay!

It's 11pm now, so I better head off, short entry syndrome strikes again, but hey short and sweet ;O)

I also put a load of washing which has finished so I better get that out as well.

Goodnight!

11:00pm: Eek, I'm gonna have to make this quick, but today was the first lesson of the four week Beginner's Archery Course. Our coach was a nice older chap this time around and we were on the opposite side of the field and the three targets seemed very close to each other, long story short though, without been able to close my non-dominant eye, aiming is quite the crapshoot. I managed to get two out of three arrows in the target, but one would always miss! I tried to squint my left eye, but it was rather difficult and judging by how wide some of the arrows went I obviously focused with the wrong eye. The coach mentioned that he actually used an eyepatch himself, so I guess that's what I need to do. I was planning to go buy one this afternoon, but I left my run to the shops a bit late and the pharmacy was closed when I got there. Ah well, there's always tomorrow. I'm hoping that this will help out because when I DID manage to aim with the right eye as I said I hit the target, I even got one in the yellow zone! :OD

I did take photos of my arrows - including one where the coach moved my arrows into the bullseye XD if only! But yeah there's three more lessons to go, so I'm hopeful! We also got a little guide to archery thing, so yay! I wonder if I should take my old schoolmate's offer of getting me some of her father's equipment. It would sure save me money, although with my supershort arms the arrows will probably be way too long LOL, and the bow would be too big probably (unless the father is rather short). But it never hurts to ask I guess. I'll look into that.

Now, I better be off, because my eyes have been a bit weird since the middle of the day, really tired, I even took a nap in the afternoon although it didn't really work. So yeah, gotta get those zzzs.

I got a McFly July prompt done though, so overall a successful day!

Ta ta for now!

11:23pm: At the Rhythmic Gymnastics Group Final! One of the routines each team needs to do has three ribbons and two balls, and they're proving difficult. I mean they probably always are and the fact it's an Olympic event means even more pressure! Poor Ukraine though, they had such a good qualification, but are probably out of a medal.

On the upside after a lackluster hoops rotuine Uzebekistan (the one with the U) is having a good time with this second routine, so maybe they can move up! Fingers crossed.

Not a lot to report today, I went to bed really late last night - the individual Rhythmic Gymnastic event didn't finish until nearly 2am! So I woke up late and then spent the day catching up on the Artistic Swimming (formerly known as Synchronised Swimming). I was disappointed to discover that no men are at this event, having not made the cut for their respective teams. Although apparently they have shown up at non-Olympic events, I should go check it out.

Hmm, I don't think Uzebkistan had much luck, shame :O( Maybe China can get on the podium though, that'll be exciting for them.

Sure wish my live stream would stop skipping though, very rude.

Anyway, I want to make sure I get to bed much earlier tonight because I'm going over to my parent's place for lunch tomorrow, i have to bring the Roast Pork so I can't be late!

So on that note, I bid you all goodnight!

10:45pm: When they said that the Speed Climb was the fastest event at the Olympics. We're talking like under 6 seconds for each round LOL. I was a bit excited when I thought there was an Aussie in it, but it turned out to be a New Zealander and alas he had a slip at the top and lost in the QF. He was up against the guy who currently holds the World and Olympic Record, so not a bad go.

Rhythmic Gymnastics has also started! There is an Aussie in that, but I don't think she'll make it into the final, still they do have a preliminary round we they show off all their skills, so that's cool.

Hey there's an Iranian in the Speed Climbing, and an Indonesian, that's pretty cool!

What's not cool? This bloody itchiness!! Although I'm judging myself because I haven't made an appointment with my doctor yet...I guess I should do that now. I am seeing my psychiatrist tomorrow, but I don't think he'll be able to help out unless whatever's triggering it is psychosomatic.

OK, well boo, no appointments with my Doc until Monday...and then only in the middle of the afternoon and he's all booked up on the Tuesday... So yeah...maybe I should go to the other medical centre just so see if I can get some relief until I can get in to see my Doc.

In the mean time, I guess I'll just put cream on there, but still boo.

But hey the second round of the Rhythmic Gymnastics is back on, ball and ribbon this time, I still have no idea how they throw that ribbon around with getting it tied in knots, but he I guess that's practice!

But I should probably make sure I get to bed at a proper hour, the psychiatrist appointment as at 11am, but last time I went I was kind of rushed and ended up having a panic attack of sorts. Which suuuuucked.

So yeah wish me luck with that!

Transportation

These questions were written by roosto on LJ.

1. What is your current main mode of transportation? e.g. car, bike, subway, walking, etc. Le Bus, which I take to get to work, although a work colleague drives past my house on her way home so I get a lift home with her.

2. Are you satisfied with your current main mode of transportation (answer to question 1)? Why?

I am, because I don't live very far from where I work and because I go in peak hour, if I took my car it would take twice as long because I wouldn't be able to go in the bus lane and I'd also have to find a parking spot.

3. Do you think you'll change your means of transit soon? e.g. buy a car, get rid of your car, walk more etc.? If so, why? Nah, see above. Although during COVID lockdowns I did drive my car to work, but then there wasn't much traffic on the roads at that time, and parking at the Mall was free.

4. If time, distance and money were not factors, how do you prefer to get from point A to point B? I feel like I should do more walking and I do indeed enjoy taking a stroll, so I'd do that.

5. What was your worst transit experience? About 10 years ago, I had a serious panic attack on a train, it was so bad I was running through the carriage desperate to escape. People noticed I was freaking out and thankfully, came to help me, but I scratched my sternum area up something awful and following that I had trouble getting on trains for some time. I've been doing exposure therapy to get back on trains though and it's been going well.

Right and now I bid you all goodnight!

10:24pm: As an Aussie to actually "go back in time" when flying back from an overseas destination, but as Fiji is 2 hours ahead of Australia it happened!

So now it feels like 12:30am, but I can't head off to bed yet because I'm just finishing up making cupcakes for the Get Together at Mum and Dad's retirement village tomorrow, the last batch is just about ready to take out of the oven. And I should maybe make the frosting tonight, so I can frost them tomorrow, or maybe just wait for tomorrow, hmmm...

I do remain confounded over the flatness of my cupcakes...I put the baking powder and self-raising flour in, but they hardly rise at all. I wonder what I'm doing wrong? Hopefully, Mum won't be too disappointed by their appearance, and I only got 18 out of this batch as well so I'm not sure I can even taste-test one.

But I digress, this morning I was in Fiji! It's really amazing what planes allow us to do...I mean it seems like ages ago, but yeah it only took four and a half hours to travel 3,000km or so!

It has to be said, the difference in the weather is a bit of blow, it was a lovely 24 or 25 degrees C in Fiji, but now back here in Sydney it's 12 degrees! Brrrr.

Although, I did have a bit of a bad time this morning, when my IBS decided to wig out a bit...I ended up not having much breakfast - which wasn't helped by the fact the toast at the hotel this morning wasn't very tasty. The fruit platter was good though!

Now we didn't need to get to the airport until 1:35pm, but last night Mum came up with a plan to visit a very fancy hotel on the way to the airport, it's one of those places that have overwater bungalows, so we checked out at 11am to head that way. We ended up running a bit behind schedule and the taxi driver drove at quite a rate of knots! Not gonna lie I did briefly wonder if we were throwing caution too much to the wind and might end up having an accident, however, as you can tell by the fact I'm writing this we did not.

As it was though, we only had about twenty minutes or so at the hotel, we didn't venture very far into it, but we did go to the restaurant and had a drink (coffee for Mum and her friend, and what was meant to be an iced chocolate for me, but I think was a regular milkshake). The restaurant overlooks this beach which might be man made, that has the overwater huts and there's also beachside bungalows, so all in all a very fancy hotel indeed! I might need to save up my pennies to go there, although it probably wouldn't be for the whole time since that place is like $500 a night! o.O

It was a bit of a concern when our taxi driver, who was supposed to come and get us at 12:45pm didn't show up at first! I'm not sure where he got to, but it seems everyone knows everyone in Fiji and the hotel clerk was able to call him and let him know we were waiting.

We needed have worried too much though, because we got to the airport in good time - although I hoped to spot this goat we saw on our way to the hotel when we first arrived, Mum's friend actually spotted him first, he was hanging out in an old broken down car that had become overgrown with plants. You'd think this wouldn't be a hard thing to spot, but as I said we didn't manage to spot him.

Now the idea was that I would split off from Mum and her friend and do the whole checking in process and getting to the plane and all that by myself like I'm going to need to do when I come home from Japan next year. It didn't quite go that way though, firstly, I'd forgotten to download my boarding pass after Mum checked us all in, so we went to the check in counter together to get them printed off. Then I went off to change clothes and go through security and x-ray by myself, which was a bit an ass because as always I have way too many bags :OP I managed to get through in the end without losing anything.

The Nadi Airport is quite small compared to Sydney and I spotted Mum and her friend pretty quickly on the other side of security, but I decided to sit separately from them, at least until I went to fill up my water bottle, then I went and sat with them.

Then the plane was delayed, not for super long fortunately, but during this time I found out what the security people meant when they told me not to put the large rubber band back on my carry-on bag (it's a bag that has a lid that pops open and it's a bit iffy so the rubber band helps stop it from suddenly popping open at inopportune moments), apparently due to Aussie quarantine rules, they check your bag again before you can get on the plane. Also after filling my bottle with water I ended up having to pour it out. Shame.

Then, I was supposed to be sitting on the other side of the plane and a row back from Mum and her friend, but when we went to the check-in counter, the chap who printed off our boarding passes reassigned my seat so we were all seating together. In the end though this turned out to be a win, because firstly, the person who I would have been sitting next to was rather tall and wide so I would have been squished and secondly the tray table of my original seat didn't work! So thanks check-in counter chap!

On the good news side, even though the estimated time for the flight back from Fiji without the tailwind was five hours, that must have been a worse case scenario because as I wrote earlier it was four and a half hours. On the bad news side, the wi-fi wasn't working on the plane so even though I downloaded the Qantas entertainment app I couldn't watch Ghosts liked I'd hope, so instead I did one of the giant crosswords in the book Mum's friend purchased, I didn't actually finish it LOL.

Also while there wasn't 42 kids on this flight, there were two in close proximity to us and they cried like practically the whole flight! I mean, daaamn I get it during take off and landing, but the rest of the time... On the plus side there was a third baby who slept the whole ride so it might have been worse LOL.

Right, so it's coming up to midnight now, which is like 2am, so I'm gonna wrap this up here and head for bed even thought the archery is on at the Olympics which I enjoy watching. Ah well, I'll have to catch up I guess.

Goodnight all!

9:24pm: Sir Michael Parkinson that is, who's pretty much the David Attenborough of TV interviewers.

He's in Australia doing a tour although sadly I wasn't able to go to either of the events at the Opera House. Which was huge bummer. But what should happen, but my mother received two tickets to what seemed to be an unrelated book launch event. At first I wasn't really interested, but then Mum discovered that introducing the author would be Parky himself! :OD

So we went off to the Maritime Museum in the city this evening to attend. The book in question is about Captain James Cook and actually sounds quite interesting, however Parky was the real highlight, he's from the same county as Captain Cook back in England, and is a friend of the author which is why he was giving the intro. But yes, Parky is quite old, but still very witty.

Anywho, I did get a few few photos of Parky, but after the event he stayed behind and Mum at eventually convinced me to go over what say hello. He was very nice, I told him that I loved his work and that I had his autobiography (too bad I didn't bring it with me, he could have signed it). He thanked me which was cool :D I also gave him a kiss on both cheeks.

Alas I didn't actually get a photo with him because other people wanted to speak to him too and I didn't think of it until Mum and I were leaving and one of the other people had his phone out and was getting one. Ah well...

Lest you worry about the author fear not be was signing copies of his book and There was quite a line. So I'm sure didn't feel left out :OP

So that was the excitement of the day! Although this morning I did go with Mum to see the Downton Abbey movie. Which was a big confusing for me, not so much because I hadn't watched the series (I did see a few episodes), but because a couple of the actors looked very similar and it took me until three-fourths through the movie to figure it out LOL. Still an alright movie though :OP

I was about to wrap this up and then I realised, I don't think I ever mentioned my extremely exciting news...

I got a full-time job at the Library!

And not just any role, I'm the Inter Library Loans Officer. This was the job I a ctually went for over two years ago, but list out to the person who left the job in mid-September.

So the best thing apart from the full-timeness is the fact I'm still in the dame section of the library with the Collections Team. So I get to stick with the same co-workers, yay!

I've actually been filling in for the ILL Officer since the other person left, although that didn't necessarily mean I would get the job, I still had to do the interview. But hooray for me I managed to impress, go me!

I officially started the role last week, but ironically I'm already on holidays because prior to getting the ILL role I had too much holiday time so had to take it any way, so I'm off for two weeks. Wish is why I was able to go to the movies with Mum.

Mum and I will also be heading down to Canberra on the weekend to hang out with my Aunt and Uncle and see some of my cousins, which will be fun! :O)

Right, so on that exciting note I shall be off.

Goodnight!
anonymoose_au: (Default)
11:22pm: But that's not my fault, I had an update all ready to go last night actually, but when I went to submit it, the internet decided to have a fit and not be connected so it didn't post! Then when I went back the update page nothing had been saved like it usually is and by that point it was nearly midnight and I didn't have enough time.

No need to despair though you didn't miss much, unless you think my tale of driving on a nearly empty fuel tank exciting. :OP It did get super low though! Of course, today as expected petrol prices had fallen, grumble grumble. so rude! Sometimes I feel like I should advertise when I get petrol because I can guarantee the very next day it'll be cheaper.

Anyway, moving on, not much excitement this week, in fact less exciting than usual because alas the time difference between here and Italy - where the last Junior Grand Prix event is been held means I haven't been able to watch any of it yet. Which is a huge shame because one of Plushy's students is there! I found out today that Plushy himself isn't there because he's with another student, but the skater in question, a young man, did totally awesome in the short program and is currently in the first! Apparently, he was thinking of quitting at the end of last season because he wasn't skating well and having problems with his jumps, but I certainly didn't see any evidence of that. How cool for Plushy and his team, you go, man!

So yeah, you know you've got an unexciting life when you have to write about someone else's LOL.

Oh, well, I did decided to make use of my fitness app to see how my eating habits are, since I've been gaining weight recently, unsurprisingly I've been eating too much, do'h! Not a lot, but enough so adds up. Guess I have a choc chip cookie eating problem, LOL. Hopefully I can figure out some healthier snack options, because I do get hungry.

Anywaaay, I better wrap this up because time is moving on and I do feel a bit sleepy, need to get the zzzs!

Hopefully I'll have something more exciting to report this weekend LOL.

But wait I almost forgot! This evening had some excitement so to speak - I was meant to meet Mum and Dad for dinner at the Golf Club for their cheap Friday eats. I ended up going to the parental house first to help Mum with purchasing something from E-bay where I found out poor Dad had gone to the Eye Hospital in the city because he was having vision issues! D:

Mum and I ended up going to the club - although it turned out it wasn't cheap fish and chip night, but we shared a regular priced one, LOL - during this time Mum called Dad and found out that his retinas are OK, although apparently he has to keep an eye (no pun intended!) on any further symptoms. He had to leave his car near the Mall and catch the bus into the city, so I drove Mum over to the car and Dad got the bus back so she could drive him back.

I meanwhile headed home, and who should pull up next to me, but my little bro going...somewhere. LOL this is like the first time I've ever randomly gone past him - and at first I didn't recognise him and thought some weirdo was waving at me from his car. But nope! Pretty neat, I must remember to mention that to the parental units.

11:39pm: Well, according to my calendar that time o' the month is meant to be here and I'm certainly feeling the symptoms I usually have, sore legs, confusion, clumsiness, lower abdominal discomfort...but no actual period. Very annoying, 'cause I just know it's gonna sneak up on me at some point and that's never pretty.

Anyway, I'm tired and feeling ditzy, but I do have very exciting news from yesterday...

My Yuuri Katsuki figurine arrived!!! I made a Tumblr post about him. Seriously, as Marty says "All the best stuff is made in Japan", the figure is totally awesome! With three different faces and a whole lot of different arm and hand parts you can do all kinds of things with him! I've got him set up next to my bed. Although I did get a slight scare last night when I thought I'd lost his glasses (pft that'd be the story of my life if I didn't have to wear mine all the time), they didn't seem to be anywhere and I was about to give up when I finally spotted them. Phew!

In other news, the Government is being a bigger pain in the ass than usual...if they're not undertaking an expensive and completely unnecessary non-binding postal vote about marriage equality (seriously this is the biggest BS ever), the PM is deciding that if North Korea actually does something to the US our army will be going in.

Doesn't give one a lot of confidence in the future. :O(

However, I can't think too clearly about this now as I'm super tired and need to get me some zzzs, so er...enjoy the pretty pictures of my new figure at least, LOL!

11:17pm: Indeed, they had a tendency to slip today when I went skating, which is never good, after all I don't want to fall on my ass!

This time I got there just as the session was starting and aaaah skating on new Zamboni-ed ice is the best! So smooooth!

Speaking of skating, Plushy decided to be the legend he is and resurrect his most famous exhibition program - a strip-tease (panic not, he wears a muscle suit!) to Tom Jones's Sex Bomb. It's as hilarious as it sounds. I'm a bit bummed I didn't try harder to go and see these shows as I'm pretty sure this exhibition piece won't happen again. On the other hand I'd probably die from the thrill/second-hand embarrassment :OP

Still the lesson is...Plushy is more awesome than you. :OP

What else to report? Well, I got my laundry done, a day late and the pizza base so I could make my pizza also a day late.

I'm also thinking I need to get more zzzs - this is a common refrain for me, but I was quite sleepy as I drove home from the ice rink today and you know...driving when sleepy is a baaaad idea.

Which is why I have to wrap this up because I need to get to bed soon and also because my brain is not functioning right now, LOL. I wish I had a clearer head though I want to write more on my fan fic! It's going pretty well, although I'm not entirely sure I've picked the right tense to write it - did I mention this before? I think I started with the present and I keep falling back to the past. Obviously I'm gonna have to check this over carefully if I finish it and put it up. :O)

In other news, I managed to be fifteen minutes late to work today, on a day that the second-in-charge is on shift, of course. Argh damnit, why do I fail at life like that! 11:45pm: I didn't get around to updating last night because I was busy telling the Figure Skating message board about the ice skating show and thus didn't have time to do so here!

However! In the world of International Figure Skating there's one last competition left, the World Team Trophy which I was watching tonight and then as soon as it finished I had to make cupcakes for the party tomorrow so I'm only just getting around to updating!

Anyway, it was an amazing show! Even though I didn't get a photo with the Aussie skater after all, he disappeared not long after the show finished - probably because it ran late and as soon as it ended the hockey players came out to practice. But! I did spot him in the new gym area at the ice rink while Mum and I were in the foyer picking up our tickets. I'm not sure about the wisdom of putting a big-ass window in a gym area, like you don't really want perfect strangers been able to stare at you!

They've also added a huge TV screen to the ice rink! How cool! There was a professional person filming the show actually, which is why I didn't take much video myself, because the camera he had was waaay better than my mobile. Although, having watched some of the video back I'm most proud of how steady I held it, go me. :OP

Like I said it was a great show, there were lots of skaters from all skill levels, from tiny 5 or 6 year olds to our Aussie Olympic Skater! There was even a skater who twirled fire! Except, she had trouble lighting the fire sticks, so that ended up being a bit awkward, LOL.

And Brendan Kerry (aka the Aussie skater) and his figure skating friend from the US showed off their backflips, which are always a big hit! I need to upload the video of that to show you all.

There were quite a lot of funny moments too, the US guy even skated a bit of Swan Lake en pointe, or should that be en blade and all!

And I can safely say 'the lunge' is the move of the year, everyone was doing it!

Right oh, I better be off now, I need to get the second batch of cupcakes out of the oven and get ready to go to bed. Tomorrow's gonna be a busy day! Wish me luck getting to my friend's housewarming tomorrow, Mike Pence has decided to visit Australia and if we're unlucky my friend and I will get stuck in road closures (just when you thought the US Government couldn't be any bigger of a pain in the ass).

Goodnight all!

10:26pm: Yep! The World's continues with the Men's Short Program! (Also the Pairs Free Skate, but that's on way too late for me to watch, in fact I think all the Free Programs will be on too late, which suuuuuucks)

The Australian, Brendan Kerry is next up so I'll have to make this another quick update. It's very exciting, he's been doing so well this year, I'm hoping he'll do really well. The competitions been pretty exciting so far, lots of different music, some of it pretty funny!

Anyway, like I said I have to make this quick, not a lot to report today, except it rained and rained hard! After it was so nice yesterday! I left my towel and swimsuit on the line so they were soaked through, I brought them in, but they're still wet...

There was also a Hell of a downpour while I was driving up to the gym, yikes! Fortunately it didn't get as heavy as that at any other time like when I was driving to my shift at the library, because that would have been scary!

I managed to get to the library, but I stepped in a puddle and got my socks all wet which meant I had to take them off, like that didn't suck or anything. Also, we thought perhaps it would be a quiet shift, with the rain keeping everyone away, but nope!

Interjection: Brendan Kerry is skating like a boooooosss! Come on, you can do this and qualify for the Free Skate!

And he has, wooooohooo!

Right, yes, as I was saying we though it was going to be quiet at the library, but nope, everyone decided to bring their kids in after school so it actually became a bit of a madhouse for a while! Fortunately people left in good time so we were able to leave and the rain wasn't too bad.

I did notice that my umbrella (the old one, I still haven't got my little one back from my friend) has little holes in it though, which is not very helpful! I did consider buying another one, but there wasn't anything available, guess I should have expected that.

But, yes all in all a good day and now I must be off, the rest of the Men beckon!

Goodnight all!

11:48pm: My air-con is letting me down again, which really sucks, because it's the only thing I've got in here...I really should have got that bedside table fan, because I'm sweating and feeling thirsty and generally uncomfortable. Plus I can hardly concentrate on this entry!

I'll make it brief, work went well although it ended up getting very busy and then the printer decided not to work, or rather the computer's wouldn't communicate with it properly, which was a problem last weekend which I thought they fixed. Grumble, grumble, well at least the tech person will be in tomorrow, so fingers crossed she can solve it.

Also people were very slow to get out at closing time, good thing I'd set my recorder to record the skating on SBS! However, I didn't hurry home to watch it, instead I took my pyschiatrist's advice and headed for Macquarie and ice skating. Or rather to the Skater's Network, which is where I get my skates sharpened. As it happened, my skates did not need to be sharpened, which rather sucked because it was quite a drive! I ended up buying some new laces for my skates to make it worth my while.

Then it was back to Macquarie to buy new towels for Mrs S (somehow some bleach got on the one's she had, from me...but I have no idea how, because it seems amazing I managed not to get any bleach on myself, a minor miracle in fact!) and then skating time!

I discovered something quite interesting...it would appear that I'm a clockwise spinner, that is I find it far more natural to move in that direction. However most skaters are anti-clockwise spinners, so that's pretty hilarious. Typical me, I'm sure. :OP

Not that I can spin a lot, of course, but I can do one revolution, which is how I figured this out...and it sure does explain why I couldn't figure out to do the turning to change direction thing. Although...I'm sure I remember learning to do it both ways?

Ah well, anyway, very interesting!

And now, it's almost midnight so I gotta go, bed calls.

11:40pm: Yes indeed! And I was planning to upload some of the photos I took, but I got caught up watching Roger Federer kick the butt of Tomas Berdych in the Aussie Open and now my laptop's touchpad has decided to act weird on me, so even though I've downloaded the photos I can't resize them, which really needs to be done because they're super huge.

Anyway! Good news! Despite the fact it was kind of rainy today Mum, Dad and I were still able to go to Cockington Green, and although Mum decided not to go in with us Dad and I had a great time in there! I haven't been there since I was like 3 or 4 years old and since that time they've added a whole new section of International minature models of things like Manchu Pichu and Petra. I got quite a few photos as did Dad although he needs to send those to me.

After Cockington Green we continued onwards to Aunt Chris and Uncle Lawrie's place where they were taking care of a number of their grandkids (and step-grandkids), but they have a big house so it wasn't too crowded or anything. We had lunch which was a BBQ, which was very delicious although I was sad to see that the salad contained no iceberg lettuce! It seems when Auntie Chris bought some pre-cut lettuce at the supermarket it didn't include it - uncool lettuce people, uncool.

Then it was on the road to Sydney once more, and it looked like the rain was going to follow us, but fortunately it let up and once we got into Sydney the traffic wasn't too awful except for a brief bit on the M5 - which I think is known as the shittiest road in the city.

Anyway, I best wrap this up since like I said my mouse is being an ass.

Hopefully I'll have more details for you tomorrow.

Goodnight all!

11:03pm: It's also the place of my birth and somewhere I haven't been for...cripes like 10 years now.

Anyway! I'm updating from the hotel I'm staying at with my parents and watching Flying High!/Airplane! on the TV here while taking advantage of the hotel's wi-fi.

So we drove down after I finished work and went to the Australian War Memorial, which I don't think I've ever visited before. The Memorial also has a museum, but we got there at about 4pm so we didn't get a chance to see all of it. Still the World War I part that we saw was very interesting, I can't believe they have so many artifacts from back then.

We also attended a Last Post ceremony which they apparently do every afternoon at 5pm, it was interesting! They told a story about one of the many soldiers remembered at the Memorial and some flowers were laid, there was even a bag-piper!

After that we went to the hotel where Mum and I had a swim while Dad figured out the TV in here before they headed down to the restaurant for dinner. I came down to get some pizza, which sadly didn't taste too good - I think it was the cheese, it was pretty bland. But it did come with some very yummy chips.

Anywho, Mum and Dad have gone to sleep and since I'm in the same room I should as well - especially since I have no idea when they'll wake up and I want to get my necessary zzzs!

My new phone continues to be awesome, although I can't work out why when I plug in my headphones they don't work...I hope I don't have a bad earphone jack because it'd be super annoying to have to return it.

On a final note, it was hot as Hell today, although it's meant to be quite cool now although I don't feel it...hopefully not too cool tomorrow because I forgot to pack a cardigan...whoops.

Right, must be off! Goodnight all!

I Got Game!

Dec. 3rd, 2016 11:36 pm
anonymoose_au: (It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time)
11:18pm: Yes indeed! This evening I went over to Uncle Sam, Aunt Jo and Cousin Mack's with my Simpsons DVDs and ready to play Scrabble!

As it happened we didn't end up playing Scrabble because Mack had a friend over for the night, so we had to play a game that was more of interest to them, which turned out to be a game that I can no longer remember the name of...Oh dear. It's like an Aussie version of Monopoly where you're a sheep farmer and them aim of the game is to get five irrigated paddocks full of sheep. Unfortunately, it didn't go all that well for me, I ended up with no sheep at all! Like Monopoly it took a lot of time to play. Mack and his friend played as a team and we almost declared the game done because it looked like they were going to win, but Mack's friend wanted the satisfaction of actually winning, so we continued...for a lot longer, because they kept missing out on the right spot (you could only buy or sell sheep when you landed on a square called "Stock Sale") and Aunt Jo almost stole the win! But alas she kept getting taxed...just like real life, LOL.

Meanwhile, Uncle Sam kept missing turns because it kept landing on "Go to town" - which I guess is the "Jail" equivalent. As for me...like I said not very good luck I kept going into drought or not able to buy any sheep and losing my sheep etc. etc.

Anyway, I'll have to go back some other time for the Scrabble!

On my way home I popped into this amazingly decorated house near Jo, Sam and Mack's place. I went to the same house last year with my parental's actually, but even with some of the same decorations it was still a sight to be seen. I took video which I haven't uploaded yet, but when I do I'll let you all have a look-see.

And I'm feeling quite sleepy so I'll wrap this up here...may I get around to Memes, some day!

11:44pm: Yes indeed! It was a close thing! So close in fact that if I hadn't picked up 100 extra points for cutting nearly the correct number of cards (each player gets 15 cards each at the beginning) M and I would have had to play another hand. And then I wouldn't have got home in time to watch Letters & Numbers which would have been a shame.

So, go me! :OD

In less fabulous news I'm just about to lay down to sleep (unsurprisingly) and I seem to be having heartburn, um ow, and very inconvenient, especially since I don't think I have any antacids in my house anymore. Maybe I shouldn't have had sausage for dinner, especially after the big lunch I had at M and Grandpa's. Grandpa cooked fish, chips and celery in white sauce, very delicious. And there was ice cream, blueberries and that choctop sauce for dessert. Although I suppose that wouldn't directly impact on me getting heartburn right now.

Anywho, what else to report? Oh! I got onto my friend, turns out she is here in Aus so I've arranged to go over to her house tomorrow after work for some friend time, yay! :OD As I've mentioned before I've really been falling down on the seeing friends thing, so this is great.

Right, I better be off now, sorry about the rushed entry, but you know how it is with my mad-cap life. :OP

11:48pm: So I was going to make some cupcakes tonight just because and even went down to the 7-11 on the corner to get milk, but unfortunately for me there was a problem. My eggs were off! I tested them by putting them in water and the bobbed to the top. Suffice to say, I wasn't going to risk using them! Unfortunately, I'd all ready creamed the caster sugar and butter, so I had to cover the mixing bowl and put it in the fridge. I sure hope it'll be OK for tomorrow...because otherwise, what a huge waste!

In other news, I went ice skating today after work and what fun! It wasn't nearly as busy as last Saturday and I was able to try going backwards a bit more, it seems I need to turn my head the opposite way to my instinct, which is weird, I feel like I should look over my right shoulder, but when I do I end up turning my whole body around! Still, I can't see myself ever being able to master that...Still much fun was had.

What else to report? Oh! I got my official name badge from the Mona Vale Library today! I've never had a name tag before, this is quite cool. One gentleman even made use of it, checking the name so he could use it to thank me for helping, LOL.

I also renewed a few of my library books...including one I hadn't even started yet, which was on hold, whoops so I endeavoured to power read it, and I was making pretty good progress until I realised...I wasn't actually all that interested in finding out what happened. :OP So instead I just read the end, confirmed my suspicious and I shall return it when I'm at work tomorrow. Hope the person who had it on hold enjoys it more than I did!

Also, because of the reading I have no time to do any memes! Booo. But there's not much that can be done about that now...so instead I shall be off!

Hope to have more tomorrow though.

Goodnight all!

11:45pm: Yes, now that I've got the net at my Granny Flat I don't need to haul my laptop when I go to my parents' place, which I'm currently at.

It took quite a while to get it going because I needed to update all the out of date apps on it, but as you can see I got it going eventually.

Anyway! I'm at the parentals because I helped them out at church this evening and they also had a small present for me that they picked up in Canberra, it's this super cool glasses cleaning cloth with a photo of a golden llama that was found in Peru! I'll be showing it to Mrs S tomorrow,I'm sure she'll be intrigued, Mum even printed off a page of info on it, how nice!

Dad also wanted to show off his new mobile phone to me, the one he had was a built old and he couldn't install any apps on it, so on my advice he looked for the cheapest unlocked handset he could get and bought it. It's an LG and very spiffy! I'm slightly jealous to be honest. :OP Oh well, my phone still works so...

Moving on, I'm still wondering about getting a proper fish tank, but I dunno...Mum doesn' feel it's necessary for Bet ta fish, but I think five deceased fish says otherwise. Perhaps I'll ask mrs S what she thinks.

Well, crap it's after midnight so I need to get my butt to bed quick smart! Sleep is needed!

Goodnight all!
