10:09pm: Well...not quite, but I figured... what the Hell ;O)

Anywho, I still have to wrap presents for my niece and nephews so I'll have to make this quick!

From not much to report, lots of stuff has been going on as the end of the year approached (sorry for the delay in getting back to you, Vic!), especially as the big bro and family have arrived, hence the need to wrap the present.

Archery continues to go awesomely - although after my last update, there was a change in the handicap rules, namely you need to have a handicap before you compete in one! Which makes sense, I didn't have one, so I think it applied the highest handicap which is how I won! As evidenced by the competition I was just in on Sunday, where everyone contributed $2 and the winners shared the pot. The winners incidentally included me as the lucky loser, which was a bit awkward because the other two people on the last target were little kids. XD I wonder if the rules will change again now!

My mother, niece and I also got up to the Blue Mountains for a couple of nights - we had planned to do it last year, but because of my oldest nephew's fever, they had to postpone leaving for a day so we had to cancel it. But yes, this time we did it and a mostly great time was had be all! Although my niece didn't have a good a time ice skating as I hoped she would. She had taken figure skating lessons, but last year and was most put off by the fact she couldn't remember it all :O( She did end up picking up most of it again, but yeah she didn't enjoy the lesson we had even though the coach was a really nice older lady.

I haven't seen as much of my nephews, but the littlest one - who's only three (I think?) has a lot more words this year which is nice, although he sure likes to run, the little bro, big bro and I took him and my niece to the nearby kids park yesterday, unfortunately while someone was holding open the gate to let their own kid out, the nephew bolted and ended up running across the parking lot! O.o I wasn't fast enough to catch him! Fortunately, the Big Bro (aka his father) was able to catch him before he ended up running onto the beach. I mean daaang.

But I will be seeing them all tomorrow and I definitely need to go and wrap these presents!

So on that note I shall be off and a Merry Christmas to you all!

Bullseye!

Nov. 25th, 2024 08:32 pm
anonymoose_au: (Arthur- Awesome)
7:42pm: So it's been a while since I've updated, because life has been slow, however I do have some very cool news to report.

Yesterday I was part of an archery round that had handicaps, there were different distances people could shoot and a handicap would be added to an archer's overall score to even everything out. Or at least that's what I assume they did. Being a newbie, I of course opted for the shortest distance because the day before I was on a target that started at 30m away and boy did I ever suck at it XD.

However! I had much better luck with 20m, 15m and 10m, even when the target faces got smaller - in fact I seemed to shoot better the smaller the target (we started with a 122cm one for 20 and 15m, then an 80cm one for the 10m and hen a 40cm). Go me!

Still, I definitely did not expect that at the end of the round I would be declared the overall winner!! :OD The prize I got was this golf umbrella with a target printed on it. It's really cool! I saw someone with one last week and wondered where the person got it and was told that it was a prize, so I figured if I wanted one I'd have to fork over actual money. Not so!

How neat is that? I'm quite proud of myself, obviously a 10m target is pretty dang close - I think that might be the distance people shoot darts at - but considering the first time I tried shooting a bow at Year Six I actually shot the bow instead of the arrow this is a huge improvement!

Although I do need an arm guard after all, not sure what's changed, but the string hit the inside of my elbow a couple of times before I borrowed one and there's a bruise there now. I got a second hand one at onsite shop which will hopefully work, otherwise I'll have to drop some dough to get a new one.

I also need to get some sun sleeves, because the weather is warming up and wearing a long sleeve shirt leads to a lot of sweating. Sun sleeves just cover your arms to prevent sunburn, although they only seem to be available online, so I guess I'll have to purchase them that way.

So yeah, that's my exciting news :OP Otherwise life continues as normal, although I need to make a start on my Christmas cards, they're mostly going to overseas people on the figure skating forum I'm a member of so I need to send them sooner rather than later, otherwise they won't arrive in time. But then I'm also playing Sims 4 a lot, they're got another sale going on so I'm thinking of getting a few more expansions - I probably shouldn't be encouraging EA, but it's fun! Sometimes the game does act a bit weird, but nothing too game breaking - fingers crossed!

On that note though I shall wrap this up so I can get to work on some of that stuff, but I shall do

The Friday Five

22/11/24

These questions were written by allude on LJ.

1. What is your favorite childhood memory? My family's three month trip around the world when I was nine almost ten. It was seriously awesome! We went to both Disneyland and Euro-Disney, went to school in England for a bit, travelled all around Wales, England and Scotland and on the way back we stopped for New Year's Eve in Hong Kong. So many memories...

2. If you could be reincarnated as anything besides human, who would you want to be? I always wanted to be a dolphin! I'd have to steer clear of nets and killer whales though!

3. If you had to start your life all over, what are three things you would change? Hmm...that's a hard one, I guess first I'd get rid of the IBS because screw that, nix the anxiety issues as well and...that's all that comes to mind, I don't want to change too much, otherwise I might end up not being me!

4. If you had to forget everything in your life, except one thing, what would it be? Geeze...that sounds terrible! I guess...does my family count as one thing? It better because that's what I'd want to remember.

5. Do you have a lucky charm? Nah, not really. I do have a little Chef Pusheen stuffie that I wear on my backpack that I wear to work, so maybe that? Or my Pusheen wristlet where I keep my bus pass.

Righto, ta ta for now!

10:41pm:Because I'm not sure about mine. On Friday I had a terrible sore throat and body aches, which continued into Saturday and a bit on Sunday so I didn't do any archery, which was rather a bummer. However, I did go this afternoon, which was exciting because my archery bag and the chest guard had come in! Both a lovely green! I also bought a little stand thing for my bow, it matches my finger thing (I can't remember it's actual name LOL), so I'm gonna be the most fashion forward archer out there LOL.

But yeah anyway, since coming home from the archery I've been coughing, which hopefully is just a conincidence, because I swear I just had a cold two months ago (did I already mention this? I can't keep track of my entries these days LOL), so I'm a bit worried I might have one again, which would suck.

All the same I'm glad I went to archery, I'm doing much better with my aim - I did record my score, but I haven't I actually added it up so I'm not sure how well I did, but better than last time.

I fear this will be a short entry because not only is it past 11pm, I also did my laundry and need to hang it all up before I go to bed.

There's not much else to report - except world events that shall not be named... Looks like watching news is off the table for some time.

And tomorrow is November 12th! The temporal junction point of the entire spacetime continuum! An important day for all Backies although I haven't actually written anymore McFly July fics, I should see if I can get inspired...

Right, as I said the laundry is waiting too be hung up so I'll be off now.

10:27pm: Sorry for the lack of updates lately, but fear not you haven't missed anything exciting from me :OP Same old same old really, aside from the Time and Motion thing we've been doing at work. As I think of mentioned it's proving to be a bit of an ass because I don't really work in that manner, so it does stress me out a bit.

Meanwhile my house remains an utter mess, I really gotta do something about that especially because in November there's gonna be an inspection because the Strata Committee has hired some company to look for any defects. Since I'm not on the committee I have no idea if this is because people are having issues or because the apartment building is over 5 years old now. The builders are on the hook for most things for a five year period once the building is finish, but that would have been earlier this year (I moved in as soon as the place was finished in 2019), but who knows. So yeah, definitely got to have the place looking like a proper human lives here, LOL. Although, there's the winter garden to consider...I've got quite a bit of stuff out there as well. Dang.

In other news I've been wanting to catch up on those Friday Fives, although I'm not entirely sure which was the last one I did so I must have left off updating for longer than I thought LOL... but I think I've figured it out now so let's get to it!

Friday 5

13/9/24

These questions were written by Dreamwidth user zenigotchas.

1. What's the strangest, unexplainable incident you have experienced or have heard of? Does the Orange Thing getting elected President of the USA count? Because that's some crazy shit right there. In all seriousness, I don't think I've ever experience anything truly inexplicable personally. Some stuff you read about the Bermuda Triangle is pretty out there though, like that squadron of planes that disappeared, where did they go? Spooky.

2. Which mythical creatures or cryptids do you think are most likely to exist or have existed? Hmm... maybe the Yeti or Big Foot? They could be the missing link between humans and the great apes. There's probably not any of them around anymore though.

3. If you became a mythical figure how do you think you'd be portrayed? Umm...hmm...the Messy One, all hail chaos :OP

4. What animal do others find creepy that you find cute? I think octopuses are pretty cute...although that's mostly cartoon ones XD Although after our office at work was rearranged there were these photos from a competition that we could hang up and I was voted down in my choice of a underwater photograph of a striped octopus which I thought was pretty cute, but my office colleagues did not care for at all!

5. What is your favorite lost civilization? Can't go past Atlantis! I really enjoyed that Indiana Jones game about it that Lucas Arts released back in the 90s.

26/9/24

1. Most everyone will recommend a book or two to read, but are there any you would tell people to avoid? Well certainly not anything "written" by the Orange one. All kidding aside, I probably wouldn't recommend Twilight or 50 Shades, because they objectively suck.

2. If you take a book on vacation, are you more likely to take something you haven't read yet or an old favorite? Probably something I haven't read yet, although these days I read rather slowly so it might take me longer than the trip to finish it!

3. Do you read any genres by the season? Like horror around Halloween? Cozy Mysteries in the Winter? Romance in the Summer? Nah, although that kind of sounds like a fun idea...

4. If you read a lot of Fiction do you prefer an author that has a series with the same character(s), or do you prefer stand-alone stories? Definitely, the first one, I like to get to know a character and see how they develop over a period of time in stories. :O)

5. Is there a book that you wish you could read again, but experience it like it was the first time? Hmm...that's a toughie...I feel like there's so many books like that for me! Maybe the first Agatha Christie book, because that was such a hard puzzle that I couldn't figure out and then it all came together so awesomely!

Right, so time is getting on and I've got archery tomorrow (I've decided to join the club and even purchase my own bow and arrows) and then I'm picking up Grandpa and driving over to my parents place for lunch, so I should make sure I get enough zzzs.

Oh and it's too late in California, but Happy First Travelling Through Time Day to all my fellow Backies! :OD I should try and get another McFly July prompt up before 5:04pm tomorrow. We'll see how it goes!

Goodnight all!

11:53pm: As is evidenced by the time here, 7 minutes to midnight and I have to get my ass to bed ASAP!

I just wanted to mention my archery lesson today, because it was the last week of the Kidbow/Adbow thing we had competition. We shot 90 arrows in all at various sized targets from 10m, ironically I think I did better with the smaller targets than the larger ones :OP Although in all honesty I did pretty shit all together, LOL. I came 4th out of 4 adults and let it be know that there was quiiiiite a gap between me and the bronze winner.

I also didn't get a chance to test out the bow that they ordered in, so I wonder if I can show up next week or if I have to become a member first. I guess joining would be fine, I've been enjoying myself after all and it gets me out of the house :OP

In the meantime I'm reminded of the school colleague who offered me some of her father's old archery equipment. Although as previously mentioned unless he's really short I'm not sure his equipment will be of any use to me LOL. Still it would save me quite a bit, a bow can cost like $300!

OK, it's almost midnight now, so Moose out!

11:42pm: Which is why I didn't bother updating yesterday, and I don't really have much to report about today either.

I did go to church as Mum and Dad need me to do the Powerpoint, but aside from that I lay around all day and felt bummed because I won't be able to go to archery tomorrow. :O( Apart from anything else, I think it's raining, and as previously discussed, even without the cold I'm not sure how I'd do archery in the rain.

It was a good thing I went to church though because it meant that I finally got my package of Pusheen clothes! They're adorable! Although I have a slight problem with the dress, which looks fabulous, except the way it's cut kind of means I can't wear a bra or at least not the usual kind of bra I'd wear, maybe a strapless one would work? I kinda need to wear a bra because I'm not lacking in the boob department. I also might need to have it altered a bit, because the armholes gap a bit. The top fits great though! And I can't wait to do stuff with the scarf :O) I kinda wish I bought other stuff, since everything was half price, but I don't think there was much more I could have purchased. The swim suit was sadly a bikini, which I don't wear because of ample boobage. There was a skirt though...

Anywho, it's getting late and even though I'm not going to archery, considering the fact I'm unwell I should get all the sleep I can, especially since I need to clean my apartment tomorrow because Mum will drop by on Monday to drop off my serve of the roast dinner she, Dad and my little bro are having tomorrow. Hopefully, I'll be able to go to work on Monday, my sore throat has at least subsided, although now I have a cough, which sucks.

On that note though, I shall be off, send me healthy thoughts!

10:32pm: So today was my first Kidbow Adbow class at the archery range! Unfortunately, yesterday there was a hazard reduction burn that got out of control and as a result there's smoke around and having spent two hours outside my eyeballs are now dry and rather sore. I ended up with a headache and as often occurs with me I kinda forgot to take anything for it for like two hours. But I finally got around with it and I'm good now.

Anyway, the archery went well...until the end where we had a game which was quite fun except that when my team ended up on the 25m target and even though we were closer to it than that, I missed the target soooo many times (although I've since realised it was probably because I didn't adjust the sight on the bow to compensate for the change in length from the target.

However! I did succeed in qualifying on the 15m target, which means next week I can go to do the 20 metre one, hooray!

That reminds me, I've totally forgotten to update Facebook on my progress, whoops...I think I mentioned that an old school friend of mine said they could see if their father (who was an Olympic archer) had any old equipment I could use. Which would be quite a saving, although I did find out last week that I need a rather short riser (that's the part of the bow you hold and place the arrow on) because I'm a shortie, so unless her father is also quite short, I'm not sure his equipment would work for me. Also how would I get it?

Right, it's 11pm now so I better haul butt and get a decent amount of sleep, which also might be why my eyes are dry.

Goodnight!

11:08pm: I was going so well too! Although I did have to work today, which meant when I realised how late it was getting last night in between watching the Junior Figure Skating GP and playing Sims 4 I just shut my laptop screen and headed for bed.

Yesterday was most busy at work actually, there were boxes, Inter Library Loans, invoice checking and a desk shift! I had to catch up on the invoices at work today, which I'm not really supposed to do, but it wasn't super busy so I think I got away with it.

Apart from that, not much else to report, I also have to head to bed soon tonight because it's archery tomorrow! I'm really looking forward to it! I hope I can get into the Adbow Kidbow class, I should otherwise I don't think the coach would have mentioned it last week.

Finally, regarding the previous entry and Lady Bigwallet's lip mole, I did end up giving her one, but on the left side rather than the right to indicate it's a parallel universe, LOL, which I thought was pretty smart :OP I wonder if I should post about it on Tumblr or something? Am I allowed to do that, do I have to ask permission first? And if I do would I even be brave enough to do so?

Also to add to the previous entry, the unpicking of my cross-stitch was successful and I'm redoing the beach umbrella in red and white so it doesn't blend in so much with the sky and ocean (not that I've figured out entirely what blues to use with the ocean...)

Right, the ice dancing competition is getting ready to go into the ice resurfacing which takes like 15 minutes, so I'm not gonna see who wins, boo :OP

Also no Friday Five! Ah well...wish me luck tomorrow and hopefully I'll remember to update about it! (I forgot to tell Facebook about last week, guess I"ll have to do two in a row).

ANd now I say goodnight!

8:00pm: The last part has rather put a dampener on the end of the weekend, especially seeing as it's also accompanied by stomach pain - although that at least seems to have eased up, although my digestive system decided to freak out on me like an hour ago which sucked a lot. I'm also super tired... I don't think I've been getting enough sleep seeing as I got up early yesterday morning as well as today for archery.

Actually, my digestive system was being most impolite this morning and I was a bit worried, fortunately, it calmed down so I was able to get to the class and shoot the arrows. I'm happy to report I am indeed getting better and actually hitting the target, but I haven't the best aim still. On the plus side it did mean that I was first out in the end of class shoot off which meant I was able to get to church. It was quite packed since as I mentioned it was the only mass for that weekend.

After mass - and some speeches about how the church got its start 50 years ago, there was the anniversary lumch, fortunately my stomach problems had gone dormant at that time so I was able to enjoy that, there was a buffet with quite a lot of options, I ended up with chicken wrap and a party pie and party sized sausage roll (which happened to be have been brought by Mum XD) and then a chocolate muffin, a mini cupcake with chocolate icing and a scone. Which I'm hoping isn't want brought on the digestive freak out later on. But who even knows?

Dad didn't go to the lunch so I had to drive Mum back to the retirement village before I came back here and finished reading the book that's been requested as an Inter Library Loan. As it turned out I couldn't actually finish it at work because it's actually super sad and I didn't want to start crying at work. So instead I read it this afternoon and cried here, which I guess could explain the headache, because crying sucks.

I wonder if I should take some Buscopan, hmmm...

Anyway, I was planning on replying to Vic's messages, but yeah, not feeling up to it right now, but do not fear I haven't forgotten!

On that note though, I'm out, I sure hope I feel better tomorrow after a good night's sleep.

11:02pm: And dang it, if I'm not improving the last bit there because it's 11pm and I'm just updating this!

Anyway, the good news is the first part of the subject title here is true too! My apartment was clean enough to pass muster with the parental units! Although, maybe they were just being polite, LOL. But hey I also went and bought the pizza and provided mini-Magnum ice creams for dessert. :O)

So yes, a good time was had by all, and the little bro came through getting Mum a present and a card - which totally slipped my mind, so that was well done by him, since Mum only mentioned recently that she enjoys getting a card at least.

OK, so this entry is looking pretty short, but an interesting thing happened today in the Inter Library Loans, a library requested a book that was out on loan to someone and I was about to mark the request as non-supply when I realised...the person who had the book on loan was me! XD So I said I'd supply it and figured I'd just borrow it when it comes back, buuut, it's a short book or at least shorter than the other books I have have on my to read pile, so I'm reading it in the hope I can finish it.

However, I do have to do my Duolingo, and as mentioned it's after 11pm so I should have my butt in bed and I'm not quite halfway through it, ah well, I could maybe just wait for Monday, it's not like the requesting library would know :OP

Anyway, on that note I better head off, although they're at the pointy end of the Mixed Recurve Open at the Paralympics, but I don't think the gold medal match will happen before midnight, I guess I'll have to catch up on that tomorrow. We did have an Aussie team in the competition actually, but we got knocked out in 1/8 round, rather disappointingly since we were in a good position!

I've also just realised that the this week's Junior GP in Figure Skating is probably on, ah well, you can't watch everything.

So on that note, I'm off!

11:10pm: Which actually isn't all that good...because Mum and Dad will be over tomorrow night for dinner and it has to be in rather better shape... I'm hoping that giving it a vacuum tomorrow will make it look much better. On the upside, the kitchen should at least be clear, I know that's Mum's particular complaint, how can she clean the counter if there's stuff on it.

My winter garden isn't looking the best I have to admit...but I don't think there's much I can do with it, although at least I'll be able to take the clothes horse down tomorrow since I washed my winter sheets and they're drying on it at the moment.

What else to report? Well, I'm watching the archery at the Paralympics which is proving to be great fun to watch, although sometimes it's hard to tell what disability the competitor has, considering the long pants it's probably leg related.

Anyway, as is common during the week, this is a short entry, but I don't have much to report work-wise, although our library supplier did deliver the boxes today - usually they come on Tuesdays, not sure what the delay was, but it did give us an opportunity to finish off Friday's delivery which is always good.

The Inter Library Loan Courier didn't show up during the day though, I assume he must have come by after I left at 5pm, at least I hope so! I'm not sure what happens if for some reason the courier can't make it to all the libraries in his run due to traffic. I guess we'd probably go without a delivery for the week, which would suck, so here's hoping the box is there tomorrow morning!

On that note though better wrap this up, I have to get to bed so I'm well rested for tomorrow!

Wish me luck for tomorrow! Goodnight!

11:41pm: Especially when you're watching a replay of the para-archery.

It's like 19 minutes to midnight and I really don't have time to actually type anything up! Not that I've got much to report, except I went to the gym this evening after work and also rather unfortunately haven't done shit regarding the cleaning of the apartment. I always do this, and I'm gonna be in big trouble if it's not ready for the parentals and the little bro on Thursday. I don't know how I keep getting myself in these situations well actually I do, I was reading a book which I did finish at least, but in retrospect probably not the best idea.

I'm trying to keep in the habit of updating, which is the only reason I'm writing this entry... sorry about that :OP

But yeah, the archery continues to be fascinating, especially since there's a number of competitors who don't have arms and therefore fire the bow with their feet! It's pretty impressive, especially when they're shooting bullseyes like bosses.

But yes, I can't really afford to go on because I need to get my butt to bed, hopefully I'll be able to update more fully tomorrow.

11:25pm: I was planning on getting a McFly July (August...er September) drabble up today, but I left it a little too late to start writing it and now it's coming up on 11:30 and I have to get myself to bed very shortly. I blame this rather large biography on JFK (yeah, I don't know why either XD) which I'm only reading when I'm at home because the book's too dang big to carry around, LOL. So I was reading that when I should have been writing.

So yeah whoops.

Not whoops though, is today was my second archery lesson and I'm very excited to report that the eye patch did its job marvellously! Last week I was missing the entire target a third or even more of the time. Today it was way, way less. Woohoo! Although, I'm still the most unco-ordinated archer of the group, but as the lady coaching the "Come and Try" session a few weeks back said, it's not how you go against the others, it's how you go against yourself. And yeah compared to last week, Moose is kicking ass and taking names.

After archery, I went to Mum and Dad's house for Father's Day, where we were later joined by my little bro and Grandpa for lunch. It was steak, potato salad made by my little bro and regular salad made by Dad - although I added carrot to it and it was most delicious indeed. There was even desert - Dad bough ice cream :OD.

Oh and I finished the Father's Day card, so go me. :OP

It was a bit of an interesting meal because the little bro asked how Grandpa was getting along, and Grandpa gave a very explanation of what he's up to regarding the paying of fees to the retirement village he lives at. It's quite a involved thing and he and a group of people at the retirement village are taking the owners to a tribunal because they're pretty sure they've been paying fees that they should have had to.

He got rather passionate about it, which nonpulussed Dad since he's not one for passionate discussions at the dinner table. But we mostly had fun. :O)

Once I got home I was supposed to do more tidying of my house, but instead I pottered around then watched Paralympic archery and now I'm watching the Boulder and Lead Final in Sports Climbing, although as said I have to head off to bed so I'll be turning that off soon. Which is a shame, because it's rather interesting!

But work calls tomorrow, so sleep does too.

I hope to have the drabble up tomorrow though, but don't hold me to that :OP

10:17pm: For archery tomorrow. I wasn't going to, because the internet seemed to be of the opinion that top archers don't shut one eye when shooting, but firstly I ain't a top archer and secondly, the para-archers who are currently competing close one eye though. Not sure how to account for the difference... they are using compound bows so I guess that might make a difference, but whatever. I did have a bit of scare when I could locate said eyepatch after trying it out, turns out it had fallen into my shopping bag. I really do need to clean up my house, especially since Mum, Dad and (possibly) the little bro are coming over on Thursday to celebrate Mum's birthday. It's actually the day before, but she's already got plans. So yeah, gotta fix that.

I also have to make a card for Dad for Father's Day, which means I gotta wrap this entry up quickly because I won't have time to make it tomorrow and it's not like I can stay up until stupid o'clock, archery starts at 9am tomorrow.

Also my digestive system has been somewhat annoyed today, I've taken some Buscopan for it, but I'm thinking a good night's sleep will be helpful for it.

Also I think I may have sat down too much today catching up on figure skating because my knee is deciding to be a butt again. Very rude.

Before I head off though...

Friday Five

9/11/23

1. What is on your bucket list that you want to do in the next ten years? Visit my big bro and his family in Japan, although that's locked in for next year, I've already paid a deposit and stuff for a tour my mother and I will be doing over there. So I should probably have another bucket list item...um...visit the US and the BTTF filming sites.

2. What bucket list items have you completed and enjoyed? I haven't really thought about a bucket list prior to that first question there, so I'm not really sure, LOL. Maybe get decent at archery?

3. What bucket list items did you accomplish but they weren't as great as you hoped or expected? See above. I'm trying to think of something now, LOL... Ummm... I got nothing.

4. What short term goal(s) are you currently working on? Cleaning up my apartment and keeping it tidy.

5. What middle term goal(s) do you have, and are you working on them? Get better at archery - I'm currently doing Beginner Classes which I have three more to do. Not sure what'll happen after that, I might have to redo the course depending on how I go.

Right, it's getting towards 11pm, and like I said I've got to do that card, wish me luck!

11:00pm: Eek, I'm gonna have to make this quick, but today was the first lesson of the four week Beginner's Archery Course. Our coach was a nice older chap this time around and we were on the opposite side of the field and the three targets seemed very close to each other, long story short though, without been able to close my non-dominant eye, aiming is quite the crapshoot. I managed to get two out of three arrows in the target, but one would always miss! I tried to squint my left eye, but it was rather difficult and judging by how wide some of the arrows went I obviously focused with the wrong eye. The coach mentioned that he actually used an eyepatch himself, so I guess that's what I need to do. I was planning to go buy one this afternoon, but I left my run to the shops a bit late and the pharmacy was closed when I got there. Ah well, there's always tomorrow. I'm hoping that this will help out because when I DID manage to aim with the right eye as I said I hit the target, I even got one in the yellow zone! :OD

I did take photos of my arrows - including one where the coach moved my arrows into the bullseye XD if only! But yeah there's three more lessons to go, so I'm hopeful! We also got a little guide to archery thing, so yay! I wonder if I should take my old schoolmate's offer of getting me some of her father's equipment. It would sure save me money, although with my supershort arms the arrows will probably be way too long LOL, and the bow would be too big probably (unless the father is rather short). But it never hurts to ask I guess. I'll look into that.

Now, I better be off, because my eyes have been a bit weird since the middle of the day, really tired, I even took a nap in the afternoon although it didn't really work. So yeah, gotta get those zzzs.

I got a McFly July prompt done though, so overall a successful day!

Ta ta for now!

10:04pm: I'm working on a McFly July prompt (which I'm sure you're all exciting to hear :OP) but alas, I won't be finishing it tonight because I need to get my butt to bed because tomorrow is my first lesson of the Beginner's Archery Course, I think I need to be there at about 8:30am, so I have to go to bed.

I was hoping to catch some of La Vuelta (aka the big Spanish cycling race), but it's not on until later, which is a shame, because while watching it last night I heard the team name I have long missed... Escatel Escaudi!! I read late last year that the team was coming back, but alas there was no sign of them at Le Tour de France, so I figured it wasn't happening. But, here they are! They were/are a Spanish team, so I'm not sure if they're only going to show up in Spanish tours, but it's awesome to hear the name again. Although sadly it's not by Phil Ligget, bummer that.

I had work today, only a half day which is good, I was a bit late though, which was not so great, what with talk about how we need to work the opening shift, but my colleagues were cool about it... having said that I was literally like 1 minute late. So I really don't need to stress :OP

So work went rather well, except I ended up having a headache towards the end of it and I wanted to buy some new black work socks (my other ones are starting to get holes in them) so rather than head directly home I went shopping. I was thinking I might get them from David Jones or Myer, which are the more expensive places, but I ended up at old reliable K-Mart, where I considered buying some new casual black pants, but not only was the queue to the registers super long, the pants all seem to be for giants or something, and I didn't really want to spend money getting the hems taken up. Also they didn't have the socks I was looking for. So then I went to Big W rather than run for the bus where I found pants that weren't too long and the socks, so hooray! Although by the time I got home the headache was rather painful, and there was only an hour and a half before church.

Lucky for me, the ibprofuen I took kicked in by the time church started, although I felt ridiculously tired and I swear I almost nodded off for a second, LOL.

Anyway, it's nearly half-past now, so I shall be off. Wish me luck tomorrow!

11:08pm: Oops, I've been watching James Turner Cities Skylines Let's Plays and it's waaay later than I thought! But yes, today was Archery Day!

I actually ended up being early because I thought I need to get there at 8:30am, but actually it was 8:45, I should aim for that next time so I won't be late.

And I'm planning on going again, I've signed up for the four week Beginner's course which starts next Sunday, I'm very much looking forward to it! I had a lot of fun, well except for the time I hit my boob with the bow string...but I got a chest guard so it was all good. Although, by the end I was also hitting my left arm with the bow string, so I might need an arm guard too? Also, as suspected I'm right eye dominant, which wouldn't be an issue except...I can only close my right eye, I can't independently close my left eye only squint, which made it super hard to look through the little sight thing on the bow. I'm considering getting an eye patch or something XD Then again, there's also a school of thought where you should keep both eyes open, so I dunno, I guess I'll ask the coach next Sunday.

Regarding the subject heading...well, I did get two arrows in the yellow zone! But yeeeeah... there were 12 people in total in the class, so we were in three teams of four, needlessly to say our team (I was with a Dad and his two kids) did not do well in the fun competition at the end. Also, there's now a photo of me on Facebook looking decidedly weird. I have no idea why I'm standing the way I am in it... On the plus side I'm wearing sunglasses so you can't really tell it's me :OP There's also a photo of the whole group where I don't look weird so, yay!

After that excitement, I lazed around the rest of the day until it was time to go to church with Mum and Dad... however, every school term the primary school kids do the Saturday evening Mass. Now, the lady who arranges it, is supposed to tell Mum it's happening, but she forgot... so we show up, the parentals have gone to some trouble putting together the Powerpoint for this week's hymns and discover school kids setting up! Dad was most annoyed, because yeah he works hard picking out the hymns! I figured I'd just go to the vigil mass at the other church, but Mum convinced me to come with her and Dad to the church she and I went to on Wednesday night. It did mean I got some marinated chicken legs from her for dinner, yummy!

Funnily enough it turned out that even though it was a completely different church, I still did my PowerPoint duty because there was a late request for someone who could help since there wasn't someone to do it. The other church also had primary school kids doing the singing, but they were quite good (no offence to the ones at my usual church - these kids are a choir so I think they've been practicing a lot).

So yeah, it turned out to be a rather interesting experience, although the set up of the computer in the other church is weird...the computer faces away from the altar so I needed to sit sideways.

I did have to catch the bus home because the parental house is between it and where I live, so they weren't going my way anyway. Fortunately, the bus service is good in that area so I got home in very good time.

Speaking of which...I haven't done my Duolingo and time is getting away from me so I better wrap this up.

Before I go though...

The Friday Five

16/8/24

These questions were written by Dreamwidth user spacefem.

1) Who are you appreciating in your life right now? Hmm...well I guess Mum, because she always helps me out and has good advice when I need it :O)

2) What's something you've done this year that other people appreciated? Umm...the Powerpoint at church I guess? The lady at the other church was certainly happy I volunteered to help this evening!

3) What's a good way to show gratitude? With a thank you and (depending on the relationship) a nice hug. :O) Maybe something chocolate related, LOL.

4) Do you write thank you notes? Nope, I will send thank you texts, if that counts ;O)

5) What can you use help with these days? Keeping my apartment clean, I cleaned it with Mum's help before heading off to Fiji at the end of last month and it's messy as Hell now. I really need to do something about it, I swear...

Right oh, for now, goodnight!

11:08pm: Usually going to bed at a decent hour wouldn't be necessary on a Friday, but tomorrow is the "Come and Try Archery" session, and I need to be there at 8:30, so yeah I better get my butt to bed.

I'm a bit worried that the weather might suck though, like what am I supposed to do if it's raining? Apparently, the class will still go ahead, but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to see if that's the case. If take my glasses off I probably won't be able to see the target! Where as if I keep them on...well I won't be able to see all that well either. I guess I need to take a cap just in case (I sure wish one of my Pusheen hats would reappear :O( )

Not much else to report, although I really need to be careful when I'm sitting on the couch on my laptop, my back is a bit sore, which is one I totally don't need. Also, do my exercises to strengthen that area!

Right now, though, my knee hurts, very annoying, I thought maybe that time o' the month was due, but according to my app it's still four days away, so...hopefully not.

So yes, I gotta run but here have a Friday Five

Friday Five

21/12/24

These questions were written by your moderator anais_pf, who has been posting questions in this space consistently for more than ten years, on a completely volunteer basis.

1. Are you easily offended or upset by things other people post online? Depends what it is...I have to say whenever JK Rowling posts stuff I find myself getting pissed, man has she gone off the rails. Also Donald Trump stuff riles me up and when it was happening COVID deniers really gave me the shits.

2. How much does the order in which the Friday Five questions are presented here matter to you? Nah, I'm cool with whatever order the question setter wants to do.

3. Have you ever made an effort to be inclusive, only to have someone complain that you were not being inclusive enough? I don't think so? Wipes brow in relief.

4. Are you having a happy holiday season? Well, it's not the holiday season now, but yes I did! My bro and his family came for their yearly visit and I spent lots of quality time with my niece and nephew. Good times.

5. Which holidays do you observe or celebrate? The Christian ones, mostly - Christmas, Easter and the popular ones New Year's Eve, ANZAC Day, Australia Day etc.

Right, better get going I have to put my anti-itch ointment on and brush my teeth.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow a lot and I'm hoping I'll have good news to report! As it turns out if I do decide to do the 4 week Beginner's Course I won't need to take a Saturday off, because they actually happen on Sundays, LOL.

Anywho, goodnight all!

10:58pm: It's the Men's Archery Final and it's nail biting stuff!! It's gone to the Arrow-Off! That's where the two competitors have one arrow to fire at the target and the closest to the Bullseye will win! And in the last set both guys got a perfect round. Edge of your seat business!

Speaking of archery, an old schoolmate of mine saw a post I made on Facebook about being interested in it and mentioned that her father used to do archery and even went to the Olympics -

Ahmahgawd, the Korean Kim won the Arrow-Off and got the Gold! I was kinda going for the US guy, but dang the South Koreans absolutely slay at Archery. The US guy took his defeat well, he does get a silver though, so that's cool - also he's 35 which is pretty old for an Olympian!

Anyway, back to the schoolmate, she recommended I should go to the Sydney Olympic Archery Range to check out the sport, while I'm too lazy to go all that way I was reminded about the archery club that meets nearby, a quick internet search showed that they practice or get together on Saturdays and Sundays. So I decided to drive on down to check it out.

Unfortunately for me, my digestive system decided that this would be a great time to play up and I had a sore stomach and was too nervous to actually outright ask any of the archers how to take a lesson or whatever. Somewhat concerning I couldn't actually see the arrows they shot. Although maybe that's normal and why the coaches at the Olympic have those monocular things, so they can tell what's going down. Also there's the fact that one time I tried archery back at Year 6 Camp I failed so bad...first of all I could barely pull the string back, secondly I ended up letting go of the bow instead of the arrow.

On the other hand, I could use more physical activity, so I wrote an email to the Archery club to inquire about their Come and Try sessions, they mention them on their website, but I couldn't see any for the second half of the year. So we'll see what they say.

My stomach decided to spend the rest of the day being a dick, so I have got no writing on the McFly July 2024 prompts whatsoever, very discouraging. Although, it wasn't the usual kind of stomach pain so rather than try my Buscopan I took some ibuprofen - I did have a headache as well - I'm finally feeling not so ick just in time for bed.

In other news, LJ continues to not work for me unless I use my VPN and set it to a different country. Very odd...I wonder what the explanation is? I was connected to a Russian VPN (it's for ice skating related purposes) and it worked, but right now I'm on a USA VPN and it works, so yeah... Total head scratcher.

Right, better wrap this up and head to bed, it's back to work tomorrow for the first time in a week, bring it on! (Although I've got to take a half day on Friday for my Psychiatrist appointment, better let them know about that).

Goodnight!
