10:09pm: Well...not quite, but I figured... what the Hell ;O)

Anywho, I still have to wrap presents for my niece and nephews so I'll have to make this quick!

From not much to report, lots of stuff has been going on as the end of the year approached (sorry for the delay in getting back to you, Vic!), especially as the big bro and family have arrived, hence the need to wrap the present.

Archery continues to go awesomely - although after my last update, there was a change in the handicap rules, namely you need to have a handicap before you compete in one! Which makes sense, I didn't have one, so I think it applied the highest handicap which is how I won! As evidenced by the competition I was just in on Sunday, where everyone contributed $2 and the winners shared the pot. The winners incidentally included me as the lucky loser, which was a bit awkward because the other two people on the last target were little kids. XD I wonder if the rules will change again now!

My mother, niece and I also got up to the Blue Mountains for a couple of nights - we had planned to do it last year, but because of my oldest nephew's fever, they had to postpone leaving for a day so we had to cancel it. But yes, this time we did it and a mostly great time was had be all! Although my niece didn't have a good a time ice skating as I hoped she would. She had taken figure skating lessons, but last year and was most put off by the fact she couldn't remember it all :O( She did end up picking up most of it again, but yeah she didn't enjoy the lesson we had even though the coach was a really nice older lady.

I haven't seen as much of my nephews, but the littlest one - who's only three (I think?) has a lot more words this year which is nice, although he sure likes to run, the little bro, big bro and I took him and my niece to the nearby kids park yesterday, unfortunately while someone was holding open the gate to let their own kid out, the nephew bolted and ended up running across the parking lot! O.o I wasn't fast enough to catch him! Fortunately, the Big Bro (aka his father) was able to catch him before he ended up running onto the beach. I mean daaang.

But I will be seeing them all tomorrow and I definitely need to go and wrap these presents!

So on that note I shall be off and a Merry Christmas to you all!

10:39pm: OK, I don't actually have a good subject heading for this post, my mother and I have just finished watching our shows, which means I should be getting ready for bed, but I figured I'd post a little update before heading off.

Not much to report, although apparently after a few days of been mostly warm, it's going to be cold and rainy tomorrow and into the weekend, which kinda sucks. I hope it isn't raining on Sunday for archery, as mentioned they apparently only cancel if there's lightning, but I can't really imagine been able to shoot a bow with any accuracy whatsoever with rain pouring on my glasses.

In other news, we've got training tomorrow morning, which sucks, firstly because, training is always a drag, often you get told shit you already know and then you have to roleplay situations an it's all awkward. Secondly, that's 3.5 hours away from my actual work tasks, such as the Inter Library Loans and QC-ing the new items. We're falling behind on the latter again and this training won't help. On the plus side it is only down the road from my apartment, so at least I don't have to go far.

Finally, I did do a Sims 4 session, but ended up not saving because poor Gardner Shea is not having the best honeymoon, I sent him and Lady to the jungle, but he keeps getting attacked by various creatures. When I left the game he was on fire! o.O I hope the game's not trying to kill him off, because seriously, the audacity.

On that note, I better be off, hopefully I might have a more interesting update tomorrow. Good night!

11:15pm: Yes, indeed, after watching so much of the Bigwallet Marathon and seeing that it's only 6 Aussie dollars a month I decided to subscribe to James Turner's YouTube channel. It does give me access to all these nifty members-only videos, so that's fun! I'm not sure how long I'll stay subscribed, probably not forever though.

Moving on from that, not much else to report, although it's that time o' the month, which is never fun...especially on the second and third day... I'm not sure if I should go to the gym tomorrow especially since I'm working this weekend which means I can go to the gym after work on that day. Having said that though I really need to keep up with my strengthening exercises, especially having gone to see the physio this morning. She gave me some different exercises to do, although I haven't actually done them today, whoops. However, when she went to do the muscle massage thing, I had the worst pain in my glutes, apparently, the whole muscle is super tight, I think my posture is shitty... But yeah gotta work on that because seriously, when she poked that area I almost cried!

I got to work around 10am, so the day passed rather quickly, including the last hour of the day when I was on the desk, since the courier dropped off all the reserves from the other big libraries in our group and man were there a lot of reservations! I barely got through them all before needing to finish up.

Oh yeah...and despite telling myself not to, I managed to forget my apartment keys this morning, but fortunately, Mum was able to drop off the spare set to me after work, better remember to take them back on Wednesday.

And...I've stayed up way to late again, shit, so I gotta go now.

Goodnight!

8:00pm: The last part has rather put a dampener on the end of the weekend, especially seeing as it's also accompanied by stomach pain - although that at least seems to have eased up, although my digestive system decided to freak out on me like an hour ago which sucked a lot. I'm also super tired... I don't think I've been getting enough sleep seeing as I got up early yesterday morning as well as today for archery.

Actually, my digestive system was being most impolite this morning and I was a bit worried, fortunately, it calmed down so I was able to get to the class and shoot the arrows. I'm happy to report I am indeed getting better and actually hitting the target, but I haven't the best aim still. On the plus side it did mean that I was first out in the end of class shoot off which meant I was able to get to church. It was quite packed since as I mentioned it was the only mass for that weekend.

After mass - and some speeches about how the church got its start 50 years ago, there was the anniversary lumch, fortunately my stomach problems had gone dormant at that time so I was able to enjoy that, there was a buffet with quite a lot of options, I ended up with chicken wrap and a party pie and party sized sausage roll (which happened to be have been brought by Mum XD) and then a chocolate muffin, a mini cupcake with chocolate icing and a scone. Which I'm hoping isn't want brought on the digestive freak out later on. But who even knows?

Dad didn't go to the lunch so I had to drive Mum back to the retirement village before I came back here and finished reading the book that's been requested as an Inter Library Loan. As it turned out I couldn't actually finish it at work because it's actually super sad and I didn't want to start crying at work. So instead I read it this afternoon and cried here, which I guess could explain the headache, because crying sucks.

I wonder if I should take some Buscopan, hmmm...

Anyway, I was planning on replying to Vic's messages, but yeah, not feeling up to it right now, but do not fear I haven't forgotten!

On that note though, I'm out, I sure hope I feel better tomorrow after a good night's sleep.

11:14pm: Which I put on quite late because I totally forgot about doing it while I was busy making cupcakes for the Old Folk's Get-Together at Mum and Dad's retirement village tomorrow morning. Fortunately, my washing machine has a quick, but efficient cycle.

However, I figured I better give a quick update before it gets way too late... Interesting day at work - so to speak - only me and one other colleague were in today! My direct supervisor doesn't work Thursdays and Fridays and the other three all took the day off. However, I feel like the two of there got quite a bit done with the quality checking the books from the delivery we got on Wednesday. The number of boxes are much more reasonable now, I think I mentioned before, but because of the end of financial year we don't order for like two months, so when July rolls around suddenly there's a surge! But yeah we've got a reasonable amount now.

Of weirder work news, two birds somehow got into the library today - I've worked there for like 6 years now and this has never happened before! Fortunately, they were small birds, but unfortunately they kept flying around and because of the big windows in the library and the height of the ceilings there didn't seem to be any way to get them out! When my colleague and I left the library manager and another one of the branch staff were still trying to get them out through the fire door. Hopefully they managed it! I wonder if I should have stayed behind, it would have meant getting the bus home, but it seemed a bit mean to leave them in the lurch!

Anyway, the cupcakes are frosted and in their cupcake carrier ready to go tomorrow morning, I also got a book that my mother requested I reserve for her so I have to make sure I take that along too tomorrow morning, although apparently Mum won't be at the Get-Together, I think she might be doing Chair Yoga or something.

Before I go though...

These questions were written by Dreamwidth user got_quiet.

1. What is the last shower thought you had (aka random thought in the shower or during downtime) I was just thinking - while watching the pairs free program at the JGP of figure skating how weird the concept of a throw jump is. Who came up with that? And how did they get their partner to agree to such a crazy proposition?!

2. What is the last thing you changed your mind about? Hmm...I have to say I'm rather stubborn and not apt to change my mind, LOL. Nothing comes to my mind right now!

3. What was the last low-stakes argument you were in about? Hmmm...probably something at work about my tendency to ask "What if..?" It's a rather irritating issue I have! It was all good-natured though.

4. What is an idea you have that you know would probably never work, but it would be cool if it did? An equal providing of food to the world, we do actually produce enough food to feed everyone, but it's not equally available which is a real bummer :O( Unfortunately, capitalism makes this idea impossible. Boo-urns.

5. Who is someone who has ideas you like, or take inspiration from?

Hmm...well, one of my co-workers always has good ideas for how to do work more efficiently and what not, which is much appreciated! Also Mum, she always has ideas about how to do things.

On that note, I shall be off, that laundry won't hang itself unfortunately!

10:05pm: I'm not sure what's going on, but they're really rather sore...it was windy this afternoon so perhaps some dust or something got kicked up...

Speaking of the weather, it was 27 degrees today, like WTF? It's not even Spring yet, this doesn't bode well for Summer let me tell you!

In other news, I remembered something exciting from Trivia last night, one of the bonus round involved an anagram round, the clue was a "movie", for some reason just looking at it I was like "LOL, imagine if it was Back to the Future" and it totally was!! What are the chances?!

Not much else to report, although today Mum and Dad's car - which had to go to the smash repairers to be fixed - was ready to be picked up and because of where the smash repair place Mum decided it would be best to drive over to the Mall in my car, have me drive her to said smash repair place and drop her off and then drive my car back to the Mall. Which we did!

I did plan to park in the staff parking lot, however since I haven't used my staff pass in ages, it had been blocked. I'm pretty sure I'd have to go all the way to the car park office to get it unblocked, and that's all the way across the Mall, so nuts to that. Instead I parked in the public area, where in order to avoid having to pay you need to leave the parking lot and come back in before three hours is up. This is actually somewhat annoying when other colleagues do it through it the day (it costs $6 a day to park in the staff lot, which seems rather reasonable), but yeah.

Anyway, it's possible my eyeballs are sore because of a lack of sleep, so I'm gonna turn in now.

11:17pm: My itchiness, because right now Mum and I are discussing my home loans - in view of how to pay for the holiday to Japan next year and I'm very itchy indeed. I need to put my cream on...

Once again I've left this entry way too late and therefore I have no time to update :O( which is a shame because several things have happened today!

However, it is important to get the Japan trip locked in so I shouldn't complain, especially since I've managed to put the cream on.

But time is swiftly getting away and I wanted to go to bed earlier today but that looks like it'll be a nope.

So we're about to wrap things up with Mum, so I better be off.

No time to even do the Sim Thing! Ah well, that's life...

10:24pm: As an Aussie to actually "go back in time" when flying back from an overseas destination, but as Fiji is 2 hours ahead of Australia it happened!

So now it feels like 12:30am, but I can't head off to bed yet because I'm just finishing up making cupcakes for the Get Together at Mum and Dad's retirement village tomorrow, the last batch is just about ready to take out of the oven. And I should maybe make the frosting tonight, so I can frost them tomorrow, or maybe just wait for tomorrow, hmmm...

I do remain confounded over the flatness of my cupcakes...I put the baking powder and self-raising flour in, but they hardly rise at all. I wonder what I'm doing wrong? Hopefully, Mum won't be too disappointed by their appearance, and I only got 18 out of this batch as well so I'm not sure I can even taste-test one.

But I digress, this morning I was in Fiji! It's really amazing what planes allow us to do...I mean it seems like ages ago, but yeah it only took four and a half hours to travel 3,000km or so!

It has to be said, the difference in the weather is a bit of blow, it was a lovely 24 or 25 degrees C in Fiji, but now back here in Sydney it's 12 degrees! Brrrr.

Although, I did have a bit of a bad time this morning, when my IBS decided to wig out a bit...I ended up not having much breakfast - which wasn't helped by the fact the toast at the hotel this morning wasn't very tasty. The fruit platter was good though!

Now we didn't need to get to the airport until 1:35pm, but last night Mum came up with a plan to visit a very fancy hotel on the way to the airport, it's one of those places that have overwater bungalows, so we checked out at 11am to head that way. We ended up running a bit behind schedule and the taxi driver drove at quite a rate of knots! Not gonna lie I did briefly wonder if we were throwing caution too much to the wind and might end up having an accident, however, as you can tell by the fact I'm writing this we did not.

As it was though, we only had about twenty minutes or so at the hotel, we didn't venture very far into it, but we did go to the restaurant and had a drink (coffee for Mum and her friend, and what was meant to be an iced chocolate for me, but I think was a regular milkshake). The restaurant overlooks this beach which might be man made, that has the overwater huts and there's also beachside bungalows, so all in all a very fancy hotel indeed! I might need to save up my pennies to go there, although it probably wouldn't be for the whole time since that place is like $500 a night! o.O

It was a bit of a concern when our taxi driver, who was supposed to come and get us at 12:45pm didn't show up at first! I'm not sure where he got to, but it seems everyone knows everyone in Fiji and the hotel clerk was able to call him and let him know we were waiting.

We needed have worried too much though, because we got to the airport in good time - although I hoped to spot this goat we saw on our way to the hotel when we first arrived, Mum's friend actually spotted him first, he was hanging out in an old broken down car that had become overgrown with plants. You'd think this wouldn't be a hard thing to spot, but as I said we didn't manage to spot him.

Now the idea was that I would split off from Mum and her friend and do the whole checking in process and getting to the plane and all that by myself like I'm going to need to do when I come home from Japan next year. It didn't quite go that way though, firstly, I'd forgotten to download my boarding pass after Mum checked us all in, so we went to the check in counter together to get them printed off. Then I went off to change clothes and go through security and x-ray by myself, which was a bit an ass because as always I have way too many bags :OP I managed to get through in the end without losing anything.

The Nadi Airport is quite small compared to Sydney and I spotted Mum and her friend pretty quickly on the other side of security, but I decided to sit separately from them, at least until I went to fill up my water bottle, then I went and sat with them.

Then the plane was delayed, not for super long fortunately, but during this time I found out what the security people meant when they told me not to put the large rubber band back on my carry-on bag (it's a bag that has a lid that pops open and it's a bit iffy so the rubber band helps stop it from suddenly popping open at inopportune moments), apparently due to Aussie quarantine rules, they check your bag again before you can get on the plane. Also after filling my bottle with water I ended up having to pour it out. Shame.

Then, I was supposed to be sitting on the other side of the plane and a row back from Mum and her friend, but when we went to the check-in counter, the chap who printed off our boarding passes reassigned my seat so we were all seating together. In the end though this turned out to be a win, because firstly, the person who I would have been sitting next to was rather tall and wide so I would have been squished and secondly the tray table of my original seat didn't work! So thanks check-in counter chap!

On the good news side, even though the estimated time for the flight back from Fiji without the tailwind was five hours, that must have been a worse case scenario because as I wrote earlier it was four and a half hours. On the bad news side, the wi-fi wasn't working on the plane so even though I downloaded the Qantas entertainment app I couldn't watch Ghosts liked I'd hope, so instead I did one of the giant crosswords in the book Mum's friend purchased, I didn't actually finish it LOL.

Also while there wasn't 42 kids on this flight, there were two in close proximity to us and they cried like practically the whole flight! I mean, daaamn I get it during take off and landing, but the rest of the time... On the plus side there was a third baby who slept the whole ride so it might have been worse LOL.

Right, so it's coming up to midnight now, which is like 2am, so I'm gonna wrap this up here and head for bed even thought the archery is on at the Olympics which I enjoy watching. Ah well, I'll have to catch up I guess.

Goodnight all!

9:41pm: Indeed yes... it's our last night in Fiji already! Ah well, all things must end, and it's not like I don't like my job, although I have to say I'm not looking forward to the colder weather though! It'll be back to jumpers and long pants for me!

Moving along, today was a relaxing day, except for the attempted snorkeling, it's the first time I've ever worn flippers and I'm not a very co-ordinated person, so trying to walk out to deep enough water was difficult and then when I tried to actually swim and kick with them they were too heavy on my feet! I gave up on the flippers and put on the reef shoes figuring I could just stick my head under the water with the snorkeling mask on. (I decided not to try and use the snorkel itself, it looked uncomfortable) Unfortunately, I mustn't have put the mask on tight enough because water leaked into it, then got in my eyes and it rather burned with the salt, so I couldn't really see anyway. Also unfortunately, unlike yesterday it was super windy, so it was impossible to really see through the water to the sand bottom. I did manage to see a piece of coral, but that was it :O( Not to mention the current was really strong too, so any time I tried to swim I got pulled away.

Mum on the other hand has been snorkeling before, so she was able to get around and saw some fish, some sea snakes as well as a blue starfish and some coral.

It was a bit concerning when on the way back a whole bunch of waves appeared and ended up sort of, but not quite grazing my knee on some coral - or possibly rock. It's hard to tell and you always hear horror stories about what coral cuts can do to a person. But the redness has disappeared now and there was no actual skin breakage so I think I'm good. I put some Savlon on it as well.

Apart from that adventure, it was a quiet day, Mum and I went swimming in the pool after an outdoor shower to get the sand and whatever off. Although, more families with kids have shown up at the hotel, it was rather annoying this morning at breakfast when this kid kept blowing bubbles in his drink, seriously, that's a sound like nails on a chalkboard!

I also attempted another crossword in the book, the first one, since I figured that one might be easier and it sort of was, but there were quite a few clues that are just way out of left field. I think I'll stick with the Sydney Morning Herald crosswords!

So yes, by this time tomorrow we'll be back in chilly Sydney Australia, but we don't need to be at the airport until around 1pm, so we're going to stop by an even fancier hotel on our way to the airport tomorrow. It's the kind with overwater bungalows, so that will be fun.

It does mean having to get to bed earlier tonight so we can get an early start, so I better wrap this up here! I wrote two McFly July prompts this evening so I want to post those before I turn in.

Oh and despite applying sunscreen I somehow managed to get a slight sunburn, my sunscreen is still in date, so I'm not sure what that's all about, I didn't stay in the sun any longer than my mother who has fairer skin than I do, so it's a mystery!

10:57pm: Rather lazy day today, we didn't go into town or anything like that, although we did go to the fancy hotel down the road in the afternoon. I was considering having an iced chocolate there while Mum and her friend had some cocktails, but I decided not to since I was having a burger for dinner and since I'm not allowed to order from the kids menu (booo) I figured I better leave room for it.

For a lot of the day Mum and I hung out at the small pool here at our hotel, although we did move our sun lounges into the shade because even if it's technically winter here the sun is still very hot and bright. We did briefly get in the pool, which was a bit chilly when one first got in but it wasn't so bad after a while, not that we stayed in for long. Then to dry off we headed over to the strip of grass across the small road that's in front of the beach and is exclusive to hotel guests - although I'm not sure how they enforce that. It has a super nice view of the coral reef and the sea beyond.

I did do quite a bit of reading and them embroidering of my Pusheen on the beach, but alas no McFly July fanficcing, which is a bit awkward seeing as this is the last day of July and even if I use the excuse of not needing to finish it until tomorrow I'd need to do like...nineteen in one day. But I said I wouldn't worry too much about it, since it's just for fun.

Since it was such a lazy day I don't have much to report although the itchiness has returned, which is bloody annoying, I should book a doctor's appointment when I get back. I hope it's nothing too serious!

Anywho, I was writing on McFly July prompt, before doing this entry - since I thought I'd have more to say, but I didn't LOL.

Although Mum, her friend and I have been having fun trying to do a crossword from a book said friend bought from the airport. It's proving to be very difficult indeed! But hilarious, they've got some very odd answers to clues.

Right on that note, I should be off!

10:22pm: After a very good night's sleep (Monday didn't go as well because both Mum and her friend both snore and we were sharing a room, LOL) it was full speed ahead for the first full day in Fiji.

We started off with breakfast, which is included in our stay. It's meant to be a Tropical breakfast, but the hotel lets you have other breakfast stuff as long as it adds up to the same amount, so Mum and I shared a plate of eggs on toast, hash brown, breakfast sausage and bacon. I didn't want bacon and Mum didn't want the bacon, so we swapped those and that was good eatin'!

Then we headed off into the nearest town in the hope of buying a few things, like cheese and maybe a souvineer, there's this really cool clock at the hotel reception here, I have seen such ones before, where all the numbers have are at the bottom of the clock like they've fallen there and "Who cares?" written on it. Considering my chronic lateness this would be very handy indeed! As it happens I couldn't find said clock, but it's not really a Fiji-centric souvineer, you can buy those online (although the one here at the hotel has "Fiji Time" or something written on it), so I ended up getting a t-shirt with a turtle and Fiji written on it. Nice.

I also got my cheese! And there was a fabric shop where I found some embroidery thread, I'm working on a new Pusheen cross-stitch - tropical themed :O) We also went to the vegetable market, where we got carrots, there was also some very interestingly shaped bananas there too. Mum's friend bought a really short fat one LOL, we're going to eat it on Thursday - it's still green at present.

I did have a bit of a scare when I didn't notice a step down and my right foot landed quite heavily, but fortunately, it's OK.

Oh and we also bought a big bag of Twisties and since we had a big and late breakfast I didn't have much for lunch back at our hotel, just some of those and a carrot LOL.

After that we went to the beach just across from the hotel, which is just for hotel guests (although, there's nothing really stopping anyone from just going there, but I think people are generally honest) where we sat on beach chairs. Mum also got us some reef shoes - the hotel is on the Coral Coast of Fiji, which means there's a big coral reef on the beach that extends out for what has to be about a kilometre. So if you want to go into the water you need these reef shoes so you don't cut your foot on coral. Mum and I went into the water for a bit, but the tide was going out, so it wasn't quite deep enough to swim, we'll try again tomorrow. (Good news for me, that time o' the month is finally over!)

Then finally, the big event of the day, dinner at the fancy hotel with a Cultural Show of Fijian music and dancing. It was a most delicious dinner, a buffet! :O) And the Cultural show was really interesting too although I had trouble making out the explanations the host gave, so I was bit lost as to what was going down LOL.

The only downside of the evening was that the seat of my chair was loose, which I didn't notice until I went to pull it in closed to the table, a which point I got one of my fingers caught between the seat and the frame and that hurt like an absolute bitch! I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up with a bruise under my nail after that, ouch.

In other news, I got the 11th prompt of McFly July done and posted, but I didn't write any on others, there was quite a bit of downtime today but I was working on my embroidery instead. Ah well, you can only do your best.

Anywho, it's coming up to 11pm, so I should probably head off and do my Duolingo before my mother and her friend decide to head to bed.

Goodnight!

11:10pm: In Fiji! This is the first time I've been here and although our hotel was like an hour's drive from the airport, it is on the beach, which we can see sliver of from the hotel room.

I have to admit, I was pretty nervous as we made our way to plane, my leg kept shaking whenever we had to pause on the air bridge. Fortunately, I calmed down once I was in my seat and I had my Panic Assistance Audio, which helped a lot.

It was quite an interesting flight, I must say, it was a 737 and 42 of the passengers aboard were kids! That's like a third of the flight! Since it's not the school holidays, they were quite young children including a number of babies who cried a lot on take off and landing, which I guess is fair enough because of the ear popping. I know mine were popping up a storm!

We also got breakfast on the plane, I took the fruit option because the other choice involved scrambled eggs, which I'm opposed to :OP. But it also came with a nice yoghurt and museli, so yum! There was also a brownie later on, which was most delicious indeed.

The ride from the airport to the hotel, was as I said, long, but it did give us an opportunity to see a lot of the island on the way. There were quite a few horses near the edge of the road, eating the grass. There was also a lot of churches! I'd been a bit worried about the roads after talking to my work colleague on Saturday, but fortunately we must have gone a different way or they've improved the roads since she was here because it was a normal width. At least until you got close to the the hotel, then it was a rather bumpy - though still paved one lane road.

Fiji is two hours ahead, so we had a rather busy afternoon, going up to the fancy hotel just down the road... we didn't swim, but we did hang out near the pool and had coffee (Mum and her friend), ice chocolate (me!) and a little basket of hot chips. As we were leaving a fire dancing guy ran out and lit torches around the pool area as the sun was setting. He was a nice fellow and showed us the way to the beach so we could walk back here to our hotel where we had dinner. I have to confess I didn't have anything too adventurous, just chicken wings and a salad, it was good eating though.

Now, I have been working on a McFly July fic, but I'm not going to be able to finish it in time to post tonight since Mum, her friend and I are all sharing a room and they're about to go to bed.

But I think I can sneak in...

The Friday Five

26/7/24

1. Are you watching, or did you watch, the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics today?

Actually, I did! I had to get up at a decent hour because I had work, so Mum rang me to let me know the torch was about to be lit and later on I watch the "catch up" to see the Parade of Nations, I quite liked the boat idea!

2. Which team has the coolest uniforms?

The island countries usually have colourful and cool outfits! I think maybe Bermuda had some particularly loud party-type shirts this time around, which was much appreciated.

3. Which team showed the best team spirit during the ceremony?

My memory is failing me...but I seem to recall the US team was really going off...maybe Spain too LOL.

4. What do you think of the Olympic Committee having decided to offer more plant-based food to the athletes, only to have them complain of not enough lean protein?

Huh, I hadn't heard about this...but that's a bit awkward...

5. Have you ever attended an Olympic event in person, or even a try-out?

Yes! I went and saw the trampolining with my mother during Sydney 2000, aaaaah that was so much fun! I wish I still had my diaries from that year so I could re-read that.

And now I better be off, most pleasing, the weather is lovely and we can wear 3/4 length pants and t-shirts, whoo!

9:39pm: Well probably more like 10 hours and 56 minutes or something, but yes, I'm reporting live from the airport hotel where Mum, her friend and I are staying, which is a damn good thing because otherwise we'd have to get up at stupid o'clock to get here in time.

I think I've got everything in hand, although the suitcase situation is a bit frambious, I have two wheely suitcases and Mum had the idea of putting one on top of the other, which works well for her because her suitcases are made to do that, mine not so much. We have to use this rubber strap thing to secure one on top of the other and a dropped mine like twice in the short distance between the front of the hotel and our room. Normally, I wouldn't be too worried, but I've got my laptop in the case on top and I was worried that I might crack the screen or something. Fortunately, the laptop bag seems to be keeping it well protected.

The airport hotel is really cool, it has a bar on the top level that overlooks the runway and you can watch the planes taking off and landing. We went up there and watch them for half an hour or so, good times.

We...well I rather had dinner in the bar downstairs, unfortunately, I totally forgot that Sunday surcharges are a thing...which added to the surcharge for credit card made my meal three dollars more than the menu price. Which I guess isn't too bad, but somewhat annoying.

In other news, I didn't actually do the McFly July prompt for today and I don't have time to do the Friday Five either, boo-urns.

I guess I'll catch up on those later, for now though, goodnight!

11:06pm: Oops, it's also past 11pm, but yes, after a snafu with our library supplier getting the new payment details from out library there was a delivery of boxes today! :OD Somewhat unfortunately, only two titles out of the six or seven were able to be put out because we still haven't got the receipt files. With any luck they'll be uploaded overnight so I can get the rest through. There might be another delivery tomorrow too, so things will be getting back into the usual swing of things, although I'll be heading off with Mum and her friend to Fiji on Monday, which is exciting!

Speaking of that, Mum came over this evening to drop of my carry-on so I could pack it. I did my best to tidy up a bit, but yeah, it was a bit of a fail, but not as bad as it has been, since I got it mostly tidied pretty quickly, although the wintergarden is still looking a bit of bomb-hit, but we don't talk about that LOL.

Finally before I head off, I got Day 8 of McFly July done, but I'm not entirely sure what to write for Day 9 so I'm still behind, dang. Hopefully something will come to mind!

And now I will Meme and run:

The Friday Five

9/2/24

These questions were written by buggybestie on LJ.

1. At what age did you discover you had a favorite color? Well, my favourite colour is green, I'm not entirely sure it's been that way my whole life, but it must have been pretty early because when I was around 5 we moved into our house in Dubbo and my room was a lovely shade of green. Although I don't know if that was how it was painted when we moved in I assume so, because my brother's rooms were painted white. Anyway to make a long story short, I'm pretty sure I've loved green my whole life :O)

2. What type (genre) of film do you prefer to see in a theater versus one you'd watch at home? Well, I enjoy comedies and animated films and I don't mind if it's at home or the cinema - especially since the latter is so expensive these days! It was pretty cool seeing Inside Out 2 in the cinema though, since we had fancy reclining seats ;O)

3. What's your oldest object or item since childhood? Well, I think I still have the cradle my toy doll went in when I was a kid - although that's at my parents place these days. For something in my possession it would be this folder of things from when I was in kindergarten, like my report cards and some class awards. That stuff would be 35 years old now (eek!)

4. In what book would you insert yourself as a side character or friend to the protagonist? That's a tough one...I mean it'd be kind of cool to be in Sweet Valley as long as I'm not kidnapped or something LOL.

5. What's your favorite shape or type of cloud? Well that's a random question...I guess I like fluffy clouds, so whatever those are - cumulus? I used to know when I did geography, but that was over 20 years ago so I've forgotten.

OK, Moose out!

P.S That time o' the month did indeed come, so with any luck it should be pretty much over by the time I head off to Fiji, wipes brow.

11:24pm: The title there doesn't just mean the time, because I'm supposed to get to bed at a decent hour, but also because I think I fucked up at work today and I'm worried about getting told off tomorrow. :O(

Obviously, I didn't mean to fuck up, but yeah...I thought I was helping out, there's a lot to do with the new financial year and two of the people who were doing item selections are no longer doing it, so there's been quite the backlog with "Suggestions for Purchase". So I figured I'd go in there, and assign any that aren't in the two categories we don't have selectors for right now to their proper selectors. Which I thought I did, but then the person in the team who's been doing them - along with heaps of other stuff - went in and queried where some of the "Suggestions" had gone. I'm sure I didn't move any non-fiction or DVD stuff... but yeah. I'm feeling rather guilty, because my supervisor did say we'd discuss the whole "Suggestions for Purchase" thing tomorrow. But I was all caught up on my Inter Library Loan stuff and I even did the thirty minutes of shelf tidying, but apparently I'd managed to forget that I'm still supposed to be writing processes and stuff. So yeah, that sucks.

When I spoke to Mum about this, she suggested coming into work early (I'm usually like ten minutes late...), unfortunately, I've got my physio appointment, so I'll be coming in an hour late. Which I've told them about, but yeah, dang.

Anyway, that's all pretty crappy and it's coming up on 20 to midnight so I better haul.

The Friday Five

16/2/24

1. Have you ever been the president of anything? Hmm, I don't believe so, I'm not really the leader type to be honest.

2. What do you think is the most important leadership trait? Being the opposite of Donald Trump, basically. In all seriousness though, someone who makes the hard decisions.

3. What time period did you find the most interesting to learn about in history class? I did enjoy learning about Ancient Egypt. Although, I'm a big history buff, so I liked learning about lots of time periods.

4. What's something you think about doing, but you haven't gotten back into in several years? Fortunately, I've managed to get back into most of those things I've been thinking of getting back into. I guess maybe Sim City? Although I've now moved onto Cites Skylines

5. If you could add one more random holiday to February, what would it be?
Um...hmm...I do love a public holiday, but I have no idea! Maybe Leap Year Day, although that would mean a holiday every four years.

OK, better dash!

9:45pm: So I always forget that when I have a cold I feel shitty in the mornings, so I'm super glad I have those Doctor's Certificates! No way would I have wanted to go to work this morning. I'm also taking tomorrow off as well to make sure I'm good to go for Monday, which will be a half day, so I'll be easing back into it.

Making sure my hands were clean I made the cupcakes for my parent's retirement village's get-together tomorrow. Vanilla ones, which is not my usual MO, but Mum asked if I could make them and I said I would, it went pretty well until it came to add the milk. The last few times I've made cupcakes I've made a double batch which means one cup of milk...this time I was doing my usual batch which only needs a half. You can see where this is going...

Queue the cake batter practically turning into a liquid and me going O.O, then adding a whole lot of flour to make it become solid again, before realising that might be a bad decision and looking up the internet to see what if anything I could do to rescue the situation (I didn't want to have to throw the batter out). The first suggest I saw luckily said to add extra flour, but it also recommended adding an extra egg, which made sense... I once got a recipe from M for a one egg cake, which didn't work when I tried it...I guess egg helps bind all the ingredients together, because when I baked the cake it wasn't properly solid and just fell into a puddle.

Long story short, I managed to get the batter looking right again and got to baking the first batch of six. They looked pretty good when I took them out, but I decided I better taste test one at which point I realised that cupcake was rather...flat. Also, because of the cold my sense of taste is kinda off right now, so I wasn't even 100% sure they did in fact taste OK.

I decided to call Mum at this point for advice, thankfully she had some which was while adding the flour and egg was a good idea, I needed more baking soda to help it rise. Duh. The net did say to just double the recipe and I did add extra vanilla as well, but totally blanked on the baking soda.

Unfortunately, I'd put the second batch of six in, whoops, so in the end half the batch had the appropriate amount of baking soda and the other half didn't LOL.

After all 23 were ready to go I packed them up and headed over to Mum and Dad's so Mum could decorate them - she had dollop cream and wanted to butterfly them and add a little decoration on top. Unfortunately, I'd kind of forgotten what the roads can be like at 3pm on school day...took twice as long as usual to drive to my parents place, lucky for me it usually only takes ten minutes so it wasn't THAT bad.

I hung around while Mum decorated the cupcakes, they look really good! With any luck if there's any left over I'll get to enjoy some! In the end there were 22, because Mum had to test one as well which met with her approval. Wipes brow, lucky me!

In a blast from the past look what's still around on LJ...

The Friday Five

28th June 2024

1. Have you gotten everything done that you had hoped to do during the first half of 2024?

Hmm, sort of? Once again I've been failing at the keeping up with IRL friends, but I have managed to take four short flights on an airplane (having not flown for more than 20 years), and otherwise facing some of my anxiety issues, so go me.

2. Did anything exciting or unexpected happen to you during the first half of 2024?

Well, I visited Cairns u in Queensland Australia for the first time, that was pretty exciting! Considering how cold the weather has been this winter, having a short four day visit to the tropics was much appreciated :O) Plus, the flight up and down went quite well for me, so that was a relief.

3. What big plans do you have for the second half of 2024?

Well, in about three weeks I'll be heading to Fiji with Mum and her friend - this will be about a five hour flight. I'm pretty hopeful that I'll be good for it, plus more tropical weather and a place I haven't been to before, huzzah!

4. Have you taken, or are you planning, a vacation this year?

Heh, see above. Mum's a bad influence on me :OP I've already gone to Cairns this year and soon Fiji!

5. Have you ever wanted to be one of the people writing and posting these questions?

I feel like this might be a request for questions to be sent in...and maybe? Depends if I've got any inspiration, which I currently don't. I probably should send in some questions one day though...

Well, it's almost 10:30 so I should probably haul. Le Tour de France is on tonight, but alas it's the time trial and that's not nearly as fun as having a peloton to watch.

8:50pm: So I had another sick day today, the good news is my throat has stopped hurting (praise the Lord!), although my nose is running and/or stuffed up as Hell, it makes it hard to breathe.

In regards to my title, well I discovered that apparently if you take more than 2 days off you need a doctor's certificate, I thought you needed one after three days.

This is a bitch though because it means if I want to take tomorrow off, I need to go to the doctor, which is pretty dumb, because I know I have a cold and those generally take three days to clear up if not four. So now I'm supposed to go to a doctor's office, sit in the waiting room possibly infecting others all so I can get a note that says I have cold? Like WTF? That seems really backwards...

Now apparently you can get a certificate from a pharmacist, but obviously that's not quite the same thing as a doctor's certificate. I suppose I should clarify with my boss about that.

But yeah... I'm thinking I'll have to take a sick day tomorrow, if for not other reason then one of my work colleagues is immuno-compromised and I certainly wouldn't want to get her sick, that would be shitty of me.

I swear though, it's three days not two...but I have no way to confirm that, so I have to go with what my boss currently says. Annoying.

Also, I could have sworn I heard a few weeks back they were going to make changes to sick leave where you DIDN'T need a doctor's certificate because hey it's your sick leave and with COVID and all the idea of going to a doctor to tell you what you already know is a waste of time at best and a possible spreading event at worst. Grumble, grumble.

Also of annoyance, my ears are blocked, makes it hard to hear TV shows and my mother - I'm over at my parent's place because my Lite n Easy meals get delivered here Thursday morning, she also wanted to see the clothes I'll be taking on our Fiji trip, plus she came over to pick me up today since she borrowed my car the other day (one of my parents' cars had to go to the mechanics). This was also so we could talk to the financial advisor on the phone (my mortgage's are coming off their fixed rates so we might re-finance), this also means that my apartment got cleaned up, it was seriously due for it, so phew.

Plus we also get to watch our shows together, or maybe not...since apparently Mum watched them because they were online and the TV antenna at their place is being an ass. Hmpf, guess I should have watched them myself :OP although at least we got to watch the first 10 minutes.

Now we're watching Le Tour De France, gotta love Le Tour.

Anyway, I guess I should wrap this up because I have to blow my nose.

Damn colds.

10:24pm: Well, it's been aaaages since I've updated (again), but I feel a bit of a need to do it because of something that happened today.

For the past few months I've been going to this Arts and Crafts Circle which was set up by a lady in the area (Mum found it when she was on a quest to help me find IRL people to hang with), they've been monthly meeting and I've been doing my Pusheen cross stitch during it. The lady run it was hoping to get more interest, but no luck there.

Anyway, we were supposed to meet last weekend, but she asked if we could postpone it to today, which I was fine with - I felt a bit icky last Saturday anyway, so that was actually good. But alas when I messaged to confirm today, she said it wasn't a good time, but she'd call me later (I was at work until 1:30pm today).

Sooo...as it turns out, apparently, she's decided not to continue the group because I'm not as interested in design and that's what she was hoping for when she started the group. Fair enough, though I probably would have called it "Arts and Design Circle" in that case.

I'm kind of bummed about this...admittedly, there was quite an age gap between us, so it's not like we had a heap in common or whatever, but it still feels awkward, like did I just get dumped? LOL. I suppose I should use this as an opportunity to try and reconnect with my old friends, especially since I've been working on the train-ing and should be able to visit them.

Actually, I've been facing a lot of my discomforts lately, in just one week I'll be flying up to Cairns to meet up with my mother who is stopping there on her way back from Japan (where she's been visiting my big bro and his family). I'll be going with my mother's friend on the way up, but then...I'll be taking the return flight home on my own. At the start of last month I took my first flight since 2001, a short one hour one with Mum to Ballina where we stayed for one night after meeting up with another friend of hers.

Now having not been on a plane for more than 20 years (damn), and then only ever having taking overseas flights I was rather shocked at the complete lack of space. Like you get more room in a bus! (Although on the way back home I did in fact get more room because I sat apart from Mum in the Economy X section. But yeah, they really pack you in now a days.

So yes, next week it's up to Cairns and at the end of July I'll be going with Mum and her friend (the one who met up with is in Ballina) to Fiji.

All this is to prepare for going to Japan next year, Mum wants to go on this tour before going to stay with my big bro and family. I'll be seeing them too, but whereas she stays for three weeks, I'll only be there for a week or so - my big bro's house is way too small to feet us all in. Which means that while Mum and I will be on the nearly 10 hour flight TO Japan, I will need to fly back on my own.

So far my exposure therapy thing has been going pretty well, so fingers crossed! Although I did have a bit of a panic attack driving to my psychiatrist appointment on Friday (the irony), but I managed to get through it and get to my appointment, so yeah. Also, I purchased a Pusheen travel pillow in the hope it'll give me joy while flying XD. It has a built in eye-mask, so no doubt I'll look ridiculous with it on, but hey whatever works. I did plan on getting a Pusheen neck pillow, but they're only available from overseas and the cost of postage is ridiculous. This has proven to be quite the bummer because I somehow lost my Pusheen caps and I can't justify spending like 50 bucks in postage to get replacements.

I still can't figure out what happened to my caps...I know I definitely lost one, but I don't remember taking the other one out of my apartment, so what's that all about? I've cleaned the place since the disappearance and it's definitely not here. Bah.

Although speaking of cleaning, I really do need to tidy up the place, sigh, whenever I clean up - usually under the direction of Mum, I swear I'll keep the place nice, but invariably it goes to Hell. It's quite annoying to me, I mean I don't set out to mess up my place, buuuut...I think my main problem is, that while I do see the mess, it doesn't bother me enough to pick up right away, so I get home and sit down and before I know it's bed time and I haven't cleaned a damn thing. But I better get to work on it tomorrow because I want to be clean before leaving on the Cairns trip.

Not much else to report since my last update way back in January, as I often lament I'm not sure what to update with these days... on the other hand when I look at the entries from when I DID update every day it's not like I was doing exciting and interesting stuff then either. There was more in terms of memes (or question lists, I'm not sure why they were called memes, but whatever) and for a long time I didn't have a full-time job so I could write about job hunting or whatever. Or maybe I was just more inclined to type about whatever.

It's just occurred to me though...we're half way through the year, right? Already?! Crap, time passes alarmingly fast these days...I should do more mindfulness to take advantage of every moment.

Speaking of time, it's now past 11pm and I don't want to stay up too late so I shall wrap this up here.

Until we meet again (don't know where, don't know when...)

Ta ta for now!

6:02pm: The entry that includes the quiz thing I retook yesterday:

https://anonymoose-au.livejournal.com/105444.html

Hilariously enough, most of the answers are the same! Pretty much the only difference is I picked "John" (Dad) as a name instead of "Michael" (my big bro).

And the songs were a bit different, although these ones actually seen to fit better, well at least one of them Prince Albert did indeed young.

But the evidence of me being basically the same person, having practically the same answers 17 years after the fact would do it.

I also came across another quiz that still worked!

https://anonymoose-au.livejournal.com/101517.html

Apparently I'm worth a little less these days, but not by much! Not sure

In other news, I wanted to go to the gym after work today and brought in my workout gear and everything, but I've pulled a calf muscle or something, and while I can walk, it hurts and the internet tells me working out as normal would be a poor decision. So I took my stuff all the way home, which sucked. Especially since I developed a headache on my way home on the bus. I've taken ibprufen for it which seems to be working although now my stomach hurts (WTF?) and I've also put ice on my calf as advised by the RICE protocol. Although now it's no longer a cold pack so I've had to put it back in the freezer. Bummer. I sure hope this clears up quickly, I'm on desk for 6 hours at the library on Saturday.

In other news I've been meaning to do more fanfic writing, but instead I've been sucked into the addictiveness that is Sims 3: Create a World, I'm creating Hill Valley and I'm trying to be as accurate as I can with it and it's proving to be quite the project!

But yeah I want to keep up with the writing, because if reading my old journal entries have taught me anything, it's how much I love writing.

And that's all for now, oh I almost forgot! My mother and friend finally came by to see the apartment - they were originally going to do this on Sunday, so the two additional days I had to clean up were much appreciated! I haven't spoken to her yet so I'm not sure how my cleaning attempt was received, but Mum said she'll call back later.

Also, Sammy the Robo-vac still had a flat battery this morning! I hope he's not broken, he's less than 6 months old!

Right better go put my laundry on, because I haven't been able to do that until Mum visited because otherwise I would have had to hang it up which wouldn't have been very attractive.

6:43pm: At least that's what I'm supposed to be doing, but I've been meaning to update this thing and I've kept on forgetting so I figured I'd do it now while it's on my mind.

Of course, now I'm here I'm not sure what if anything I wanted to write about! Pft major fail.

Well, the reason behind my title up there is my mother and her friend are planning to come over tomorrow to see my apartment and as so typical of me the place is an utter disaster zone. So I really shouldn't be writing this but cleaning up my floor, which as Mum always says "Isn't a storage area!"

Sigh, I swear I don't know how the place gets this messy, it's not like I throw things on the floor...at least that's my claim. But then again, when stuff falls off the couch here I don't bust a gut picking it up. Yeah that probably explains a lot.

Seriously though, I thought I had something to say, sigh.

Oh yeah, the figure skating has started up for the Junior skaters and while none of my favourite Russian kids will be there (for reasons we all know), there's lots of other skaters to enjoy and the men er boys will be skating their free programs in just half an hour! I totally missed the girls though and there was an Australian girl! I should try and watch that.

I'm also hungry, it's dinner time and I've got sausages to cook up.

Wish me luck with my cleaning!
