10:33pm: Well, I got off the ship and everything this morning, but yes! After five nights aboard the Carnival Adventure I'm back.

However, because I had to get up quite early and I didn't actually sleep very well I'm super sleepy right now so I won't go into too much detail, although I did keep a journal while I was gone so I'll actually properly remember what went down.

I will say that now it's Carnival cruise rather than a P&O cruise there have been changes made that are not good, on the plus side I guess that makes it less depressing that the cruise is actually no longer being offered.

Still the tennis was very enjoyable to watch live and the weather was pretty good all things considered. The only downside...I lost M's bucket hat on the bus :O( Considering that was also my archery hat this is a huge bummer. It's possible it might show up after the buses are cleaned, so I'm holding out a bit of hope.

Right, sorry about the short entry, but my bed calls and I want to do archery tomorrow, so goodnight!

9:34pm: I meant to update yesterday, but with all the cleaning and tidying I had to do at my apartment with Mum I rand out of time.

But yes, the subject title refers to archery yesterday - it was our monthly(?) handicap shoot and with the weather there was only seven of us there - two of whom were new to the club and thus not eligible and one who had to withdraw due to equipment issues. I was scoring for myself and the other chap on our target so I couldn't see how the scores were progressing, but my target partner could see it and told me that I was actually winning! Considering some of the shots I was making - including somehow shooting an arrow into the flag on top the target and having it get stuck up there - I could hardly believe it. But it was true! The guy running the beginner's course even thought I was gonna win it.

But alas, on the last round, though we were quite close 18m, we had to shoot on a tiny 40cm target and alas it all fell down and I ended up in 3rd.

I'm not that bummed about it, although it does rather suck because one of the prizes I could have won was this backpack that converts into a little seat and it comes in green! As previously mentioned it was an unusual circumstance with the weather and all, so I'm not sure I'll ever get a chance at winning the bag again.

Oh and my friend Lara also came for the Come n Try session, she was a bit late though, which made me a little worried because I know I get tsked at when I'm late, LOL. But she got her bow and arrow - she's left eye dominant which I found interesting! Unfortunately, while she had a good enough time, she hit the inside of her elbow with the bow string more than once and ended up with a rather nasty bruise. So I'm not sure she'll go for the Beginner's course...although the first time I shot an arrow at a Come n Try the string hit my chest, which was hella painful even with a padded sports bra on. Luckily a chest guard has prevented any further incidents.

Moving on, tomorrow is the big day! Mum, her friend and I depart on our cruise down to the Australian Open, I'm a bit nervous because of all the rain and wind (this morning I didn't go to archery because it was bucketing down) how will the sea be? I've got my anti-sea sickness bands which work well, but I do remember once feeling like the ship was going up and down in an insane manner, but Mum said it was rocking gently. We can only hope!

Right now I'm watching a first round match of the AO, featuring World No 1 Carlos Alcaraz and an Aussie kid I've never heard of, Adam Walton. The Aussie kid is going pretty well, he even broke Alcaraz's serve, but Alcaraz has broke back now. Still, Adam Walton is doing a boss job against the World No 1! Especially seeing as the match is happening on the Rod Laver Arena - aka the Centre Court of AO.

Finally, I had a slight moment of worry when it looked like I'd lost my mouse dongle, but it turned out in was in the pocket of another pair of pants - phew! I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to get a replacement one since the mouse only cost 5 bucks, but I don't just want to throw out stuff.

Oh and I almost forgot, Mum and I had to go back and do some more cleaning, but my apartment sans the winter garden is now gleaming. Man, I gotta keep it that way...I need to come up with some strategies!

Oh and another thing -

These questions were written by frieliegh on LJ.

1. If you could change one life-changing event in the life of someone important to you, would you? Hmm well fortunately I can't think of any horrible life changing events that have happened to someone I know. Even if I did though, I'm not sure I would, at least not without their permission. Maybe if it was something really terrible though.

2. Which do you think is easier to do, being friends for many years, or being life partners for many years? I guess being a friend? One assumes life partners are also friends, but you usually live together so that would add complications.

3. Have you ever walked away from someone you considered a friend? No, although I'm really bad at keeping contact with friends and there's a few of them who I haven't seen in months! I really should do something about that.

4. If you had to choo

11:47pm: Forget to drive my car to work.

What did I forget to do?

Yep, you guessed it.

As it turned out this wasn't the disaster I feared because Mum and Dad's car wasn't ready, but I didn't find that out until much later in the day, so I'd arranged to meet Dad back at my apartment building. Then Mum called to say that the car place actually closes at 4pm on Fridays! Which seems pretty early, but they had also given Dad a taxi voucher so I wouldn't need to drive him in any case, wipes brow.

I also swore to Mum that I'd finish tidying my place enough to send her photos, otherwise she was going to come over before church tomorrow on the way home from the airport (she's been up visiting a friend) which I wanted to be avoid, but I have not tidied up enough for this, so nuts to to me.

Finally, I forgot that the European Figure Skating Championships is on right now! I don't think I've missed too much, so that's a relief. However, because it's on in Europe the time difference means I don't think I"ll be able to watch much of it live. Rhythm Dance in on right now, the theme is 90s so that's a blast from the past - the first couple on the ice just skated to I'm Too Sexy, which is hilarious.

Aaaand it's only 7 minutes to midnight and I have archery tomorrow so I gotta run.

11:03pm: And I'm not even halfway through my Duolingo challenges for January! I've been falling down on my language learning! Although despite having 2000 days under my belt, my ability to actually speak the language is a fail. Ah well, at least I can read some stuff.

In other news, it feels like Friday, but fortunately it isn't because that means I have an extra day to finish tidying up my apartment before Mum comes by to look at it. I'm making very slow progress, but I guess that's just how I roll.

Nothing much else to report, although I have to remember to drive into work tomorrow because I'll be driving Dad to pick up his and Mum's car from the panel beaters and it'd be rather embarrassing if he shows up at the Mall and I don't have a car to drive him in! I should also sign up for Archery on the weekend, my new friend Lara has signed up for the Come n Try Course, so I'll see her there, I wonder how she'll go.

Right, so time is getting on and I want to make sure that I get to bed at a decent hour so I better wrap this up here, the exciting adventures of Moose never end I guess LOL.

Flip Flop

11:44pm: The subject heading is in regards to House Flipper 2 which I have been playing with reckless abandon, too bad I can't clean my house in real life like I do these houses. I made some headway yesterday, but not so much this evening, which considering that's the reason I didn't go over to Mum and Dad's place tongith is poorly done from me. I've got two days to get this place up to Mum standard otherwise I'm going to have to clean it all in one hit, which is never fun.

And now my internet is deciding to act weird, it says it's connected but YouTube stopped working and I just got a Cloud Error from Steam... Having said that though it's late so I should take that as my cue to head to bed. I need to do my Duolingo though, can't let down the green owl XD

I don't have much else to report except for that although I'm wondering if Ghosts is back on after the Christmas/New Year's Break. I feel like I'm neglecting my fandom, shame on me! Although I have been trying to make the McFly House in House Flipper 2 sandbox mode, I think I'm doing an alright job, but it's hard to say. Someone actually did make the house, but they only decorated the main room/kitchen and garage which I found a bit weird, but maybe they ran out of time or something. It's still really good though!

Right, so on that note, I shall be off!

11:56pm: Whoops, once again I totally lost track of time and now I don't have much time to update this. Not that I have too much to say, the day was same ol' same ol' with nothing exciting to report. Although I at least did my laundry today, I still need to hang the second load up though, which considering the fact I was trying to get to bed at a decent hour is a screw up.

I also went to the gym, which was good! As it turned out Channel 7 with my favourite game show The Chase was on one of the TVs again, with the captions too! Alas, it was on the TV furthest away from the work out machines I use, so I couldn't actually see it. Ah well, I was watching Dr Gluon instead, which I've been doing since discovering that the gym has wi-fi.

OK, I better dash now, sorry for the short entry!
anonymoose_au: (Plushy Goes Eeeee!)
11:20pm: Well, it's late again so I really better make this quick! There was a bit of a drama at work this morning when I arrived and looked at the roster only to discover that I was supposed to do the closing shift, despite the fact that it's my half day today! Obviously, I should have checked the roster last week, but I'm not used to being on opening or closing shifts, and totally forgot.

Then, even more drama, I decided to check next week's roster - that's when I'm going to be on the Australian Open cruise, and discovered I wasn't marked as on leave! Which was thoroughly confusing to me because I definitely remembered giving notice. As it turns out though I accidentally did the old procedure for taking leave instead of the new one...which involves emailing the Branch Manager first not putting in for the leave through our Time Management...thing.

So yeah fortunately I got that all sorted out, but yeah a bit awkward not checking ahead and I'm pretty sure the Library Manager was the one who had to cover the closing shift this evening.

I did offer to do the shift although it would have meant having to take a long break in the middle of the day because I had a podiatrist appointment this afternoon, which turned out to be much longer than usual because I'm due for new orthodics so the podiatrist had to take new plaster casts of my feet. I also mentioned about my ice skates and the problem it was causing my big toe and he made some adjustments with the old orthodics I have in them so they should be way better now. It'll be a bit of time before I can test them out though! As for my new orthodics they'll be ready in a couple of weeks. They're also going to set me back quite a bit of dough and I don't have any foot related treatments on my Private Health Insurance cover because it would have required going up to the next level of cover which would have been really quite expensive and I think I figured out it wouldn't be worth it. Let's hope my maths was right!

Oh and I'm not sure I mentioned this, I think I did, but one of my library books disappeared when I was at my parent's place last week, I looked for it yesterday when I was over there, but no luck. However, I was positive it was there because it's the last place I saw it. So after the podiatrist I headed over to drop off the little container that had a piece of my mother's lasagna (which I ate for dinner last night) to look for it again. And hurrah! I found it! It was hiding under the bed, which I looked under yesterday, but obviously not well enough. What a relief though! Paying for a lost library book is expensive, plus I want to finish reading it.

RIght, it's quarter to midnight and I didn't get enough zzzs last night so I better be off, also I've got an eyelash in my eye so I have to deal with that.

10:36pm: Still kind of felt like my birthday because after archery this morning I went over to my parents place for our weekly lunch and my little bro was there too! I also purchased one of the Coles small mudcakes which proved to be very yummy indeed! Especially with the ice cream and strawberries Mum provided.

It was good to see the little bro, even though he is having trouble at his new place of employment, it's a small business and it seems he has two bosses so to speak, which makes it rather difficult if they give different instructions. Hopefully, it'll work out for him.

In other news, today's weather was pretty much a 180 from yesterday - cloudy, rainy and rather cool, although not that cool, I almost wore a long sleeve shirt, but at the last moment decided to put on a regular t-shirt, which proved to be a good idea since it was still like 24 degrees.

Today was another urban field shot, which is where the targets are set up in such a way that you have to shoot in very odd places, like in a bush, or up a step ladder or with one foot up on target that's lying down. It's rather fun, although I was doing the "easiest" peg - yellow and apparently because of my age I really should be doing blue or even red. However, I'm nowhere near as good as people in my age group typically are, I have shot the yellow peg before - but alas I could not beat my PB. I was also in a group with young kids and one of them beat me LOL. I did though get a very impressive 6 (the field archery equivalent of a 10) shooting in the bushes with tree branches blocking my sight. I took a photo, I should post that, although of course it was more a fluke then good aim.

After the field shoot, there was a Working Bee, which I did try to participate in, but since I was having lunch with the parentals I had to leave before the work really started going. Which I felt a bit bad about, so after the lunch with like two-thirds of the cake I headed back. They must have worked fast though because when I got there almost everyone had left! But the remaining people were happy to have some cake, because who wouldn't be :OP Also by this point the predicted showers were heading in so I headed off home to watch Dr Gluon on YouTube.

I figured I was done for the day, but an hour or so later Mum rang and asked me to take my long phone charger cable to Grandpa in the hospital. I had given Mum the phone cable yesterday to take to Grandpa, but he didn't think he needed it, but alas he did. So I headed out in my car and fortunately got a parking space in the side street near the hospital (because as I've mentioned they charge through the nose!), although by this point it was raining. I managed not to get wet and delivered the cable to Grandpa in good time. He's currently recovering in a shared room, but he was in good spirits. There was a lady in another room who Grandpa's pretty sure has dementia because she was yelling for the nurses to come, but then seemed to tell them off when they arrived. Poor lady.

Finally, in laptop related news, everything is running so much better now, including The Sims 4 and I'm now officially onto the Carrot Gen in the Very Veggie Legacy Challenge. Julien has moved to Chestnut Ridge (I finally remembered it's name!) and has his first horse, a little colt called Mayo Neighs (Dr Gluon had a horse with the same name and I couldn't resist). Him being a colt does mean Julien can't ride him yet, but hey I can work on it's temperament. Julien does need to earn money though - he did have some, but I had to get him a shower and the lot did already have some horse stuff on it. However, he's roughing it at the moment with just a sleeping bag and campfire.

Right, it's after 11 now, so I better go, I didn't get enough sleep last night, and I want to make sure I get the proper amount of zzzs.

10:04pm: For I am 42! For real, because I was born at 9:35pm and since it is now past that time, so yeah ask me anything. :OP

Moving along, it was an interesting birthday! Firstly I had my 3.5 hour desk shift at the library, which wasn't as bad as it sounds because today was hot as Hell - 42 degrees C and the library's air conditioning held up - although I guess my home air conditioning would have been better, but generally if I'm not doing the desk shift I'm at archery, which I wouldn't have wanted to do in that kind of heat. Although a few people showed up and even took part in the working bee! Braver souls than me. However, the temperature is set to drop overnight so I will be going tomorrow for an Urban Field shoot which is always interesting.

After work I headed home immediately to keep a low profile while it was hottest, where I busied myself getting the back of my laptop off so I could check out the fan situation. And let it be said, it was bad. There was so much dust on what I now know is the CPU fan it had hardened o.O I used an old toothbrush and managed to get the dust off and I gave the GPU fan a clean as well and after turning on the laptop with the back still off both fans came to life. I turned the laptop off and put the back back on and turned it back on and now both fans are going and the temperature of the laptop is now well within operating range and my games are no longer lagging, hooray!

That was a rather involved process and by the time I got everything back together it was pretty much time for church. It was still blistering hot outside and even with all the fans going in the church - along with a small fan that appeared in the music area of the church a few weeks back it was stiffling and I was sweating. The priest did take pity on us and kept his sermon short and we finished up 15 minutes early, by which point the temperature outside had dropped almost 10 degrees, which meant it was like 33 degrees and felt positively refreshing!

Now I mentioned yesterday that I was getting together with my friend, Lara, originally we were going to meet for lunch but in the end we met up for dinner, which was for the best, firstly because I somehow forgot what time I finished work so I wouldn't have been late and secondly because of the heat. We met up at 7pm after a quick Facebook Messenger video thing with my big bro and his family who wished me Happy Birthday! In contrast to here it was like 3 degrees C in Japan today. Brrrr.

We didn't end up meeting at the RSL either, instead we met at the parking lot next to the other church and walking down to the beach where we had a dinner - take out from a burger place. It was most yummy! I also had my last two cupcakes, although after burgers we were so full that we only had a fraction of each cupcake - although I've now finished one off. Lara cut off a bit with a fork so it's safe for me to eat :OP

Before eating the cupcakes we went for a short walk to the lagoon that's near the beach, I didn't want to do too much walking, but it's one of Lara's favourite things - in fact she somehow missed that today was going to be super hot and went for a long walk at a national park today! She was quite confused that the place was so quiet for the weekend, but didn't realise about the heat until much later on when she went to buy some more water. So remember kids, even if you don't watch the news, make sure to check the weather report!

So now I'm back home (I drove to the parking lot which I don't usually do, but with the weather turned out to be a good idea) playing some House Flipper 2 and watching YouTube, a very fine end to my birthday!

Before I head off though here's...

These questions were written by losseloth on LJ.

1. Do you have a favourite cause that you support? I donate every month to Amnesty International, which work for important causes of justice around the globe. Which is especially important in these trouble times.

2. If so, how do you support it? Er whoops, I kind of answered that above, but yes I donate $25 monthly. To my relief they seem to have stopped calling to ask for an increased donation amount (I got other bills to pay after all).

3. Have you been an active member of an organization (attending meetings, volunteering, etc)? I did join the Socialist Alliance when I was in University for about 2 seconds, I went to a meeting and decided it wasn't for me when they started talking about resisting police.

4. Have you ever led any group? Hahahaha, have you met me? That is not within my skill set, so Hell no.

5. If not, why, is it a conscious choice, of lack of opportunity? A conscious choice, I honestly can't see me ever leading anything, I'm just not that kind of person!

OK, on that note I shall be off!

11:45pm: And late update of journal - as usual.

But yes, tonight after work I came home on the bus and then got into my car and drove over to Mum and Dad's house where I went with them to the nearby Golf Club for dinner. My little bro was supposed to come as well, but alas he's started a new job and had to work back this evening, which was a bit of a bummer. On Mum's advice I did invite my new friend Lara along, but it was such short notice she couldn't make it, originally she said yes but it turned out she misunderstood and thought we were meeting up tomorrow. Which we actually will be, but for lunch rather than dinner.

I also purchased some yummy cupcakes in lieu of a cake, because I couldn't actually find any of a suitable size. My little bro mentioned that he actually knows quite a few people who have a birthday on 10th January, which is interesting because I don't know anyone! Except Rod Stewart who I obviously don't personally know.

Mum and I had a the kid's fish and chips at the Club and Dad had the special steak, everything was most delicious. Mum also order ice cream to go with the cupcakes, so that was yummy indeed! I had four cupcakes (they're quite large) which I figured we'd all have, but Mum and Dad shared a cupcake and since my little bro wasn't there I have two left so I'll share them Lara tomorrow at lunch.

OK, I better wrap this up as I have work tomorrow so need to get my zzzzs...I'll catch up on the Friday Five tomorrow.

Not a Fan..

Jan. 8th, 2026 11:39 pm
anonymoose_au: (Oh Bitch Bitch Bitch)
11:23pm: OK, it's past my bedtime and I gotta turn in, but I'm back in my apartment now with my Acer and I'm wondering if the overheating issue might be due to one of my computer fans not working. I've got this program on the laptop that shows what the fans are doing and while the GPU fan (I assume that one has something to do with graphics?) is spinning like a mad DJ at a club, but the CPU fan is apparently not going at all. This is a bit of a worry as I think I mentioned some time ago that there seemed to be something loose inside my laptop, like a screw or something that rattled around a bit. It's actually been like that for a while, I've even taken my laptop into the repair shop and they heard it as well, but didn't seem too concerned about it. Now though I wonder if it's got stuck in the CPU fan and that's why it's not turning.

In any case, I'm pretty sure it's a lack of cooling that's causing my lagging woes...that being the case I wonder if I should take my laptop to the Computer Repair place, I have tried to take the back off it myself, which famously almost caused me to kill my keyboard, but with some outstanding luck I managed to get the keyboard to start working again.

In other news, I've got to return half the library books I took out over the Christmas period because they're on reserve to other people, which is a bummer, especially because one of them is Dick Van Dyke's latest book...I was hoping to finish it tonight, but I can't read as fast as I used to, so suffice to say I have not managed that.

But yes, as I said it's past my bedtime so I must be off!

11:22pm: And also head to bed because I'm at the parental unit's and therefore have to leave earlier than usual so I can get home and drop my car off. I hope the Lite 'n' Easy comes otherwise I'll have to come back here after work tomorrow and I'd rather head home and continue tidying up the place.

Not much to report although my digestive system has been wonky this week which has caused issues on Monday and today - I felt icky enough today that I had to get off the bus on the way to work and as a result I was a bit late, not that it was a big deal or anything, but still not cool. I think maybe I've been eating too much sugar, I really need to cut back on the snacking.

In other news I'm debating on whether to wear my watch on my right wrist, because the rash on my left wrist is taking a while to clear up. I wonder if I can wear the Fitbit on clip, I used to have a pedometre that did that, but I think it's all about watches these days.

Finally, the weather is really heating up and it's predicted to get to 42 degrees C on Saturday - my birthday! Yikes! Fortunately I don't have to decide whether to go to archery or not because I'm working this Saturday, I sure hope the library air conditioner can handle the heat though... last time it broke down and as I heard it got rather uncomfortable.

Anyway, I better be off, as I said, bed calls!

11:22pm: Yes indeed, Christmas is over for another year - well slightly less than year - but anyway the point is I've taken the decorations done although not backed them all up yet. Which is a bit of a worry because I feel like Mum will want to see some photos of the apartmento when I go over tomorrow and it's certainly not looking as clean as I've previously advertised. I mean the kitchen was looking good, but that was a few days back.

Moving along, I've now freed up about 27Gb on the laptop, but House Flipper 2 still struggled today, I wonder if I've changed some setting and that's why it's struggling or maybe my laptop is running too hot, although I'm not sure why - we've had hotter days previous to this. Maybe there's dust in the vents? I guess I could take it to the computer shop across the road, but I'm not sure how much that would cost and I don't wanna drop too much dough.

Anywho, not much else to report - still working on the magazines, although tomorrow I think the Inter Library Loans delivery starts up again so I should probably put some books in box for return...

OK, so time is passing swiftly here and I have to get my butt to bed! First I need to fold my Christmas t-shirts so I can put them away so I better move it!

10:43pm: Well, damn, I did move out all my Screenhunter screenshots a few weeks back, along with my older Sims saves, but I've only got like 10Gb free on my laptop and according to the internet I need more than that - may 40Gb? I don't know if I can manage that but I'm going to have to do something because all my games are lagging like whoa, I could barely play American Truck Simulator.

I'm a bit confused also because according to Task Manager and if I'm reading it right (and possibly I'm not?) it seems to be indicating that I've got like 15 tabs open on Firefox, except...I don't? Maybe it's the number of processes it's using, not that I actually know what a process even means LOL.

Oh boo, I just realised I forgot to claim my Sims 4 reward for the Christmas event, I'm gonna run out of time. I guess I'll pop back in quickly before going to bed, that being the case I better get a hurry on.

So back to work today! It started off a bit unfortunately as it's that time o' the month and my guts were irritated this morning so I almost had a freak out on the bus. Luckily I was able to call Mum and make the trip. On arrival it was all hands on deck as we worked to clear the returns, as I mentioned the Library software set all the due dates a couple of days after re-opening so there wasn't as much panic as last year, plus the people who came in to clear the chutes put the items in the courier crates so at least the chute wasn't completely overflowing or anything. On the other hand, it seems there was a slight glitch and some patrons got emails saying items they'd returned long ago were no super overdue. Weird!

The magazines also came in today! Plus I was able to make a new vendor in the Library software so now I can re-add magazines that we're now getting from a different supplier. We haven't had the magazines delivered for like two weeks so there's a lot to go through!

So I had an hour of returning items in the morning and then I had a desk shift later in the afternoon, however I didn't get a chance to return many things because a lady who I helped just before Christmas was back. She's trying to get a new Indian passport on behalf of someone which is a very involved process which is a pain in the ass. Like I thought I'd helped her get everything done the last time, but apparently not. And even after helping her today it was still not correct? Since the lady was at the counter asking for help when I was heading home. I hope she won't be back again, because honestly I don't know what more can be done.

Whoops I've just noticed the time! I'm on the closing shift at work tomorrow so I can start a bit later, but still I better dash!

10:50pm: Well, that's not entirely accurate, I'm not going to have time to Sims 4 today which is a bummer, but I did have time I just got distracted by other stuff, namely "House Flipper 2, man that game is addictive and has so much customisation! After a while though, one does want to have simulated people who can enjoy all those houses you've fixed up.

And, I got distracted replying to Vic's messages and now it's nearly a quarter past 11 and with work starting up again tomorrow I gotta turn in. I wonder how tomorrow will go actually! The library tech team set our returns for a few days after all the branches re-open because in 2025 all items borrowed after the 20th December were all due back on the day we re-opened and it was insane! We couldn't keep up with the influx! I'm pretty sure one dude returned like 90 books in one go (you can have 30 items on each card, and he had three kids), so yeah.

In other news, archery did not go so well today although I did have fun. Maybe I should go in for trick shots...during the first practice end I somehow managed to shoot an arrow which landed in the wood on top of the target sideways! Someone took a photo of it it was so weird LMAO. I've also done other weird shots like shooting through the flag underneath the target that marks out distance and shooting between the target face and the wood of the target stand thing, shakes head.

Righto, so I'm gonna wrap it up here since I wanna get all the zzzs in that I can.

11:14pm: It always comes up so fast! I should try and do something with my friends - although I do have work that day and I help my parents out at church so the actual day might be difficult... I could invite everyone to come to archery, but I'm not sure I'd want an audience! After having some success with the 40 m target on New Year's Day, it was quite the disaster today - I mean, my total score for three rounds was pretty much the same as other people's one round. I mean it was an 80cm target rather than 122cm one, so that also had an impact, but still.

Ah well, the same shoot is on tomorrow (and it's also the shoot we'll do for the first competition of the year) so I'll have to see if I can' improve. It doesn't help that my sight is missing a screw so the actual sight bit - called the pin - doesn't stay in place. The reason one would want their pin not to straight and level escapes me so it's rather annoying there was a screw to do this. I have no idea how to get a new screw though, so I might be looking at purchasing a new sight - I did get this one for free though, so I guess it works out.

Right, it's getting late and I still have some stuff to do - although my last two replies to Vic will have to wait (sorry about that Vic!).

11:07pm: OK that's not the most positive subject heading, but when I woke up this morning I discovered a rash on my left wrist, which I noticed because my fit bit wasn't on. I must have removed it during the night and not noticed. I was rather confused because I've been wearing this particular Fitbit for a month now (not all the time obviously, I take it off when I shower) and another Fitbit before that and this hasn't happened before. Dr Google says it's contact dermatitis though and that I should keep the watch off until the rash goes away. Oh and clean it, which er I haven't done - I mean it didn't look dirty - if it had I would have cleaned it, obviously. Plus as I said this hasn't happened before. Still I wonder if I should see about buying a fabric strap since apparently they're less likely to cause issues.

Apart from that not much else to report - I've been playing House Flipper 2 almost obsessively, LOL, I also played Sims 4 though and the Carrot Gen is officially ready to go. As mentioned I'm planning to do alternate between boy-girl through the generations, although Carrotlyn who has grown into a teen is dang adorable. On the otherhand Julien is also cute LOL.

In other news, it's raining, which will hopefully stop by tomorrow morning because as always Archery is on and I've signed up. Also, my new sneakers suck in wet weather as I mentioned in a previous entry, I think. I don't want to wear my good sneakers though so hmmm.

Time is getting on, so I'll just meme and run...

These questions were written by tabular_rasa on LJ.

1. Do you mostly drink tap, filtered, or bottled water? Tap, I do put it in a jug that has room for a filter, but don't actually use it because I can't be bothered and our water is thankfully safe in Australia :O)

2. Is it safe/recommended to drink tap water where you live? If not, why? Indeed it is! And since fluroide is added to the water it's a good idea in order to get the benefits of that for your teeth.

3. What does the tap water taste/smell like where you live? Well, my sense of smell sucks - it seems to have reverted back to normal after the smelly buses incident, but I'm pretty sure the generally Aussie water doesn't smell like anything, at least as far as I can tell.

4. Do you collect rainwater? If so, what do you use it for? Nope, I'm not sure the apartment does, but I don't think so which is a shame. We could use it for the gardens here. Not that our gardens are very big, but every little bit of water recycling helps!

5. Do you/have you ever had restrictions on water use where you live? What did you have to change about your lifestyle? Actually yes! Back in 1999 the health department found crytospiridum in Sydney's water supply and for a month or so we had to boil any water we planned to drink - even when we brushed our teeth. Although I've just realised this question is probably referring to restrictions due to drought and such, and we've had those in place for decades really. As a general rule, no hosing pavements and watering gardens should happen in the morning or afternoon. I'm not actually sure if they're as strict as they used to be, but they're generally followed.

Right, I better be off now, bed calls!

11:42pm: Yep, a few hours ago the whole world officially entered 2026 - and Dr Gluon of streaming fame greeted every one of them! I'm not sure how he managed it, but he was awake for 24 hours plus, which is pretty nuts.

As for me, after waking up to a rather rainy day, I decided to brave the weather for the Archery event, called the Resolution Climb, where we started shooting from 10 metres aaalll the way down to 90 metres. Because I procrastinated about going though I arrived rather late and missed out on the group photo because I was setting up my bow. Bummer.

It was kind of ambitious of me to enter because I struggle to hit the target at 40 metres - although today I actually shot a great end at that distance! Hopefully this will lead to a breakthrough, I've been trying to get a decent score at that for aaages. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens.

And, I've just noticed the time, whoops! I'll have to forego the Friday Five so I get to bed before midnight, or at least just after midnight, LOL.

Hmm, there was something else I was going to say but I've forgotten what it was now...hmm... well I got to put up my 2026 Pusheen Calendar on the fridge so that was cool.

On that note, I shall be off!

New Year

11:20pm: Indeed it is and I thought I better update now before the New Year actually hits because I won't have time to do so after the clock strikes midnight because I need to get to bed once the clock strikes 12 because I'm going to a special Archery event tomorrow morning. Also I managed to somehow wake up at about 4:30am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep, which really sucked...although I don't seem to be tired yet, but those could well be famous last words :OP

Anyway in the absence of my big bro and family I'm here at the parental abode watching Dr Gluon's New Year's Stream and the Syd Squad guys - although I can only actually listen to one of them. I was watching the Syd Squad Team on the big TV here for the 9pm fireworks, which you could indeed see quite well from the airport, good times.

Although I did miss Gluon ringing in the New Year for New Zealand because I had to go and pick Mum and her friend up after they went on the ferry to see the 9pm fireworks. Mum did invite me along, but it cost like $150 to go and also I'm not big on small boats so I decided not to go. She and her friend had a really great time, although the public transport in Manly proved to be a total ass, which is why I had to go and get them. Sadly in my haste to get there I broke the strap of my Pusheen purse :O( I'm not sure if it can be fixed though, because it's made out of PVC and the bootmaker guy might think it's not worth it or maybe they can't actually repair PVC.

I guess I have time for one Friday Five, I think I might not be as far behind as I feared.

The Friday Five

26/12/25

1. You have the summer and plenty of money to travel abroad. Where all would you go? Well, I've always wanted to go to the US, but I sure as Hell won't be doing so while a certain Orange Thing is there, so I think I'll go to Japan to hang out with the big bro and his family and maybe also check Malta and Italy.

2. What foods would you be sure you got to eat? While travelling? Well some good cheddar cheese, LOL... I guess you mean food from the countries I plan to visit. I have to admit I have a very narrow palate so...I might give some of the less adventerous foods a go, but no raw octopus or whatever LOL.

3. What landmarks would you be sure you got to see? Definitely St Peter's, the Leaning Tower and Venice and in Japan I want to check out the toilet museum LOL.

4. What airline would you use? Well, either though it doesn't have the best reputation it used to, I'd go Qantas.

5. Would your knowledge of other languages influence where you went? (i.e., would you be more likely to go to France if you spoke French?) I probably would, but alas I have no talent in other languages, so N/A.

OK, less than 20 minutes to go now, so I'll be off!

See you in 2026!

10:59pm: Yes! The Ice Rink has re-opened after being closed for many months for renovations - which is kind of weird because I swear they only did renovations only a few years back. However this time they've changed the whole inside seating areas and have also erected plastic glass barriers around the rink since it is where ice hockey is played. This though had an unfortunate consequence, the top of the barrier can barely be held onto now, fortunately I got back into the swing of skating pretty quickly, but for people who are just starting out this seems like a mistake, like the plastic was installed too far forward so the back side has enough room to hold onto easily.

Anywho, it was great to go ice skating again except for the fact I always wonder whether or not it's a good idea to use my orthodics in my skates. My podiatrist says I should and my feet do feel steadier, but unfortunately it also pushes my feet forward so that my toes are right up against the end of the skate and it gets more than a little uncomfortable. Maybe I can stick something in the toes? I dunno.

There was one other issue that had nothing to do with skating - part of the reason for me going to the rink is to catch the Metro (aka the train), however as so often happens, the trains were replaced by buses. So I didn't get a chance to do my exposure therapy. Also the bus on the way back was super late and then it smelt really weird...as did the other bus I took from Chatswood. I wonder if the icy air of the rink cleared my sinuses or something, because usually my sense of smell is MIA. It was a bad time for it to return I can tell you that much.

In other news I also visited Grandpa briefly before going to the rink, he was still in the shared room, but I got a message in the Family Chat later that a single room has been found for him and he now has a really nice view of the ocean. Which is good since he might be stuck there for two weeks. I also had to park in the hospital parking lot, and man do they like to charge through the nose for that, which seems really rude.

On another note, I've got a headache, which might have been from the smelly buses or maybe I didn't drink enough water today? Not sure if it's too late for my to take something for it, probably not, I should get onto that.

Lastly, I did play some more of House Flipper 2, I turned off the motion blur but I still felt a little weird while playing it - but not so much that I didn't almost go over the time limit to return it, LOL. I think I'll keep it, although I wonder if I can return the other game I bought bundled with it? They show up separately on my Steam account but I'm not sure.

Right, I better get going, tomorrow is New Year's Eve and I want to be fully rested although staying up past midnight is de rigeur for me these days.

I'll get back to the Friday Five next time.
