11:19pm: M died :O( which was extremely sad, although by the end she was very unwell with Parkinsons and was having these terrible seizures. Still...I miss her and our Canasta games.

It's also the anniversary of the terrible events in Israel that has lead to the latest mess in the Middle East, so yeah...

Today was a public holiday though for Labour Day (and also helpful to get over the Daylight Saving change) and I did actually consider going ice skating, but instead I was super lazy and spent basically the whole day watching James Turner's Sims 4 Every Life Stage Challenge. Which was complete chaos and craziness of course XD There's still one video to go, but yeah I've got to get my butt to bed.

In other news, the cross stitch continues on, although I've realised that the Pusheen gray fur colour in the Pusheen Christmas Cross Stitch box is noticibly darker than the gray I was using before. I thought I got the right colour (I actually ran out of the gray since Pusheen is so rotund so I had to buy one, which I thought match the gray colour, but I can't really say. I think the original Pusheen Cross Stitch box had lighter colours anyway. Weird)

Anyway, not much else to report, which is good since it's 20 minutes to midnight and I need to get enough zzzs!

And I still haven't caught up on the Friday Five, or done any fanfic writing - shakes head - on the plus side Ghosts Season 4 is starting in the coming week, eeee! Which hopefully will mean more fan like discussions with my fellow Ghosties.

For now though, goodnight!

11:06pm: I keep thinking that it's Friday - although earlier today I thought it was Wednesday (because a colleague of mine who usually has Tuesdays off, also took Wednesday off), but it's not! It's Thursday and I've got work tomorrow so I need to make this quick! Although, as it happens, even if it was Friday, it's my Saturday shift this week so I'd still need to go to bed early, LOL.

Anywho, moving right along...hmmm...I though I had something of interest to say, but I don't...I do have some plot ideas in mind for the McFly July prompts, but as they say the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. On the plus side though, my right thumb isn't sore anymore, so thank God for that!

Oh wait, I do remember...I restarted for like the sixth time Hill Valley in Cities Skylines, I had a good thing going with my current save, when it occurred to me that I totally messed up the highways, so I fixed that and while I was at it I added a waterfall to the map. Would Hill Valley actually have a waterfall somewhere? I always thought so, so there it goes.

I'm watching the ABC news, and I'm reminded of something else, some crazy dude popped open the emergency exit on a plane that just landed, jumped onto the wing and slid down the engine before trying to make a break for it, only to be detained by some ground crew. Yikes...talk about weird? Originally I heard it was before take-off so I figured maybe the guy had a massive panic attack or something, but if they've landed... And if he sneaked onto the plane at the departure airport that still doesn't make sense, because having taken some domestic flights recently they're a bit lax with checking your ID. At any rate the guy is in big trouble now!

Also sad news in the penguin world - one pair of the famous gay penguin couple Sphen died, leaving his partner penguin, Magic and their adopted chicks on their own (although I think both chicks are pretty much grown). Apparently, that type of penguin mates for life, so Magic's pretty bummed.

On that note, though I better go, I think I've been lacking in the sleep department so I should try and catch up on that, or at least go to bed before midnight!

Goodnight all!

11:03pm: Alas, yes, it's back again, I think it must be my lack of sleep, which means updating this at past 11pm is a poor idea, LOL. Although it is Friday, so at least I don't have to wake up early tomorrow.

So...I thought I had something to say about today, but I honestly can't recall what it could be right now... Oh wait, there was a huge worldwide crash of computers this afternoon (Aussie time). Apparently, and somewhat ironically the software that many computers use for security purposes had a bad update or something and made pretty much every computer that has said software crash. Fortunately, the circulation computers in the library restarted OK, but the public PCs were down for the count, also my computer didn't restart, which was a relief because I had a document on there that I hadn't saved!

Oh yeah, I just remembered what I was gonna bitch about in this entry, apart from the headache, I think I burnt my lip on my hot chocolate this morning...there's like a red spot on it and when I smile it rather hurts. Which certainly sucks...although mouth injuries are known for healing quickly, so I'm hopeful I"ll be good for tomorrow.

And finally before the meme, they finally opened the fruit and vegetable supermarket at the Mall, gotta say I'm surprised! I kid you not, it's been like three years since the old fruit and vegetable supermarket closed down just before COVID. Of interest there's a special donut shop in there! I haven't actually heard of it before it's called L.A Donuts, but it's based in Australia not the US. Anywho, I decided to partake in one today, I got a chocolate iced glazed one, it was quite large and I figured I'd have like half at work and bring the rest home, but nope...ate the whole thing, LOL. To quote the great Homer Simpson "Mmmm...donuts".

Now, the Meme!

The Friday Five

22/03/24

1. What is your native language?> English

2. Do you speak any other languages? Which ones? Nay, I'm trying to pick up a bit of Russian and Japanese via Duolingo, but it's slow going at best.

3. How difficult is it for you to learn or understand new languages? Supremely. This is an Aussie problem, we didn't even start learning a different language until Year 6, i.e age 12, a bit too late. I mean, obviously other Aussies have learnt to speak another language, my mother can speak French and my brother Japanese, but alas I did not.

4. If you were going to study a new foreign language, which would you want to learn? Well, I'm already working on two! But if I had to change another, I suppose Italian.

5. How are you at reading subtitles in foreign films? Quite well! Except for this one time they picked the wrong colour and it was almost impossible to read, LOL.

OK, goodnight!

9:11pm: Heh, I'm actually updating this on my mobile phone in the hotel room I'm sharing with my parental units. I do have my tablet with me, but my charger is letting me down, the battery is low and I haven't got a cable long enough to use it. I'll have to look into that before we head off to Fiji.

So tomorrow I'll be heading home on the train, it'll take about an hour and a half to get back to the centre of Sydney and I have another hour and a half to get back to the north side and work.

I've started working on the McFly July prompts, getting one done before my tablet's battery fell into the danger zone. I might try posting that one tomorrow, see how the battery holds up if I leave it plugged in tonight.

In other news, someone actually tried to assassinate Donald Trump today! Yikes... He wasn't seriously hurt, but someone else was killed and two other people at the rally were injured. The shooter was also killed. It's all kinds of bizarre, like I'm not fan of the Orange Man, but actually taking a shot at him? It's a strange place in the US, there were people on the news wondering how someone even had the ability to take a shot at a former president. Well geeze guys, maybe the whole easy access to guns might have something to do with it? Although I suppose the shooter shouldn't have been able to get so close, but he wasn't AT the event so he didn't need to go through metal detectors or anything.

It was a bit alarming that apparently people saw the guy up there and tried to earn the cops on scene, and the cops apparently didn't do anything until shots were fired.

Anyway, the US election looks like it's gonna be a bad time... Not looking forward to the outcome of that.

The curse of "May you live in interesting times" is definitely holding true. Although, as a follow up to mentioning the various elections going down, the French one has turned out to be less of a shitshow than feared. So there's that at least.

Well, Le Tour continues and it's on TV (fortunately Mum watches it), so time to enoy that.

Goodnight!
anonymoose_au: (Tour De France Jeeves)
11:10pm: Yes indeed, it's been nearly a month since my last update! I've really been letting my Dreamwidth down haven't I? It's not as if nothing's been going on, in fact I've been quite busy with extra shifts from the library and caught up with some old friends. Actually, this weekend I'll be catching up with more old friends Edith and Elva from high school! (It's interesting because I always mixed up their names even though I knew who I was talking to in my brain, my mouth would say the wrong name - the ass) Elva lives overseas now so this is quite an occasion! In fact I'm taking the day off work this Sunday for it. I'm very relieved I can do that actually because apparently the actual rule at work is you need to give 10 days notice to take leave (even if it's just for one day), that seems like BS, I mean not everything gets planned weeks in advance.

Speaking of work, it's getting a bit alarming just how many people have left or been transferred to another library in the system. The staff area down the back is practically empty these days, yet I remain without a permanent job. In fact, one of the staff they hired externally has just gone off on a month long holiday the second they got hired. In what world does that make sense? This person better have a lot of experience - although they're still going to need to learn the new system, which I'd liked to point out I don't need to do. Grumble, grumble.

Moving on, how epic was the rescue of the Thai Boys from the cave?! I can't believe they all made it! When I first heard about it on the news I didn't have much hope at all, but everyone banded together and got them out, a good news story for sure. :O)

Sadly, there's also very distressing news...last Thursday a very popular figure skater Denis Ten from Kazhistan (the first to win a medal at the Olympics - a Bronze back in 2014) was murdered in a robbery. I followed him on Instagram and the whole thing is still a terrible shock, very upsetting and surreal. His last post was only a short time before his death and it was very sad to see it there in the Instagram stories until it disappeared. I wasn't like a huge fan or anything, but the whole thing is just totally messed up (the robbers were trying to steal his car mirrors, who kills someone over that?!) and a total waste. :O(

In happy news, it's now just one week until my parents return! Actually less than one week since they'll be home next Tuesday in the late morning. I'm looking forward to seeing them, it's been like three months an I'm sure they'll have lots of stories and whatnot. Although I have to clean my father's car because it's been parked in their carport this whole time - except for the few times I've taken it out to keep it's battery going - and it's got all dusty and salty.

Right, it's getting late so I should head off - I've been watching Le Tour De France while I'm typing this and a guy just rode off the road and into a ravine! Thankfully he's OK, but geeze that was a shock. Also...this is the same route where 23 years ago a cyclist in the race died, seems a poor choice of route honestly.

OK, I'm going to wrap this up because I do need to get my shut eye.

Goodnight all!

11:09pm: Which usually means I have to restart my laptop because I've tried going into the settings when this sort of thing happens, but I haven't been able to figure out what the deal is.

Anyway! I have exciting news! I finally did it! I went to the Aquarium shop in Manly where Dad used to buy his betta fish and got a nice greenish one whom I have called Fishenko. He's swimming around happily in my tank as I type. I am a bit worried that the heater and thermometre I put in there will start floating around, they've got suction cups on them but they don't seem to be suctioning like they're supposed to. Very rude.

Moving along, what else to report? Not much...I did finally remember to call the podiatrist and make an appointment, it's for Thursday at 11:30. Hopefully any issue with my orthodics will be fixed there, since like I said I feel like they might need to be readjusted, although my hips feel better now, yay!

Beyond that...not much going on in Mooseland, tomorrow though I need to apply to some jobs, because Mum's getting on my case about that and if I'm ever going to live in the apartment I'm planning to spend decades paying off I need the dough! I may have left applying for the secretary one a bit too late though...because I suck like that.

Annnd I was meant to do some Memes...but the mouse issue makes that a pain in the ass and it's a bit late to start on any right now, so I'm gonna do the lazy thing and skip it.

Oh and in closing, I'd like to thank the people of France for not fucking themselves over and electing the crazy ass right-winger. Although as I understand the guy who won doesn't actually represent a party...which seems to be quite the oversight when he has to fill 500 positions! How's this gonna work, seriously? France's political system does confuse.

Right, I shall be off now! Goodnight all!

11:16pm: So the first round of elections has happened in France, which leads me to wonder...why are there more than one round of elections?! Sounds like a tremedous pain in the ass. And voting's not even compulsory over there, so I wonder what the turn out for the polls are like.

Anyway, the moderate guy and the far right lady have got through...France better not fuck this shit up. Sweden managed not to let us down, so I hope they don't either, because there's really enough shit going on right now. Just the other day I heard that North Korea had said they could deploy a missile here to Australia?! WTF?

Moving along, not a lot to report, although that time o' the month is swiftly approaching and my knee is killing me because it's an ass. I've also been super clumsy, so embarrassing. Honestly, why is this still a thing that happens? It's been like 20 years.

(And now I feel old o.O)

What else...I dunno, I had a library shift this afternoon, which I was like five minutes late for because I popped into the pet shop to get a new filter insert thing, unfortunately said pet shop didn't have the filter in stock. Do'h! Oh well, five minutes lateness doesn't seem to be too terrible, but I really need to pick up my game there.

I was also supposed to call the agent about getting a 6 months lease and paying slightly more rent, but I totally forgot and now I can't do it until Wednesday because tomorrow is ANZAC Day and thus a public holiday.

Anyway, my brain sucks right now, so I'm gonna wrap this up here, I hope to be more coherent tomorrow!

11:25pm: Apparently today is Stephen Hawking's 75th Birthday! That's pretty amazing, especially when you consider that on receiving his diagnosis all those years ago he was given like 6 months to live or something like that. That's kicking the odds in the face! You go, Professor Hawking!

In other great news, I took my External Harddrive to the computer shop in Collaroy and he was able to take the case apart and put it in a different case with a little attachment thing that works. Hooray! It cost me $50 but this is considerably cheaper than having to do specialist type data retrieval. Plus I don't need to buy a whole new drive to back stuff up to. Yaaay!

And more good news there was a Fast 4 Tennis tournament tonight, it was Australia vs the World and we won! :OP Although we were represented by Nick Kygrios and Bernard Tomic otherwise known as the two biggest jerks in tennis! Although their behaviour was OK this tournament so perhaps they've finally taken up the advice to see sports psychologist. Although I didn't actually watch Kygrios but that's what my friend said over Facebook messenger.

And lastly...a new ep of Air Crash Investigation is on right now, sweeet! Although, I shouldn't stay up too late to watch it all, there's work tomorrow after all.

But before I turn in let's have a Meme

Sunday Stealing

24/09/2016

: The "Doing Questions Like It's 2003" Meme"

1. Tell us about your pets. If you don’t have one, share why you don’t. I have a Siamese Fighting Fish called Plushenko. He's a beautiful teal and black and he lives in a nice 16L tank on my cabinet. I was a bit worried about him when I got home after work today, he seemed a bit listless, but he seems better now. Phew! (My previous four fish died in quick succession, it was rather sad)

2. Name three things that are close to you. Like literally? My mobile phone, a block of Cadbury chocolate and a book about overcoming anxiety issues.

3. How was the weather for your summer? We're still in summer and so far it's been quite warm indeed.

4. What was the last film you saw? Did you like it? It was the new Ghostbusters film at my friend's house and I liked it a lot!

5. Tell us about the last trip that you took. Uh...it was ages ago back at the end of 2014 when I to Bathurst to get my Masters in Information Studies. My parents came along too, although they went a day earlier and I met them in Lithgow after coming in on the train.

6. Where do you buy groceries? Why? Usually from Warriewood Square, especially since an Aldi opened over there. As for why, it's the closest shops to me!

7. Tell us something that you did today. Or will do if you haven’t had your morning coffee yet. I don't drink coffee :OP And today I went to the gym, good times.

8. Have you pulled an all-nighter? Not intentionally, once I couldn't get to sleep at all because I read the prologue of the Jaws novelisation and it scared the Hell outta me!

9. Can you taste the difference between Pepsi & Coke? Don't drink either.

10. Tell us about your siblings. How many and what do they do? I have two brothers, one older and one younger. The eldest lives in Japan with his wife and baby daughter and he works in the legal department of a bank I think? My younger brother lives a few suburbs away, but we don't see him much and he works at a warehouse.

11. What’s the oldest thing that you own? Well, I do have a vest from my mother which she sewed herself back in the 70s, so I'm gonna say that.

And I gotta run now, it's actually past midnight, but I was trying to do my Russian so um, let's just pretend it isn't. :OP (Still Happy Birthday to me! :OD)

Oh Shit...

Mar. 7th, 2016 11:19 pm
anonymoose_au: (Whoops)
10:48pm: I totally forgot Australia's Got Talent was on tonight! I thought I was missing something, but I couldn't think what. Well that was pretty dumb. I can't even use the app to watch it on my Samsung Blu-Ray because for some reason that app isn't available on it. Rude! So I've installed it on my phone, although I'm not sure it'll work.

Or maybe I won't because it apparently wants you to sign in before you can even use it. Also rude! You don't have to do that with any of the other TV apps.

And you have to do it on the website too! o.O How rude I don't want Channel 9 all up in my business. And to top it off it's not actually up anyway. Maybe I'll just watch the clips on Facebook. To be honest, I'm surprised there hasn't be complaints about this having to sign up sheninigans.

In other news, I was surprised to hear the Nancy Reagan died today! Which answers my musings about whether she's alive or not. Turns out she was.

Moving on, I was going to go to the gym today, but I realised while I was there at Mrs S's that until further notice the pool has only one lane open, so I figured it'd be hard to actually swim, so I decided to put it off until tomorrow. Although I did go to that swim school after work and found out that they do have public swim sessions, but alas it's an 8 dollar flat rate, no special for going to ten sessions or anything. Which means a weeks worth of swimming will cost me $16. So unless I can join a gym for $3 a week I'll be out of pocket. Even if I take into account petrol.

Anyway, once again I've managed to run out of time to do memes, OMG me get with the program! Although at least I did my Russian.

Lastly, the Red Cross keeps trying to call me, no doubt to see about upping my monthly donation, but they keep calling at the worst times - like when I'm driving or at work! (Although in their defense I did stay an hour later than usual today). Beyond that I'm not planning on upping my donation anyway, my budget is tight. I wonder if there's some way to let them know this without having to wait for them to call again.

I guess I'll have to wonder...because now I'm off to bed!

8:31pm: Well, that's the aim for tonight because I have to get up at 6am so I can get to the train station on time - gulp! I did manage to get on a train today and not freak out (knock on wood), so fingers crossed I can keep it together tomorrow.

However, this morning I woke up, even though I went to bed close to 1am, at 7:30am! I don't know why, the sun is quite bright in the mornings, maybe I should close the slats in the window.

Anyway, not much to report, except my right ankle is sore today from when I twisted it yesterday, ow! I'm a little worried to be honest, I'm going to be wearing heels on Wednesday. Although, I guess that's still another day away.

Oh dear...I'm feeling rather nervous about tomorrow, I'm trying to stay positive, not dwell too much on my anxiety, especially with what happened this morning in the city, some man has taken hostages in a cafe in the city! Some of the hostages have either been released or have got away, but last I heard 20 or so people are still in that cafe and have been since 9:40 or so this morning. Details are still pretty sketchy, for example what the guy wants, but the police seem to have the situation under control.

Now...I was going to do more Memes, but I don't know, should I finish up my cover letter for the Collection Management company? The job closes on Friday - I'll be back by then, I shouldn't leave things to the last minute though.

Also, as I said I do need to head to bed quite soon.

And this is a particularly good batch if I do say so myself :OD Although I'm slightly concerned about the small teaspoon of salt I put in, or rather the type of salt, I didn't realise it was quite so gradulated, I really should be putting fine grains in there, especially since I don't have proper beaters right now. I think it'll be OK though.

In other news, today is Nelson Mandela's 94th birthday! Happy Birthday to a great man! :O)

And Le Tour is back, they're going into the Pyrennes now and I just saw the strangest markings on the road, I swear it was a whole bunch of sperm. Honestly, the French.

10:11pm: Well, alas all my RPG buddies got a life and thus weren't on at all this afternoon and evening, so I hardly had a thing to do.

On the plus side I could devote all my attention to the new Midsomer Murders with the new DCI Barnaby! Good ep tonight! Although the original Barnaby will always be the best. ;O)

Also! I had the good news when I woke up this morning I saw that Cadel Evans has won Le Tour de France! First Australia ever to do so, whoo! :OD Today is the final stage, but by gentleman's agreement they don't challenge the leader. This means they cyclists get to enjoy some champagne and toast their success. Ah, you crazy French.

8:22pm: So the scientists have began their tests with that big machine...thingie, and we're all still here, so no need to worry about the black holes and whatnot. However, it appears according to the experiment, the Big Bang occurred when two particle beams of light hit each other. If this is so, then where the Hell did those beams come from?

So I'm watching this Medical Stories program and there's this dude on it whose broken his leg so bad it's actually facing the wrong way! OMG WTF? How does that even work? Watching stuff like that makes my person hurt!

Before that was the Crash Unit Investigators about a horrible car accident where this learner driver mounted the curb and knocked down a whole group of people. Anywho, the learner driver was charged with neg driving causing death, but the guy who was teaching her set the accident off by grabbing the wheel (apparently he thought she was taking the corner too wide). Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a totally fucked up thing to do? Not to mention illegal? That's weak.

Anywho, I'm gonna go play Sims 2 now, so here's the meme:

Wednesday Weirdness

18/6/08 (Hey, that's [livejournal.com profile] teh_ho's birthday)

1. Have you ever ridden in a stolen car? What would you do if, in the middle of going somewhere, found out that the driver had stolen the car you were riding in?

Hell no! And if I found out I was in a stolen car...uh...I'd freak out quite a bit and want to get the Hell out of there. If it was a close friend I'd ask them what the Hell they thought they were doing! Cripes!

2. What is the most amount of money you've spent in a sex shop or porn store at one time? If you've never been to a porn store or sex shop, why?

N/A. I once joked at about applying for a job in an adult store, if for no other reason than to freak out customers - I mean you couldn't find anyone less likely to work in an adult store than me!

3. What is the most annoying thing about one of your closest friends?

Their pacing, it really is pretty dang annoying, it also makes me dizzy.

4. Have you ever taken someone's prescription medication with or without them knowing and used it for recreational purposes?

No, but I have taken medicine not prescribed to me...I don't recommend it, frankly.

5. What is at least one thing you are you insecure about?

My prospects in this job, gulp!

6. What are some things that you prefer to do alone?

Errr...dunno, surf the net, I suppose.

7. How would you react if you found out the anonymous babe who writes all your favorite sexy posts on her blog is really your mother?

Be completely and utterly grossed out, then stop visiting said blog because eww...

OK, right, gotta haul ass otherwise I won't have a chance to play any Sims 2.

9:29pm: STILL at parents' house because I have an early appointment at the doctor's tomorrow, hopefully I'll get some of my tests back, if not maybe I can cancel it because those things cost money.

Anywho, with regards to the title of the post, towards the end of the work day today, the Boss and I were working on an email when the phone rang. My boss got it, since he was the closet to it and it turned out to be a telemarketer, trying to sell us printing products or something...He asked her to get to the point (since we are looking for new printers at present), but telemarketers aren't good at that it seems, so he hung up.

A minute later the phone rang again, and it was the same telemarketer (maybe she thoought the phone dropped out?), so the Boss was more upfront in not been interested and hung up again.

A second later the phone rings again and its the telemarketer! She's all, "It's rude to hang up on me, you know?" To which my boss hung up and fortunately there was no more calls from her. Seriously, though, WTF? Everyone hangs up on telemarketers these days, you kind of have to because the damn people have stopped taking no for an answer. Who calls back? I guess she must have had a shitty day or something, but seriously, my Boss is a busy guy, he has no time for your speils on printer products.

In other news, there's a very sad event occurring in the suburb of Pittwater, some days ago, a baby whale appeared, apparently abandoned by its mother. He's been given the name 'Colin', weird one for a whale...

Anywho, for days this poor whale has been trying to suckle boats, and it's basically starving to death! There's been all sorts of experts consulted, but we don't have the facilites to really care for him properly, so tonight they announced they'd be putting him down. Which is just awful, but probably a lot nicer than letting him starve. Still it totally sucks they couldn't get him back out to sea to hook up with another pod of whales. Poor Colin.

Memes, please )

I also have to say, spare a prayer for the 19 survivors and the victims families in that plane crash in Spain, pretty terrible stuff :O( Spain won a gold medal in the sailing today, obviously the two competitors didn't know about the accident at the time, still the replay was poignant with the flag going up and the anthem and all.

In less depressing tales, how 'bout that Usain Bolt guy? He saw those world records and said "You're mine!" He really had to try for the 200m record though, in the 100m he was all "Hey look at me!" for the last few metres, which was funny if not a bit of a worry for the other runners who were running their asses off.

However, I don't appreciate the fact that Ch 7 has shown nothing but heats of 1500m for the last half hour. I mean it's not even the main event, why do I want to watch this? If you gonna show something from track and field at least do the Javlin or something. Lame.

Well, gotta get to bed now. Without my new flash fic, whoops...oh well, you cannot force the muse.

Goodnight to you all.

11:14pm: And ZOMG! Look at the time, it's a hell of a lot later than I thought, so much for getting enough sleep because I'm at my parents' place...

Well, anyway, I'll make this quick - today I took the afternoon off so I could go into the city and see Pope Benedict's boat-a-cade and them motorcade (complete with Pope Mobile).

I didn't get primo seats for the boat-a-cade, but I got a pretty good view, although I couldn't spot him on the boat. I took a video anyway, once I upload it to my computer I might be able to spot him. :O)

Then I went to view the motorcade, unfortunately I didn't think about how long it might be...I figured about half an hour...As it turned out, it was more like two!

He did come by in the Pope Mobile though, which has a numberplate! (Better not rob a Bank in that one, LOL, easy to spot) However, I'm still not sure how to work the Boss's camera and I decided rather than try and take a picture, I'd film it. I got it to record, but it only did so for 10 seconds, just enough time to catch just about everyone in the motorcade except for the Pope himself, do'h!

I decided all was not lost though, there was still a chance to catch him later on in the motorcade up on Elizabeth St. So off I headed!

I got there in time, but alas, there were so many people there I couldn't get my camera to focus, so once again I saw the Pope pass by, but no pictorial evidence.

Although, one of the pilgrims had a good video camera and took lots of footage of the main event, so hopefully Dad will be able to upload that somewhere...good stuff.

Hopefully the Sydney Morning Hearld will have good photos of the boat-a/motorcade tomorrow, but as for now...bed calls!

I shall Meme tomorrow.

Goodnight to you all.

11:42pm: I just realised that I forgot to update...which is what I'm doing now.

Mum's laptop continues to refuse to connect to the net unless I plug it directly into the wireless modem, what's with that? Most irritating.

Anywho, I dare say my cold may be clearing up, I felt pretty ordinary this afternoon, especially when I walked to Church (I thought some fresh air would do me good), but not long after taking Communion I felt a whole lot better. Coincidence? Or God working in mysterious ways?

Either way I'm sure glad my nose has stopped running because it's sore as Hell and the last thing I want to have to do is blow it. Maaaan.

I miss my laptop, but alas it remains in my apartment and I won't be seeing it until Monday night (doesn't seem much point in returning to Newtown tomorrow just so I can turn around and come back here for work). Also, I get the feeling I missed the show on C&I Network about the compulsive hoarders, which is a bit of a blow, I wanted to see how that went down.

So I'm watching the birthday concert for Nelson Mandela, who's birthday is actually 12th July, but whatever...I even sent a birthday SMS to the website, but my unique code is not working, so I can't see it, lame. Well, the proceeds from the cost of the message go to one of his charities, so hey at least I'm doing something there.

I'm gonna turn in soon, but before that - Memes!

FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Apparently I'm running one week behind on this meme, whoops!

Q1 - Leader: Despite perceptions that the nation is losing its competitive edge, the United States remains the dominant leader in science and technology worldwide, according to a RAND Corporation study issued a last week. The United States, says RAND, accounts for 40% of the total world's spending on scientific research and development, employs 70% of the world's Nobel Prize winners, and is home to three-quarters of the world's top 40 universities. Two questions here... 1. Do you care where the U.S. ranks in science and technology; and... 2. Does it feel to you like the U.S. leads the world in these two categories?

LOL, the first thing I saw in the q was the words the RAND Corporation - reverse vampires indeed! Anywho, re: the question well, it's not surprising, the US is one of the, if not the richest country in the world, it can afford to spend money on this stuff. As to me caring...well, if it's good research I'm glad someones doing it. As to whether it seems they lead the world, I've never really thought about it.

Q2 - Advertising: Some of the companies advertising on television encourage viewers to visit a specific website or URL for an extended version of their commercial. When you see such prompts, do you go to the advertiser's website or do you generally ignore such goading?

LOL, who the Hell would do that? Most people try their best to avoid ads, seriously! I suppose if it was a really funny ad or something I might want to see the extended version. Chances are slim, however.

Q3 - Internet Traffic: Some people use the Internet just to check e-mail and look up phone numbers. Others are online all day, uploading and downloading large files. For years, both kinds of Web surfers have paid the same price for access. But now three of the nation's largest Internet service providers are threatening to clamp down on subscribers by placing limits on their online activity. One of them, Time Warner Cable, began a trial of "Internet metering" in one Texas city early this month, asking customers to select a monthly plan and pay surcharges when they exceed their bandwidth limit. The idea is that those of us who use the Internet more heavily should pay more, the way we do for water or electricity. How do you feel about this? Would you be willing to pay a metered rate for Internet access?

Dude, this has always been the case in Australia, people in the US don't know how good they get it! I've had to pay extra the last few months because I've gone over my download limit and my parents' connection has slowed to a standstill because they've gone over theirs (or I've helped them too, ahem, let's not go there). Seriously, if I was in the US I'd download like a fiend before that comes in. You lucky bastards. :OP
Although unlike my parents my internet provider lets me upload freely.

Q4 - Dissection: Like all medical schools, the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine requires its students to study and work on cadavers. In addition, the OU College of Medicine requires its student to attend its annual Anatomical Donor Memorial Luncheon, where they meet in person with family members of the specific donor they're charged with working on. Do you think you could stomach working on a cadaver?

Damn, I don't know if I could stomach meeting the family of the cadaver I'm gonna work on. That's getting a little personal, isn't it? How do you open that conversation? "Hey, thanks for letting your child/spouse/relative donate themselves to science so I can cut them up"? But yeah no way could I work on a cadaver, once we had to dissect a flower in Biology and I felt a little off.

Well, it took way too long to answer just that one meme, so I shall leave it at that, it's almost midnight!

Anywho, I bid you all, goodnight.

PS: I finally got up Chapter 50 of my fanfic. Hallejuah, and thank you all!

10:18pm: You know what hurts like Hell?

This sore throat of mine.

And those lozenges seriously don't work worth a damn once you've finished sucking them and paracetamol didn't really do that well either. Trying to get to sleep last night was horrible, every time I swallowed it felt like razor blades going down, and let me tell you it isn't until something like this that you realise just how much a person does swallow. Totally lame... I'm hoping that I'll do better tonight, especially since I'm going to bed later than usual.

The reason for that is that I had to drive Mum home from the Executive Committee Meeting, which only finished at 9:30.

So, I'm updating this from my parent's house, which does mean I can get up later in the morning, but not too much later, so I shouldn't dilly-dally too much here.

So yeah, this sore throat really made work a pain in the ass, I spent most of the morning clutching my throat because that of all things seemed to make it feel a bit better. Well, that and drinking water.

Finally, the Boss told me to gargle some aspirin, but not swallow it (seeing as aspirin isn't particularly good for one's stomach). Now, I've done that before and the problem with not swallowing said aspirin, is the affect only lasts for about 10 or 20 minutes, and then it only makes it bearable.

But it seems the sore throat is something that you can only get to being bearable status, because I asked around at Pharmacies this afternoon and about the only advice they could offer me was to suck a Strepsil and take paracetamol. Lame.

Yeah, so that's about all I have to say for today, although I went to pay a bill just now and noticed that Amazon has taken out the cost of the book I ordered online, I hope this means the book is on the way! Excitement! :O)

In closing I'd like to say Robert Mugabe is a complete dick and I wouldn't mind kicking him in the crotch.

And it's rather weak that we went into Iraq and Afghanistan and the US is threatening Iran, but no-one will threaten Mugabe's ass. Although, a military solution problem isn't a good idea...sure wish we could do something about the jerk though.

Anywho, the time is late, so I shall be off.

Goodnight to you all.

10:11pm: The Chapter of my story that is...I quite like it as is, but I may be covering old ground with it, doing a bit of a "As You Know Bob" with it. So that being the case I might hold off until I've given it another re-read.

In other news, not much...except I didn't have a proper dinner tonight -gulp- although you should have seen the size of the sandwich I had for lunch, seriously! It was a baguette and so big I had to cut it up into slices so I could actually eat it without out looking like a wild animal gnawing at something, LOL.

Whoops, I just got distracted by a website and have just realised how late it actually is, I gotta get to bed because it's been raining solidly for about two days now and as a result the traffic's rather shitty. I was actually a bit late to work today! Good thing my boss wasn't there because he flips out over stuff like this.

I must say, it's nice to see some rain, but it makes cleaning out the Boss's pool quite difficult, as well as sweeping the paths. There's leaves all over the place.

Yeah, so I actually don't have all that much to report today, although I have to say I'm going nuts over this whole US Presidental Election, OMG it takes them this long to pick whose gonna run? Ugh, I'll say it again I'm glad we don't have that over here. Although Barrack Obama looks like a good politician for once, it'll be interesting to see him in the top job - I'm particularly interested in the whole diplomacy thing with Iran, North Korea et al. Hope that works out.

Right, like I said, I must get to bed.

Goodnight to you all!

anonymoose_au: (That George III)
6:54pm: Indeed! Which is a bit embarrassing because Alexander Downer (an asshat from the old Government) is one. I don't want to be associated with that guy!

But yeah I don't want Australia to become no freakin' republic. Apart from anything else, it seems like a big waste of time. I mean, it's not like the Queen comes down here and takes our money or anything like that. If we go republic we'll have to change all our money - which will cost a heap! And they might change the flag (and believe you me, when they had a competition to design a new flag back during the Republician debate in 1996 - they were horrifying!)

So yeah this seems to be a case of change for change's sake. Like there's no good reason to do it, but it'll make us feel cool.

Won't make me feel cool though! I'll be really sad if we go republic, all our British ties severed! George III would be so bummed!

It's Queen Elizabeth's birthday today actually, she's the oldest British monarch (actually she passed that milestone a while back), but she still has a few more years to go before surpassing the record set by Queen Vic's reign.

I'm reporting all this from my apartment. It's nice to be back although the antispetic I accidentally spilt on the stove the other day stunk the place out.

And alas I was still rather uncomfortable going over the Bridge or not so much the bridge, but the approach to said Bridge. Don't know what that's all about, but I've borrowed some interesting books from Stanton Library on overcoming panic attacks. I'm hoping they'll give me some tips.

In other news, this carrot taste absolutely gross, which is bad because there's still a pack of them left in the fridge. Cucumber doesn't taste that great either... Hopefully the sausages are all right, how long can you keep those anyway?

And I got rid of the milk, I'm not actually sure if it was off, but it tasted kinda dodgy.

The Pope has been in the US this week, and I've found it rather offensive that all the news stations except SBS and ABC here in Aus is providing him with subtitles. He has an ever accent, but it's not unintelligible.

Anywho, let's have some Memes )

Opps, I got distracted doing other stuff so that's why this entry has taken so long. But now I have websites to go, stuff to read and so, I will be off.

6:03pm: This morning when I got up a threw my right arm out for some reason (possibly to avoid the mess on the floor...but I'm not sure), and I felt a really nasty pull in the rightside of my neck.

And since then it's been hurting and fuck me if I doesn't hurt like Hell if I try to look right or tilt my head.

As you can imagine this shit totally sucks...apart from anything else it's kinda hard to change lanes, since I really can't look that way.

Argh, this sucks!

In other news, Kevin Rudd the Prime Minister is in London and today he met the Queen, but he's still going for the Republic. As I've said, I don't care for the idea of a Republic, I mean I seriously don't see the point, it's not as if we have to pay money to the Queen or do what she says or anything like. But you know, it's just nice to be part of history and stuff, and that aside the absolute hideousness of the suggested flags was just...ew... Although I suppose we wouldn't have to change the flag, but if we're not gonna do that, what's the point?

More Memes, Please )

Finally, I'm all caught up!

Also, I was terribly embarrassed and annoyed this morning when I realised that something I'd spent all day uploading was the wrong thing! It's an anime, but I neglected to check if it was subtitled and it turned out it wasn't...A Japanese speaker I'm not.

And now I'm off, if for no other reason than to give my right arm a rest because, oww.

Goodnight all!
