11:36pm: Exciting news in Aussie figure skating world, our World Junior Champion pairs team is in Germany right now skating for a spot at the Olympics and they're off to an amazing start! :OD They're currently in fourth after the short program, and because the top two teams are all ready in the Olympics, the Aussies are well-placed for a chance to get a spot (they need to be in the top 5 of not yet qualified countries to do that)!

Also later on one of our Aussie ladies will be skating for her chance! If she manages and the pairs team gets through that means the Aussies will get to skate in the Team Competition at the Olympics next year in addition to the individual events (except the ice dancers, since they won't actually have a spot for themselves). Or at least I think they will? 'Cause I've just realised we had three out of four disciplines covered last Olympics too...hmpf, well, fingers crossed.

Anyway, it was a very busy day for me, what with volunteering, the electrolysis appointment and then (paid) work at Mona Vale Library. Phew! Wipes forehead.

On that note I better head off, I need to get to sleep there's more work to be done tomorrow...I wonder how much skating I'll miss. :OP Ah well, I guess my bandwidth (which I did end up buying an add-on block for) will thank me for it.

And now, goodnight!

11:25pm: Nah, not really, which is a shame...not that I haven't been enjoying myself, although I'm slacking on the fan fic, maybe I really do need to extra the digit as my mother would say and go somewhere else and actually sit at a table or something to work on it!

What else to report? Well, I've decided to use my acne cream on my face again since the pimples have returned. My only concern is I might end up bleaching my bed sheets or PJs, I probably should have put it on a bit earlier...although I haven't been able to find much info online about that.

Moving along, there was more ice skating to watch yesterday as the Junior Grand Prix event in Brisbane wrapped up. I missed like half of the ladies event which was a bummer, but I did at least get to see one of the Aussie girls. Yay! None of the Aussies finished very high, but hey it's the first event so there's nowhere to go but up. Also there was no pairs event in this one (which is weird, but OK) so our World Champions didn't compete. Fingers crossed when they do show up they'll go great!

Although watching the skating meant I didn't go skating, although I didn't really plan on it because I still have a cough from the cold so one shouldn't overdo these things, except that does mean I still haven't got my beanie from my friend! Ah well, next Saturday.

I also spent last night at the parentals because there was a fun-run this morning and Dad and I thought parking might be difficult in Dee Why for church, although as it happened there was hardly any traffic and plenty of parking. LOL. I guess that's how it goes.

Right, I better get going, it's almost 15 minutes 'til midnight and I've got work tomorrow morning and then volunteering! I be a busy Moose indeed!

Goodnight all!

11:32pm: I have no idea why it's taking so long! I hope it hasn't got lost in the mail, I actually called my bank asking after it, but their computer says it's definitely been sent and I checked my address with them and it was right so... The lady I spoke to said that she could send another card out, but if the first one was to arrive on Monday I wouldn't be able to use it! And then...be stuck waiting three to five days for the second one to come! Fuck that. I sure hope it comes on Monday, I'm not sure how much longer I can go without easy access to a bank account!

I suppose I could just go to the Mall tomorrow and withdraw like...two hundred bucks or something, but I really hate the thought of carrying that much dough around, what if I lose it?!

But today was kind of embarrassing, firstly I had to borrow some money from Mrs S so I could afford my hair cut (technically, I don't think you're meant to do that, but she assured me it'd be fine and she knew where I lived :OP) However, the hair cut was $89 so I didn't have enough for my waxing appointment. I tried to call Mum, but she didn't answer her phone and Dad's went straight to voicemail so I couldn't have either of them pay for me over the phone, so I was stuck. I actually hadn't been home since leaving at around 1pm for the hair appointment and I thought it was possible the mailman could have come by in that time, so I pushed my waxing appointment back to check that out - suffice to say no card! So I just cancelled the appointment and figured I'd just give my tweezers a good work out.

Later on Mum called though and convinced me to see if they still had an appointment open and they did, so back to Warriewood I went. It was for the best, since my other consideration was to get the waxing done after work tomorrow at the Mall (where the nearest branch of my bank is), but it's never a good idea to have the waxing done on the same day as the event you're going to.

The lady who did my eyebrows and lips was quite funny, so that was fun. :OP

I also got Mum to give me her card details so I could pay for the reunion ticket, it is tomorrow after all and I'm pretty sure it's poor form not to pay for an event before you show up to it, especially if you're not good friends with the host!

Oh! And of course I can't neglect to mention that today is St Paddy's Day! Toast the green my friends! I made cupcakes for the get-together after church - which alas I won't be able to go to - with green frosting! :OD Sadly since I gave up chocolate for Lent, I didn't have any, but here's what they look like (Mum added the green lollies on top).

And whilst I wasn't able to have chocolate, I did make the choice to have green fairy bread instead. Which is very 'Straylian, so bring it!

And now, I must be off, tomorrow looks to be a busy day! I sure hope the weather will be better than it is right now...I have to take public transport to the reunion tomorrow and I don't want to end up blown off my feet or soaked head to toe!

Oh...and lastly...my hair is looking great! Except...the hairdresser cut it slightly too short, so now I'm going to have fiddle around with the sides until the grow long enough to tie back. Do'h!

But now, I say goodnight!

11:11pm: Like there's something on it, but there isn't...It's really irritating and I think I'm just making it worse by poking at it. Wait, scratch that I know I'm making it worse.

Not much to report regarding today, although I saw a very odd sight this morning where it looked like the neighbour over the back fence was doing some caber tossing! He was carrying out some big (yet apparently lightweight) logs. When I got back home after going to the gym I saw what they were for, a cubby house. Lucky kids! When I was a little kid the only cubbyhouse my brothers and I had was an old chicken coop, but there were mosquitoes or some sort of stinging insect inside so you could only be in there for a few minutes at least. This one appears to have a slide!

Also there was something else I meant to write about yesterday, but I forgot and now...I've forgotten what it was again, LOL great fail on my behalf. But I guess it wasn't anything super important.

Oops, I let myself get distracted so now it's past 11:30 and I really need to turn in! But hey, how about one meme for the road!

1. What’s your favorite kind of French fry? Shoestring!

2. Where can you get really good French toast? Dunno, it's not my thing.

3. What are your feelings about French salad dressing? Never tried it, but I don't care for most dressings.

4. What’s something you know how to say in French? And just like that I've forgotten any French I even vaguely knew. Or at least forgotten how to spell it. Er Bonjour!

5. What French films have you seen? Hmm...I can't actually think of any, unless you count that doco about airplane crashes, although a lot of that was in English...It was done in France though!

Right, on that note I'm off to bed.

11:45pm: I've left it too late to do this this entry! Now I have no time for Memes, whoops.

Oh well, I had a good day, Mrs S and I got ready in time handyman to come and fix the bed and then I went to Warriewood to do some shopping and I found a blu-ray player for only $25! Cool! I have no idea what brand it is, but whatever.

Then it was off to the gym, good times! And I got my eyebrows waxed in preparation for tomorrow, because I'm seeing M tomorrow and I want to look decent. My eyebrows were terrible!

And...I even had enough time to go shopping for food and whatnot.

Anyway, I'm almost out of time so off I go!

11:50pm: I'm exaggerating a bit, but I'm working hard on catching up, today's word count is supposed to be 45,000 words, here's were I currently stand...

41424 / 50000 words. 83% done!

Not too bad...I hope, although there's now only three days left, here's hoping that I can be productive this weekend! I hoped to do more writing today, but I ended up not getting home until almost 5:30pm because I went to the doctor to see about my acne - which doesn't seem to be going away. Unfortunately, I didn't think I needed to make an appointment, but apparently medical centres in Dee Why don't really do walk-ins, the first one said they couldn't see me until 4:40pm and it was only 3:10pm then so I went to the other one that said someone could see me at 3:50pm so I decided to go with them since I am trying to finish my library book.

As it turned out I didn't get seen until 4:40pm anyway! So that was rather irritating, but on the plus side the doctor said I didn't need a referral to a dermotologist right off the bat, he said I should try out this benzoyl peroxide stuff to see if that would clear things up first. Rather awkwardly, I could have just got that over-the-counter, whoops. I used it first time this evening, fingers crossed it does something! The pimples on my face are refusing to go away even after a week, it's most uncool.

And finally before I rush off to bed, I had a bit of a scare today when I realised I didn't have my Misfit on my person! I figured it must have fallen off in the car, but I only just now remembered to go down and check under the seats, but alas it wasn't there! However, I looked in my other bag and there it was, what's up with that? Oh well at least it wasn't lost because that would have sucked.

And on a final note, I made lasagna tonight woohoo! Always very delicious. :OD

Right, I'm off to bed I need to catch up on my zzzs! Especially since I've got work tomorrow.

For now, goodnight!

10:52pm: Indeed so, but if I could it'd be something to do with a rather shocking discovery I made today...or possible shocking discovery. I'm sure you've all read about my problems with pimples, seriously my face is worse than a teenager's sometimes. Anyway, I was bemoaning this at work this morning (Mrs S is sympathetic to my plight) when I realised something...I've been taking great care in the last few years not to touch my face with my bare hands ever since I read that's the easiest way to get a cold or other virus. However, I still get an itchy face sometimes, so instead I use the collar of my shirt to sort of scratch the area and it has just occurred to me...my shirt collar surely isn't the cleanest of surfaces. Better than using my bare hands probably, but still not a good idea. OMG, could this be the answer? If so I sure feel dumb, but at the same time, what am I meant to do when my face is itchy? Use a pen? What do you do, my fellow readers? Or do you just not get itchy faces?

Anyway, I have to make the rest of this entry quick as I have to get up a bit earlier than usual tomorrow because I have to start at 8am again tomorrow because the nurse wasn't able to come today, but she is tomorrow - or at least I hope so.

Anyway, I finished work, then headed back home because I managed to forget a few things - like my watch - and then off I went to the gym before heading to the library to help with the Home Library Service. It was good timing actually because I arrived in time for the farewell afternoon tea for the Home Library Service leader who is leaving for a new job in a couple of weeks. Although, this is pretty much her last day because she's on leave next week.

As for me, I have lots of work coming up library-wise, I'll be at Mona Vale tomorrow, then Dee Why Library on Friday, Saturday and Sunday! Yikes! I hope I can keep up! I was going to come in on Friday to help with the Home Library Service a bit more because there's a bit of a backlog, which is not good, but with all those shifts coming up...nope.

After work I finally returned the string I bought from the Reject Shop the other week, and then did some shopping at Coles before I headed home and worked some more on the dress. I decided to extend the zipper so that it'll be easier to get on, because as it was I worried every time I put it on that I was going to rip one of the seams. I also sewed in one of the tulle layers to the skirt of the dress itself, why? I thought it would look better, although without the yoke, the layer is a bit shorter than the dress, eh whatever.

As for the petticoat itself? Well, I unpicked the bias binding from the yoke, then hemmed it, then sewed the bias binding back on and pinned the first layer of the petticoat net to it. Still got another layer and a tulle layer to pt on it though. Once all that's done though I'll pretty much be finished! Go me!

Right, on that note I better hit the hay! Sleep is important after all!

Unboned...

Sep. 18th, 2015 11:23 pm
anonymoose_au: (Whoops)
10:56pm: So after all that trouble I ended up taking all but two bits of boning from the bodice tonight while I was working on the dress. And to my relief the dress stays up! Although it was somewhat irritating after all that trouble I went to. But it's better they're gone because except for those two the other ones had a tendency to break through the lining and poke me right in the ribs. I also modified the collar somewhat to try and make it look more like Lorraine's in the movie, since as I mentioned last night I hadn't really noticed how much it curved before.

I also sewed the bodice and skirt together tonight and the result can be seen here! It looks pretty good right? Although there's still some annoying things, for one the tulle overlay of the skirt isn't quite right with the whole shorter at the front than the back thing - I've kind of fixed that though, the main problem is the hook and eye, it won't stay put! I've sewed it on twice now and both times it's come off. Grumble, grumble.

However, I had some very good luck today with strapless bras, Mrs S mentioned that they are apparently available in Target and/or K-Mart after all, so one I finished work I went to the shopping centre near her house and found one for nine bucks! And it fits well and everything. Niiice. It helps the dress stay up quite nicely.

What wasn't such good luck was that I managed to forget to bring my swimmers along to the gym, so I couldn't go swimming after my work out today. Boooo!

Also, I got a call from Mrs S it turned out we'd forgotten to sign my timesheet for the fortnight, it needs to be faxed in by Monday otherwise I won't be paid! So, Mrs S and I arranged to meet in Dee Why so I could sign it, but it took longer than expecting because she somehow got an all-stops bus. But it wasn't too bad, I caught up on my reading which I've been slacking with this week.

After that I got my eyebrows waxed at one of those nail places, but Mum was of the opinion that they ended up being too thin, dang. I thought they looked OK though? Well, hopefully if they are a bit weird looking they'll look normal by the Halloween party.

The reason I got my eyebrows done was because I had dinner with my parents tonight, I'd actually forgotten about it, but Mum sent me an SMS this morning to ask when I was going to show up at their place. My little bro was supposed to come, but he couldn't so in the end Mum's friend from the main house, C came along. I ended up confused as to where exactly the club was so I asked C to drive because I get skittish when I'm trying to drive somewhere I've never been in the dark. Plus I thought we were going somewhere out past Palm Beach not practically across the road from my parents place!

Anyway, dinner - chicken pamajama was delicious although I couldn't eat all mine so I've brought it home to consume tomorrow (man, am I ever going to eat that ham?) It was good to see the parental units, Dad was in a good mood but his poor knee continues to bother him. I think he's on school holidays now so he's going to look into getting a knee replacement, yikes.

Now, it's getting quite late and I have to get up and get moving tomorrow because C and N are having visitors over so I need to get my laundry done ASAP, so I guess I'll skip the memes for now. Plus I'm getting quite sleepy so I shall wrap this up.

Goodnight all!

10:50pm: Today was the day of the on-site induction at Mona Vale Library, hooray! It included getting to know the returns system, which is rather hi-tech, with an electronic pad that can read the barcodes of more than one book at a time just by placing them on it. Also shelving! Although, I didn't actually do any work on the desk, whoops! However! I have four shifts come up on successive Tuesdays so I'm sure I'll end up on it pretty soon.

The only problem, I'm not sure what to do with the car situation, I took the car today, but parked a fair distance from the library and I'm not sure if there's any non-timed parking spots closer to the building. However, in the winter at least, there's the issue where it's dark by the time my shift will finish (since I can only work in the afternoons). Soooo, what to do, what to do?

But it's all very exciting! They'd all ready had pigeon holes marked with our names and everything! :O) The only downside is they took photos for our ID Badges (I guess) and I have a couple of rather nasty pimples on my chin! Aw man...how embarrassing. Maybe I should go see a dermotologist or something, I feel I've been lied to, I mean we were always told that pimples were a teenage problem, ha, I think not.

Anyway, it's Embarrassing Bodies night tonight and I have to ask...do men really have no problem giving sperm samples in any location? Because on this show they often have them just going into a public toilet and giving one for the doctors to examine. I mean seriously? How can they do that in a public toilet? I'd think the location would be enough to put you off.

And that's pretty much all I have to report for today, it's been a busy day! I wonder how I'll go next Tuesday when I'll be working from 8:30 to 6pm, although there will be a two hour break in between, maybe I'll have to learn the art of a power nap! :OP

Oh and I almost forgot...as I was driving to work this morning I was making a turn when a car came out of nowhere (at least to me O.o) and we almost ran into each other! To make matters worse we were going in the same direction and I was kind of worried there was going to be a road rage incident. Whoever was in the car not only honked me at the near collision, but later on - for no reason that I can think of - eventually we went our separate ways. But I was left to wonder...was I the one at fault or were they? I swear I looked both ways before beginning the turn. Maybe they came out of a driveway. Hmpf, I'll have to be careful!

For now, though, goodnight!

11:44pm: And almost Christmas Eve Day since I turned out to be quite busy today and so have only got around to updating now.

Well, that's not strictly true, for the past hour I've been reading a book I borrowed from the library, trying to find a good place to take a break, which I finally did.

Anyway, back to the busyness, well first of all, I decided to go to the gym before going to my appointment at the IPL place, which would have worked out better if I hadn't dilly-dalled, missed the buses and had to wait another half an hour for one to come thus I didn't get to the gym until after 2:30. Once again my time-keeping bit me on the butt because despite skipping my cool down stretching, I still reached the bus stop too late to catch the bus I'd planned to.

In fact, before I knew it it was nearly 4pm and I was due at the IPL place at 4:15!

As it happened my mother had called me earlier to ask if I wanted to come along to Reconciliation at the church she works at which is in the same suburb as the IPL place - which is also where she picks up the turkey for Christmas dinner. We were supposed to meet at the butchers, but I called her up to find out if she might possibly still be in the area and she was! So that meant she could come and pick me up, although as it turned out it took longer than I thought for her to arrive - so I ended up needing to call the IPL place to move my appointment to 4:30, which I was worried about since it's pretty busy and they had to squeeze me in. But luckily they were able to do that and even though I was still late by four minutes I was still able to get my face and eyebrows done. Niiice.

Anyway, I helped Mum out at work before Reconciliation and that lasted for a while, but not as long as some Reconciliations I've been too! But I didn't get home until nearly 9pm, since the service didn't start until 7pm and on the way home Mum and I had to stop by the mall, which ended up taking longer than I thought it would because Mum wanted to go to a few shops.

But, hey, this meant it was dark on the rest of the drive and I we saw some amazing Christmas lights, ah I love that stuff.

And now I've just seen the time so I better wrap this up. I be tired so I should be heading to bed soon anyway.

So I bid you all goodnight!

Hey Bro!

Dec. 21st, 2014 11:36 pm
anonymoose_au: (Default)
10:35pm: Yes, my big brother and his girlfriend have arrived here in Australia. I was a bit worried actually because usually he flies with Jetstar and there was a bruhaha with them yesterday when their computer system broke down and 13 flights ended up being cancelled. Although maybe that was only for Australian flights - still one would think there'd be a knock-on affect, but as it turned out, he didn't fly with them this time. I didn't ask who he went with...maybe Japan Airlines?

Anywho! It was good to see him! He's looking well plus he seems to be going really well with his job - unlike the little bro and I who are both unemployed at present - he's full-time and has a secretary (well, OK there's a secretary in the area where he works, so its not his personal secretary). Sigh, people keep suggesting to me that I should leave the Sydney area to find a job, but I'm not very good at making new friends and I like being around family. All the same though...I may have to move actually if the Government gets its way, there's been a bit a reshuffle in the Cabinet and now the complete asshole of an Immigration Minister is the Social Services Minister. I'm sure if it was up to our government they'd be no social services at all, or if they are you have to be reaaaally screwed to get them.

But I digress, I went over to my parents house to see the big bro arrive and went via the swimwear shop, but first of all I found that the on-special stuff was $50 not $20 and they didn't have much of a selection in my size! I guess I'm a more common size now so it gets sold before the swimsuits can go on sale. However! While browsing the net at my parents place - helps me stay quiet which is a good idea since my big bro says I talk too much, LOL - I found a pair of almost exactly the same swimmers on E-bay! They have a different back, but they've still got the nice sweetheart neckline and the black and white stripey bits. Alas they're like twice as expensive as the ones I got at Aldi last year, but I'm going to hope that means they'll last longer. Or perhaps I should cycle my swimmers more - I do have some sporty green and black ones...

Anyway, I'm sure you all have no interest in what swimmers I wear and I do have all those Sunday Stealing memes to catch up on...

So let's start on that )

Phew! Well, better wrap this up since I do have to get to bed, I need to ring up the laser treatment place tomorrow morning and see about getting my upper lip and chin done...oh and my eyebrows waxed too, just in time for Christmas. :OP

For now, I bid you all goodnight!

11:04pm: I change my appointment to get the laser thing done and when I get to Neutral Bay and go looking around at the second hand shops - I'm still looking for shorts - and what do I see in the window of the Salvation Army but a pair of figure skates! OMG! I waaaaant. But of course, I have no idea if they fit me because of course I couldn't go in there. And of course this would happen when next week is all about the Clinical Placement. I finish at 3pm, but the Salvation Army shop closes at 4pm. I've checked my transport app but I really think there's no way I could get there in time. Damn. Who knows if they'll be there by next Saturday? I don't know what I can do, unless I can convince Mum to go and see about their size and get them if they're a 37, although, I wonder if I did get them if I'd actually do that much skating. The only rink anywhere near me is quite a distance away, two buses away in fact, and if I got them and didn't use them that would be a shame. Hmmm...decisions, decisions.

In other news, I made some jelly today, because there was a packet of it in the cupboard and I'm supposed to be making some for a friend's get together in a few week's time so I should see if I'm any good at it. You may laugh, but I recall completely screwing up last time I tried to make it and it never set! However, it's still got 15 minutes to go before it's been in the fridge for the minimium four hours, although thinking on that I should probably just leave it in there overnight to be on the safe side. Although it's a warm night and some jelly would be nice...

Anyway, let's do a meme!

Saturday 9

:Welcome to My Nightmare (1975):

1) Tell us about a bad dream you've had.

Well, I sometimes have these dreams where I'm on the beach and the waves start getting bigger and bigger and become a tsunami! I'm rather terrified of big waves since I got caught in a rip when I was swimming at a beach after a storm and the surf was big. So yeah, that one always set me on edge.

2) Sam is not crazy about spiders. What frightens you, or gives you "the creeps?"

Eh, I've never seen a huntsman or a red back or anything, but in general I'm not that worried by them. I absolutely hate ants, they scare the hell out of me!

3) This week's featured artist, Alice Cooper, has always liked to dress up. Performing as Alice, he wears garish eye makeup. In his first group, he and his bandmates dressed as the Beatles. Will you be wearing a costume this weekend? Nope, although I did put that green chalk in my hair last night, I thought it looked pretty sharp, LOL.

4) Alice says his makeup was inspired by Bette Davis in his favorite horror movie, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? This Halloween weekend, will you seek out horror movies and scary TV shows, or will you avoid them?

Well, I'm watching Crime Investigation Network, but I hate gore and horror in movies so I'm steering clear!

5) Born Vincent Furnier, Alice used to tell reporters that he and his band got the name Alice Cooper from a Oujia board. Have you ever tried a Oujia board?

Nope, I seem to recall my mother telling me I should never use one because they're eeeevil. Or that could have been a dream or something. Either way, nope, I haven't.

6) Alice and his band (also called Alice Cooper) were discovered by music manager Shep Gordon while playing in Venice, California. Have you ever visited Venice, California or Venice, Italy?

Definitely not Venice Italy, sadly, though my parents have. As for Venice, California, I have been to Los Angeles, but not to that area.

7) In 1970s England, a morality campaigner named Mary Whitehouse persuaded the BBC to ban Alice Cooper. The ensuing publicity resulted in such a bump in record sales that Alice sent Ms. Whitehouse flowers. Do you believe in censorship? Or should adults be able to choose to see/hear whatever they wish?

Ha, ha, major fail Ms Whitehouse. And no, I think adults should be able to see/hear whatever they wish...well unless it's child pornography because that's fucked up beyond anything.

8) Today Alice has a popular syndicated radio show, Nights with Alice Cooper. Listeners all over the United States, Germany, Denmark, New Zealand, and the UK hear him introduced as, "a man for whom even Dr. Phil has no cure." Do you watch Dr. Phil?

Really? I had no idea! And nope don't watch Dr. Phil, I heard that he isn't even a doctor either medical or with a PHD for shame. :OP

9) Did you get many trick or treaters this year? What candy did you give them?

Nope, Mum's friends in the main house got a few, but I wasn't there to see any.

The (Other) Friday Five is up but it's all about Halloween which I don't do enough to make answering them worth it, so instead I shall wrap it up here! I've got to get up at a decent hour tomorrow so I can finish cleaning the kitchen and put more stuff on my shelves, Mum is coming over to check it out, so yeah.

For now, I say goodnight!

11:10pm: No indeed! Although at first it looked like Mum and her friend would be getting back earlier than expected, she sent me an SMS from the plane at 7:30 and it only takes an hour or so to get from Brisbane to Sydney. At that time though, the plane hadn't actually been cleared...and when she called again around 8:15 it was to say that for some reason the flight had been cancelled! And there's not another one until tomorrow! Fortunately the airline is going to put them in a hotel for the night, and they should arrive some time during the day tomorrow. So, hey, I don't need to drive in the dark after all, yay!

Lucky me, for having a spare set of PJs here at the parentals, and there's also a red long sleeved skivvy that I left here, so that's handy too.

Despite the change in plans, today went well, although the bus ran late and we got stuck waiting for the Spit Bridge to open then close, do'h! But fortunately, when I got off the bus at Spit Junction, one to Mosman Junction was coming mere minutes later so I was only about five minutes late to the Laser Treatment. Although, I'm wondering why getting it done seems to hurt more now then it did the first time, talk about weird! Oh well, it hurts a whole lot less than waxing that's for sure!

I also had a pie at a cafe for lunch afterward, which was a bit of an indulgence, but hey, how often do I treat myself :OP although, it did mean I went to the gym rather later than planned so that the pie had time to digest. Also I got caught up watching Midsomer Murders.

The gym was good, except that I forgot the water aerobics class was on from 5:30 to 6:30, which meant no swimming for me, boo. Maybe I'll double my time in the water tomorrow. Guess that depends on if I have to pick up Mum and her friend or if the friend's husband will do it.

Anywho, seeing as I'm on my tablet and it's getting late, I shall leave the Memes to tomorrow, for now though...

Goodnight!

10:51pm: Well, damn...I'm suffering from a facial breakout again, what's up with that? I've been using the anti-pimple cleansing stuff the beautician recommended and it seemed to be working.

And now it's just occurred to me, I don't think I've been washing my pillow enough...eww...awkward. I should look into that, and kick myself since I just did laundry a couple of days ago, I should have put my pillow case in then!

On the plus side, at least the spot that was right between my eyebrows has disappeared, that was in a really awkward spot, LOL.

What else do I have to report? Well today is Saturday, so church was on, of course as always I kind of miscalculated with time and even with the car - which Mum and Dad nicely lent me - it was a squeeze to get to the gym and then church, even though I only went on the bike and swam.

Also, is Tumblr loading really slow for anyone else? Or is it just my browser and the overabundance of tabs I've got open on it? Because I've got an excellent wi-fi signal here at the parental units so that shouldn't be causing me any problems.

And time is swiftly getting away from me, so I better do those Memes!

The (Other) Friday Five

1. What was the last book that took your breath away? Mao's Last Dancer was a seriously amazing read! Some people have such amazing lives.

2. How many hours do you spend in a car during an average week? If you're talking strictly cars? Um, less than an hour. If we include all wheeled transport, probably more like two or three depending.

3. What is your favorite mind game to improve your memory? I've got this app on my phone called Seven Words, I think it improves my memory, but I don't rightly know. Probably all counts right?

4. How often do you talk to friends on the phone? Not much at all, I'm terrible at keeping in touch by phone. I should do something about that...

5. If you could have minions (like the yellow guy in my icon), would you? Umm, nah, minions aren't really my bag.

Saturday 9

:Little Red Corvette:
(recommended by Smellyann)

No link this week. Prince apparently is very strict about copyright infringement.

1) The subject of this song is frankly sexual. Do you blush easily? So my friends say the one time they showed me some saucy material (why did they have saucy material? I don't know) But I'm not sure...

2) Prince is his real name (Prince Rogers, to be exact). Growing up, his relatives called him "Skipper." Do you have any nicknames within your family? Yes! Moose :OD And really his name's 'Prince' I thought he changed it to that before changing it to 'Symbol' then changing it back.

3) Prince says he's "obsessed" with Mozart and reads whatever he can find about the composer. What's the last book you read? Brace for Impact a collection of stories from 25 of the 155 survivors of the Hudson River Ditching. Good stuff.

4) Between Prince and The Beach Boys, the Corvette is a much sung-about car. Tell us about your vehicle. N/Am although I may have worn my parents down enough to get the green Citroen, if it's still there...Or rather we'll have a car-sharing agreement.

5) In the 1980s, when Prince was popular, MTV could turn a song into a hit. In 2014, how do you hear new music? To be honest, I generally don't, because I don't like the new stuff.

6) In 1982, when "Little Red Corvette" ruled the airwaves, Braniff Airways shocked the travel industry and threw passengers into chaos by declaring bankruptcy. When did you last fly? Did your trip go smoothly? Not since coming back from Bali and it was a smooth flight in terms of no turbulence, but my friend and I were seated separately from my mother and her friend because the plane was full. Also, our seats sucked right in front of the bathroom with no room to recline and the people in front of us put their seatbacks right in our faces. The food was good, though...

7) 1982 is also the year Disney opened Epcot. Have you ever been to a Disney park? I've been to both Disneyland and Eurodisneyland with my family during our 1993 world trip. As this was before I turned into a wuss about roller coasters and stuff do it was good times all around.

8) 1982 is the year Cheers premiered. The sitcom was set in a bar where "everybody knows your name." Tell us about your favorite local bar or restaurant. N/A, but that's a great show!

9) The 1980s were considered a highpoint in professional tennis, with Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe dominating the sport. Do you play tennis? Ha ha funny you should mention them because I'm reading John McEnroe's autiobiography...Anyway I have played tennis and even had lessons for a while, but damn me I sucked at it.

Righto, that's the memes that are up right now, so I'll wrap it up here.

Tomorrow I'm going to the gym and then meeting my parents and grandparents for lunch at the War Vetrans' club - I'm driving my parent's BMW, so wish me luck with that!

For now, goodnight!

10:46pm: Yes, hip-hip hooray! :OD

But what the bloody Hell? I didn't find them at church even though I went there this morning (Mum dropped me off) and looked everywhere but when I came home, feeling quite defeated and started picking up clothes to put in the washing basket.

I pick up a pair of shorts that I wasn't even wearing when I left for church on Saturday and feel a weight in the pocket...

My keys! They were sitting in that pocket the whole time for the last four days! How the fuck is that possible! I'm sure I moved those pants around since then, and I swear I left the house on Saturday with my keys in my hand and returned without them and the whole time I was in a dress not a shorts. Man, St Anthony (Patron Saint of Lost Objects) really pulled one on me this time!

I'm so relieved though! And now the keys are safely in the pocket of the pants I'm wearing...still I have no idea how to avoid this in the future. Gee, you think having them on a chain to connect to belt loops would be enough, but what does a person do when they don't have belt loops, or pockets?

Still LOL, the embarrassment.

In other news, my face has broken out something awful, at least in the lower jaw area, it was so bad Mum made me promise to go to the Beauticians to get a treatment done on it, which I did. However, the beautician is most insistent that I give up gluten, which sucks because I love bread. Mum bought some 98% Gluten Free bread for me to try, which tasted OK, but the problem with gluten free bread is it's so heavy, not fluffy like bread usually is. Furthermore, is gluten causing pimples a medically proven fact? Or just some mumbo-jumbo?

Oh well, I guess I can try and hack it...the beautician only suggested I try it for two weeks, I guess I can do that, see how my face is, add some gluten back in and see if that sets it off.

Anywho, I should be off, Homes Under the Hammer is on and I should be downstairs watching it with Mum rather than being up here!

So I say goodnight all!

10:42pm: Well, I do...my lower leg muscles, especially the right one...wearing my high heel sandals yesterday and doing all that walking around was apparently a big mistake. Aw, fuck. It's really made cleaning up my room impossible because going up and down stairs really hurts.

This also means I've been sitting up here on my laptop for waaay too long and my eyes are hurting - I did go out today actually, to my IPL treatment thing and even did quite a bit of walking...which probably wasn't a good plan now I think of it. Still,it doesn't really hurt walking or whatever on flat surfaces.

I also don't have much else to say...I'm watching I Shouldn't Be Alive right now...oh man, these three guys have decided to go hiking in some dangerous ass canyon and you know it's going to go pearshaped (ahem obvious statement is obvious). I think I may have seen this one, there's a cave in and one of them has to cut his own hand off or something.

Honestly though, ignoring the GPS...why bother bringing it along?! Just watching this is making my legs ache in sympathy.

So yeah...got nothing more to say...I really need to work on making these entries more interesting, LOL.

Oh...did you hear? Apparently some of the families of the people on the Malaysian Airlines plane were informed that 'all hope has been lost of finding anyone alive' by SMS?! WTF?! Why would anyone think that was an acceptable way to inform anyone of something like that? Everything that's happened since the plane disappeared has been one giant fuck-up...

And I'm sleepy because my parents managed to wake me up at some stupid hour, I should really close my door.

Anyway, I shall say goodnight!

10:03pm: I'm happy to report that today went significantly better! It started a bit oddly when I received a call at 8:10am and it turned out to be a someone from one of the places I applied to, at that hour! But! It's a library job! How exciting! The downside was they were calling to say that it was no longer two days a week, but one and on a Monday too. But library job takes precedence, so I said that I was still super interested, so the woman, the head of the Primary School Library (huh didn't know I was a primary school library still cool beans) said that the director of the Primary School wanted to see my references and know what days I would be available for an interview. So I emailed that info through - although I did put my references in my cover letter, do people read those things?

So, I did that and then headed off for my laser treatment thing, which I ended up running late for - do'h - however I did call ahead to let them know so no dramas. I got the treatment done and also an eyebrow wax because they're a bit out of control LOL and it wasn't as expensive as I feared, phew!

And I gave my resume to the Mosman Newsagency before heading to my own newsagency to get some essential items for my Christmas cards.

After that I had planned to go to the gym and I'd even brought my gym shoes along, but then then I realised I forgot to bring the house keys for the parental units's place so I couldn't! Instead I dropped of a resume at Baker's Delight at Neutral Bay and then headed on back to Newtown where I was able to get into the Box Thing (because the person has moved their 4WD for the day) so I've got my Christmas decos and accessories. My tree is looking niiice if I do say so myself.

Then I did some more work on my Christmas cards, I did one yesterday and two more this afternoon so there's three more to do - well for my overseas friends, because they have to be sent ASAP to arrive in time.

Then it was time to go to my Writer's Group for what turned out to be the last one of the year, while there I got a call, from the library woman, to arrange an interview next Tuesday at 7:30am! Yikes! But I wanna work in a library so I definitely jumped at the chance, I immediately planned how to get there in time, so I should be good go. I also got an email while at the Writer's Group said I didn't get the Manly Library job, so fingers crossed friends!

Right now I'm working on the fourth one now which I've almost finished, once it's done I better turn in though! Work at the office tomorrow.

That being the case, I'll hold off on doing the memes once more, it I'll get onto them soon, I promise!

For now, though, goodnight!

10:53pm: I'm watching Deadly Women which is back on again instead of New Detectives, which bums me out, although this is before the renenactments got disturbingly graphic. Doesn't change the fact that these women are nuts!

In other news, I've kind of left this entry kind of late for catching up on Meme, but I should get onto the Saturday ones anyway, because otherwise I'll never catch up!

Bring it! )

Phew! Well, that's one lot of Saturday memes done, so yay!

Finally I'm going to get laser treatment on my face to reduce hair growth, not that it's horribly out of control, but sometimes I do get a moustache a 15 year old boy would be proud off. Plus I'm getting some hairs on my chin! D: I went in for a test...laser thing today, just to make sure I don't have any bad reactions, seems to be doing fine, so I'll head back on Wednesday. Though I forgot to ask about the lip...whoops. Oh well, I'll see what they say.

Anyway, must be off only ten minutes til midnight and I need to get my zzzs!

9:10pm: Which is quite a task, but this one has the children of the Hoarder - now deceased - consulting a psychic! Can't say I've ever seen that before o.O But they've got some professionals in now to clean it up properly. Because yeah, it's pretty bad.

Although I probably shouldn't be watching this show, the friends and I were discussing this when we met up on the weekend and they're totally exploitative shows. Even though they do make me feel better about my lack of neatness. Although the apartment is looking pretty bad at the moment as I have this terrible habit of just tossing my clothes on the floor when I put my pjs on at the end of the day, LOL. But I better clean it up before I go to bed because I'm going away this weekend so I won't be able to do it tomorrow evening or Saturday morning as usual.

Speaking of the weekend, I have to get my clothes prepared, Mum and I discussed what I to wear as there's both a party during the day and a dinner at night, but alas I have discovered the shirt I was going to wear for the party isn't here. I think I packed it away with my summer clothes, do'h! I do have another shirt, which hopefully will pass muster. She's gone out shopping tonight though so I have to wait for a bit before I can call her.

In other news, I got my face done, yay! I also bought some rings at one of those accessory shops, alas upon bringing them home and trying them on properly I've discovered I should have bought the small size, not the medium, do'h! I have the receipt so I'll be able to return them, but I can't recall if they had any small sizes of those rings available. I hope so! Sure they're cheap but they do look pretty. Plus I could use some rings, I used to have one which was given to me by my aunt for a Confirmation gift but it disappeared a few years ago. :O(

And now...My Strange Addiction is coming on, oh dear...I should stick to that show about weird obsessions, the people on that show may have weird obsessions, but they seem be living life all right not buried in boxes or eating paint or whatever.

Anyway, I better meme and get to my cleaning and the Pinkie Pie icons (I'm just resizing the images now).

Imagery Part 2

Connected to last week’s—it’s one of the ways writing has changed. Books from a century or two ago spent huge swaths of text describing locations and character traits, but modern writing does all of this in shorthand. You might know a character is short with blond hair and blue eyes, but the author leaves the rest for you to figure out on your own. The writer might tell you the story takes place at a beachside town, but leaves the details to your imagination. Why do you suppose this is? Is it that we have shorter attention spans these days? That, bombarded with video and photos as we are, we don’t NEED every detail of an unknown scene described, because we have a stock of images already in our heads?

Hmmm, this is actually an interesting question! Especially since I hadn't really notice until this question was raised! Older books like those by Jane Austen and Thomas Hardy et al are certainly packed with long and dare I say overly detailed descriptions. Well, Thomas Hardy and the Bronte sisters are more prone to this than Jane Austen, I certainly have trouble reading their books because you just get so bogged down!
But I think the writer of this question has a point, with photography and television people do tend to have 'stock images' in their heads so they don't need a blow by blow description of stuff these days.
Although it probably also has something to do with shorter attention spans ;O)

Right, off I go!

Goodnight all!

11:27pm: You know where this is going, no memes this entry either. Man, I'm going to fall way behind again. But I had such a busy day with hair appointments, and waxing, and work, and church and going to have dinner with family that I can barely keep my eyes open.

So let's have a short entry here, more of a check in than anything else. I hope to give a more comprehensive overview of stuff tomorrow.

For now, goodnight.
