11:22pm: Not much to report, although I did wash my car today, or at least tried too, the top part looks pretty good, but I'm not sure how the lower part faired because I didn't even notice I hadn't wiped that part until the rest of the car was mostly dry. To say nothing of the windows, I think I need to take some window cleaner down tomorrow because they're all spotty with dust and it's hard to see out when the sun is shining in.

In other news, I'm watching Forensic Investigators, a strange episode this one, involving a boat chase just off the coast of Australia back in 2003, man, I never saw this on the news, which is weird because the Navy got involved and in the end they scuttled the ship (after the trial had finished) by bombing it with a fighter jet. Huh, must have been busy in 2003 then. :OP

Anyway, it's getting late and I should be going to bed a bit earlier than I have been doing on Friday's because I need to start my laundry I bit earlier if I'm going to get it done before heading out for ice skating.

So here's a meme!

Intriguing

What’s the most intriguing book you ever read? Something that made you think, explore new ideas, or just be really impressed and awed and amazed at the sheer wonder of the creativity of the thing?

Hmmm, intriguing...well, I do read widely, if I do say so myself! :OP But in terms of exploring new ideas, the Russian history book I read recently was certainly an eye opener, all that history! And all that craziness...

Friday5

You Say It's Your Birthday

1. Happy 75th birthday to actor/comedian/musician Steve Martin! He played a sadistic dentist in Little Shop of Horrors (1986). What’s your relationship with your dentist like? Holy shit, Steve Martin is 75? Surely not, that's insane! Man, he looks good for his age...Anyway, as for my relationship with my dentist, it's sort of non-existent because I don't really go. I know you're meant to go every 6 months, but firstly I don't like going to the dentist - they put the chair too far back these days! - and I don't have private health insurance right now so can't afford it. The dentist/s I see have been pretty good though.

2. Happy 65th birthday to comic strip artist Gary Larson, creator of The Far Side! One classic The Far Side strip illustrates literally the Platonic allegory of the Ship of Fools, followed by an illustration of his own concept of the Car of Idiots. When have you been a passenger in a car of idiots? Uh...hmmm...I'm fortunate in that I've never been in a car of idiots. Maybe a bus of idiots when we had to go to school camp, LoL.

3. Happy 55th birthday to basketball player Ervin “Magic” Johnson, who spent his whole career as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers! What are your memories or impressions of Los Angeles? I've been to LA! And I think of Disneyland, Universal Studios, Rodeo Drive and lots of traffic! :OP

4. Happy 50th birthday to actress Halle Berry, who plays Storm (a woman who can control the weather) in the X-Men movies! What’s the weather like right now, and if you could adjust one aspect of it for the weekend, what would it be? Well, it's a bit chilly in the mornings and evenings, but the sky has been a beautiful blue and there hasn't been windy as Hell or anything. Ideally, it'd be nice if that could continue through the weekend, because apparently it's meant to rain on Sunday...and I washed the car!

5. Happy 32nd birthday to actress Mila Kunis! Which of these Mila films have you seen?
Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)
Extract (2009)
The Book of Eli (2010)
Date Night (2010)
Black Swan (2010)
Friends with Benefits (2011)
Ted (2012)
Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)
Annie (2014)
Jupiter Ascending (2015)

None of those...I have watched That 70's Show which I greatly enjoyed though!

The (Other) Friday Five

Travel

These questions were written by lillibet.

1) What's the first place you remember travelling? Like ever? I guess Sydney to see M and Grandpa and Dad's side of the family. Specifically I remember visiting my maternal grandmother's house when I was six because I fell off the monkey bars at the park next door and fractured my left arm. Ow.

2) What's the funniest thing that's ever happened to you while travelling? Well, it wasn't that funny to me, but when the family was in England we were walking in a park and somehow I managed to wander off the path, running out of control down the slope, tripped up on a log and landed in a huge pile of leaves.

3) What's the worst thing that ever happened to you while travelling? Well, when I was in Bali there was a whole day I was in bed because I had a touch of diarrhea and was dizzy as Hell. I bounced back quickly though, but I was left all by myself. Hmpf.

4) What's the furthest place from home you've ever travelled? All the way to Scotland!

5) Where is the next place you hope to travel? To be honest, I dunno...I want to go to New York some day, but I'm uncomfortable with the idea of flying by myself...How will I ever get there!

Okedoke, time to wrap this up! Wish me luck tomorrow with all the stuff I have to do! :O)

Goodnight all!

11:05pm: Somehow last night I didn't plug my mobile into the charger and as a result the battery ran right down and switched itself off. This meant that my alarm didn't go off this morning! Now last time this happened it was a complete disaster, I didn't wake up until like 9:30 and ended up missing work. However! This time, miracle of miracles I woke up at precisely 7:14am this morning, just a minute before my alarm should have gone off! Well, it was probably more like 7:15 because my fit bit's watch seems to end up running slow, it's really weird!

Time was still not entirely on my side because somehow 20 minutes all but disappeared, I swear! One moment it was like 20 past 7, the next it was 10 to 8! This was very bad news for me, because I was supposed to drop off the car at the garage for it's service by about 7:30am. I got to the garage, but at that point it was during the 20 minute window when no all stop buses show up and there I was with my phone only 6% charged trying to call Mrs S to let her know I was running late.

Because of my lack of organisation I also didn't have a chance to have anything but a mandarin for breakfast, at least not until I got down to Collaroy and was able to buy a crossiant before I was able to catch the right bus. But life had to be a bit of an ass, because for some reason the traffic was shit! I did get onto Mrs. S, but I was like 20 minutes late in the end instead of 10. Tsk.

However, the car has been serviced and I've got it back now - Mum kindly came and picked me up and drove me to the garage - if she hadn't done that I would have had to catch two buses - and also paid for the service, which ended up being very pricey. If I do end up getting a car I'll need to factor that in. Actually I do owe my parents $56 10% of the service cost, but I'm going to pay for Mum's ticket to see the "Voice of Cycling" Phil Liggett as well as my own.

Anyway, as a result of the near-schmoozle this morning I decided I really needed to get an alarm clock and even went to the Mall before going to the gym with plans to buy one. At least until I recalled that I have an alarm clock- or at least I was pretty sure it has an alarm...and I was quite right too. It runs on batteries so even if the power goes off for some reason I should be good.

Right, I better wrap this up, I have to get to bed especially since I need to start a half-hour earlier than usual tomorrow.

I did forget to mention something yesterday, a rather annoying thing...namely my right black work shoe was squeaking! The entire shift at the library it was going squeak-squeak-squeak, which is quite noticible in a quiet place like a the library! So that was awkward! I'll be wearing the same shoes tomorrow when I volunteer at Dee Why and I'll have to see if it's any better. If not, I'll have to change my shoes!

And I've caught up on Million Dollar Minute yay! Tomorrow three new players are playing, who will be the next champ?

On that note, goodnight!

10:34pm: Well, by everyone I mean me, and by weekend I mean only for 3 hours on Sunday, someone from the Warringah Library called me up after I finished my shift at Mona Vale Library this afternoon asking if I could go to the Creative Space for three hours on Sunday just to keep an eye on the place since there's a exhibition of local artworks there. Well actually, the phrase used was 'volunteered' so I'm not actually sure if I'm getting paid, whoops. But I think maybe I am? I wasn't sure how to bring that up without it being all awkward...

What else to report? Well not much, except that I should get those memes done...Oh wait, that's right, work went well! :O) I do love working at the library, I got to do a special assignment today, which I guess wasn't all that special, but it involved a guillotine (the ones for paper not beheading!) and contact, the latter used to be my old nemesis. Some years ago I got an interview at Lane Cove Library, where everything went quite well until...I was asked to cover some books with contact, as that was going to be part of the job. Suffice to say it was a massacre! I completely ruined the books! Fortunately the books were crappy ones that were going to be thrown out anyway...I think. Perhaps not, either way I certainly didn't get the job! However, while volunteering at the religious library a couple of years ago I learn how to apply contact to books and this has served me well! :O)

Anyway, I better do the memes and then hit the hay I have to leave in time to drop my car off at the mechanics so it can be serviced!

3. What's the highest hill or mountain you've ever climbed? Well, the family went up Ben Nevis while on the Round the World Trip back in 1993, it's technically a mountain, so that one I guess. (Although it's only just a mountain. ;O)

4. Do you have a piggy bank? No I have a chicken bank! But I think there's only 30 cents in there, I've been slacking.

6. Could you ever hand milk a cow? Could I? Well, I guess? Would I want to, hell no.

7. Which was your favorite science? Biology, Physics or Chemistry? Well...I guess...chemistry? Although I couldn't do it worth a damn, but the dissection possibilities in Biology kind of put me off that...and I didn't even try to do Physics!

8. Have you ever had a surprise party? (that was an actual surprise) Not me, but I've been part of successful surprise parties for someone else!

9. Have you ever warn clothing with the labels/tags still attached? Yep, I kept the little bag with the spare button attached to one of my coats for like a year once!

10. Have you ever slipped on a banana skin? I don't think so, but I'm quite sure I slipped on an orange peel once.

10:46pm: You won't believe what showed up today in my car...my Fit Bit! How bizarre, I swear I checked it very carefully yesterday and saw no sign of it. But this afternoon when I went out to the gym - after going to all the trouble of picking up Mum's one and having to dash to get my orthodics (which I was late for, whoops) - there it was lying there between the driver's seat and door. So weird, but I'm most thankful! Thanks, St Anthony, I didn't even have to pray directly to you this time. :O)

In other news, I discovered this afternoon that the black pants I wear for my carer work had worn away in the groinal region, and there was now a whole in them. Well shit. However, after finding the Fit Bit my luck continued as I went to the Vinnies in Brookvale and managed to find a pair there that fit very well for only 5 bucks. That's a relief!

Moving on, the weather has been ridiculously good this week, with clear skies and warm weather, a little too warm even I had to turn the air-con on in my car! But it still gets cold in the evening, plus it's supposed to get colder early next week, so I shan't be putting my scarves away any time soon.

What else...I used the new vacuum cleaner today after letting it charge for 24 hours, it works pretty well, especially on the laminate flooring in here. Not sure about the carpet though, then again my bedroom area is still a bit messy so I wasn't able to vacuum with abandon in there. I'm looking forward to trying out the dust buster bit in my car, which is looking a bit worse for wear.

And now I better check what memes need to be done before heading off to bed - tomorrow is skating day so I have to be up early so I can get my washing done!

Storage

How do you store your books? On bookcases? In piles? In piles on bookcases? Are they sorted? Do you know where everything is? What’s the most creative storage you’ve seen or used for your books?

In bookcases! At least here at the Granny Flat, and I have sortered most of them in a generally comprehendable sort of of order, not full-on alphabetical, but mostly so and by subject. At the Newtown apartment though, I use crates, which is sort of irritating because if I want a book at the back I have to pull the whole crate out and sometimes they're heavy!
As for the most creative way I've seen books stored is on a shelf that seems to be invisible, so it's like the books are floating up there! Quite amazing.

Friday5

Fresh Catch

1. What were your feelings the last time you stood on a scale? Well, it was less than the time I got on it a week before so I was pleased, but then when I found out that I'm shorter than I thought and looked up my BMI I found I was technically slightly overweight, whoops.

2. In what ways are you old schoool, and in what ways are you new school? My music preferences fer sure. As for how I'm new school...uh...I don't think I'm new school in any way.

3. What big event is coming down the pike for you? Well, my training shifts at the Pittwater Library continue which is a rather big event, oh! And getting into the Casual Pool - officially - at Warringah Library. Apart from that, nothing big in the near future.

4. In which social situations do you thrive, and in which do you flounder? I thrive in small social situations, with a couple of friends or even people I don't know that well, however in big crowds or official occasions I'm usually the complete opposite, not able to talk much and very anxious!

5. When was the last time a fad hooked you? Uh...well I've kind of got into Hetalia which is a bit of a fad in Japan right now. Also My Little Pony, but as far as fashion or whatever, I'm not one for fads, they change too fast and it's too expensive to keep up anyway! :OP

Right those are the only two memes up, so I guess that's my cue to exit.

Oh wait, on a final note, my new orthodics are so comfortable! Man, I really needed those things...Big relief to finally have them let me tell you.

Goodnight all!

11:05pm: Of my shift at the library in Mona Vale. Good times, good times! I parked in the Park and Ride across from the main shops, although I ended up having to park all the way at the other end since it was pretty full when I got there. It wasn't that bad although, it was chilly out when my shift was over, at least I had my gloves to wear.

Anyway, working in a library, aaah! The books! The atmosphere, the returns. Good times, good times! Although I was quite tired by the end of the day, come on me, get with it! I have at least realised that I can go home in between Mrs S's and the library, which means I can have lunch, good to know since I was trying to figure out what I was going to do about that.

And taking a look at the time I see I've let things slip away from me! Yikes, I need to get myself to bed! So this is going to be a rather awkwardly short entry, sorry about that.

I'll have more to say tomorrow, I hope...

In the meantime a good day to you, my friends, and a goodnight to me! :OP

10:40pm: Thus I can't even think clearly about what I want to say in this entry! Not that anything super important happened today, except it briefly looked like I was going to get my first shift at Dee Why Library. However, as it turned out someone was all ready covering the shift for next Monday, so I'll have to wait for a while longer.

Tomorrow however is my first shift at Mona Vale, and I'm still wondering what to do about getting there, what with the parking situation in the area. I sort of feel that I should use public transport when possible, but since I have to change my clothes after working at Mrs S's that means I either have to haul them around with me, or go home afterwards to change - which seems a bit of a waste of time...I'll basically have to turn right around the second I do that. So, I don't know. I'm currently thinking I could take the car to Mrs. S's park in the All-Day Park and Ride parking lot next to her house, catch the bus to Mona Vale which has the added benefit of me been able to catch the bus back there after the library shift and not have to worry about the buses synching up to get me home.

I do make things convoluted for myself...maybe I can just Google and see if there are untimed parking spots in Mona Vale closer to the library.

Hmmm, what else to report? Not a lot, I did catch the replay of the last stage of Le Tour de France and wouldn't you know it? It looked promising for the Aussies, with one of our riders in the lead and thus able to win the stage, but there were still two laps to go, and by that time the rest of the sprinters had got to the front and the Aussie was nowhere to be seen. Ah well, you can only do your best.

Right, I better wrap this up, tomorrow is going to be a long day and I need to get the right amount of shuteye.

Wish me luck!

Goodnight!

10:50pm: Today was the day of the on-site induction at Mona Vale Library, hooray! It included getting to know the returns system, which is rather hi-tech, with an electronic pad that can read the barcodes of more than one book at a time just by placing them on it. Also shelving! Although, I didn't actually do any work on the desk, whoops! However! I have four shifts come up on successive Tuesdays so I'm sure I'll end up on it pretty soon.

The only problem, I'm not sure what to do with the car situation, I took the car today, but parked a fair distance from the library and I'm not sure if there's any non-timed parking spots closer to the building. However, in the winter at least, there's the issue where it's dark by the time my shift will finish (since I can only work in the afternoons). Soooo, what to do, what to do?

But it's all very exciting! They'd all ready had pigeon holes marked with our names and everything! :O) The only downside is they took photos for our ID Badges (I guess) and I have a couple of rather nasty pimples on my chin! Aw man...how embarrassing. Maybe I should go see a dermotologist or something, I feel I've been lied to, I mean we were always told that pimples were a teenage problem, ha, I think not.

Anyway, it's Embarrassing Bodies night tonight and I have to ask...do men really have no problem giving sperm samples in any location? Because on this show they often have them just going into a public toilet and giving one for the doctors to examine. I mean seriously? How can they do that in a public toilet? I'd think the location would be enough to put you off.

And that's pretty much all I have to report for today, it's been a busy day! I wonder how I'll go next Tuesday when I'll be working from 8:30 to 6pm, although there will be a two hour break in between, maybe I'll have to learn the art of a power nap! :OP

Oh and I almost forgot...as I was driving to work this morning I was making a turn when a car came out of nowhere (at least to me O.o) and we almost ran into each other! To make matters worse we were going in the same direction and I was kind of worried there was going to be a road rage incident. Whoever was in the car not only honked me at the near collision, but later on - for no reason that I can think of - eventually we went our separate ways. But I was left to wonder...was I the one at fault or were they? I swear I looked both ways before beginning the turn. Maybe they came out of a driveway. Hmpf, I'll have to be careful!

For now, though, goodnight!

11:06pm: That was the result of the pre-work medical I had today, hooray! :O) Although, apparently I'm only 158cm tall! When did this happen? I thought I was at least 163cm, damn...

I did have to mention my medication for ADHD and anxiety though, since I'm useless at lying, or should we say concealing unfavourable facts. This hopefully won't have any effect on me getting in the Casual pool, least of all because I think that's rather illegal. Although I'm reminded that I'm currently on the Disability Pension...should I still be on that thing? I have no idea. I guess when I tell Centrelink about my new positions they'll decide. But it's confusing because people in the Casual Pool have no set hours, so going off Centrelink payments all together...I guess I can live, although there goes saving up for a car! It'll be like five years before I save up a deposit!

Speaking of the car...I'm trying to figure out if I should take it or not, tomorrow is the On-site Induction at Mona Vale Library, but I'm not all that sure it'll be worth taking the car because I'm not sure where I'd park it. I imagine that time limited parking will be in place for most of the roads around the library, I don't want to end up parking like fifteen minutes away! But then...I'd rather not carry my work clothes all over the place. These are the decisions I have to make! :OP

And I need to get myself to bed! This has been a very short entry indeed, sorry about that, Wednesday is a busy day TV viewing wise and I just lose track of time!

10:30pm: Alas no...it was all planned out, but alas Great Aunt Mary ended up accidentally leaving her purse behind at the house she's been staying at (my Great Aunt Margaret's house actually, although Great-Aunt Margaret is away) up at Church Point and Mum asked me to go and get it after work, since work is about 10 minutes closer to Church Point then Mum and Dad are.

So, off I went and the road there is quite wind-y, I've never actually driven to Aunt Margret's place, only ever been a passenger, plus the manual car can make going up hills a pain so it probably took me a little longer than otherwise. :OP

But I got there and got the purse and doing this good deed had the benefit of earning me lunch (Aunt Mary shouted me) at the Beachside club in Collaroy, yum! I had the kid's fish and chips - because adult serves are just too large! - an iced chocolate and dessert! Although I didn't eat all of the latter, actually I've got half the chocolate caramel slice here to eat. Actually, it's more than half, but it came with a scoop of ice cream...I can only eat so much, man!

What else to report? Not much! Except I wasn't able to go to the doctor's today because I needed to make an appointment, so I'll be going tomorrow instead. I also realised this morning that only one library wants me to have a pre-employment check, turns out I can't read as I somehow didn't notice the Warringah library logo at the top of the page...whoops.

I also forgot to call Dee Why and ask if they want me to come in tomorrow or Friday, or what, man I'm a forgetful one.

Finally, I managed to embarrass myself a bit by forgetting to take my keys with me when I headed out to return Mrs. S's hat, which doesn't fit, thus locking myself out of my own house! Fortunately N was home so he was able to let me in,otherwise I don't know what I'd do!

Further to that, it turns out the hat - which is a one size fits all kind of deal - has a way to making it smaller, so I didn't return it, I'll take it back to Mrs S tomorrow and see if that works, because it's a really nice hat!

Right, bed calls so I better be off! Before I go though...I saw this meme on Facebook today and laughed for like a minute straight.

10:34pm: OK, that subject is a little dramatic, but I have good reason for it! Namely, I finally got into gear and went to see the podiatrist (yes! He was able to see me today) where I explained the weird pain I've been having in my left butt/upper thigh area. He thought there could be a few reasons for it - firstly, my orthodics are 8 years old, but they really should be replaced - so I had to get my feet cast and I pick up the new ones in two weeks - secondly, my current ones have worn away quite a lot, particularly the left one, which is supposed to be built up slightly because my left leg is 7mm shorter than my right and thirdly the clutch of the car!

Yeah, as embarrassing as it is, apparently, it's a thing that can happen, operating a clutch is different from operating the break and accelerator, which explains why my right leg doesn't hurt from working those pedals. Anyway, he recommended that I either move my seat slightly forward or slightly back to change the way the muscles are been used. Although, hopefully now that he put some material to build up the left one so I'm not lopsided anymore the muscles will stop hurting anyway.

Hmpf, I told you manual cars are a hazard! :OP

So, as a result of that I had to pay up quite a bit of money - since I don't have private health insurance at the moment, although the one I used to have doesn't even cover podiatry! I think I need to sign up with some other place. I paid most of it today, and I'll pay the rest - about $200 when I go pick up the orthodics.

I also had the opportunity to pop into Stanton Library and pay off my library fines - $10.60 damn! Before I headed for the gym, alas no swimming today, firstly my towel was still damp and secondly I decided to wait until after see the podiatrist in case I was told to take it easy because of the muscle pain. But I got my weights done today, go me. :OP

However, I received some not-good news from Mum - who I rang up to ask about whether she had a spare kettle, because the one here at the flat leaks when you pour it - apparently N, the male landlord wants to renovate the granny flat, or at least that's what C - Mum's friend and the female landlord told her. Well, shit. Apparently, there's been talk in the air of N and C possibly trying to rent the flat out to overseas students because the money is better (but that also involves doing a whole lot of stuff - like preparing meals and washing clothes etc), and Mum thinks it might be in my best interest to look for somewhere else to live. Pain in the ass...Although I looked up granny flats in the area (since I don't really have the money to rent an apartment) and found a couple that look promising, Mum has advised me to call them up tomorrow and see what they're like, except Mum says she can't actually help me look at any so I don't no what I'm meant to do about that. Probably not a good idea to go look at strangers granny flats by myself!

Of course, the issue is with the rental market in Sydney being what it is, these places probably won't be available very long at all, but on the other...N and C often don't have good follow-through, so should I really uproot myself like this? On the other hand, living in uncertainty isn't my bag either. It's only a matter of how much I'll be out when it comes to paying bills and what the internet and TV situation at these places would be.

In other news, the was drama at work this morning, not ten minutes after I arrived the power went out! In the whole suburb not just the house, which meant not only was there no heat in the bathroom there was no hot water at all! Since Mrs S needs to use a shower chair or a wheelchair it wasn't feasible to help her into the wheelchair and then wait til the power came back and transfer her to the shower chair for a shower. Even more unfortunate today was toilet day so we had to improvise. Fortunately, Mrs S's stove runs on gas and her husband was able to get it going with a lighter and boil some water so we ended up with a "sponge bath" sort of arrangement. Which all went well, phew! Of course, the power came back only a few moments before I was going to transfer Mrs S to the wheelchair. Ah well, what can you do? At least it meant I could make Mrs S's toast!

So yes, a very busy day indeed, but I shall do a Friday meme or two before I wrap this up:

Friday5

Looking For Alaska

1. Alaska’s motto is “North to the future.” Where’s somewhere north you’ll be traveling some time in the future? Uh...I don't think I'll be travelling any time soon...although the Mona Vale Library is north, so I guess we'll count that. :OP

2. Alaska is the westernmost of the United States. What’s the farthest west you’ve been in your country? That would be Adelaide, which is more south, but I've never been to Western Australia so there you go.

3. Alaska’s state flower is the forget-me-not. What’s something you really need to remember to take care of before the weekend’s up? Cleaning my bedroom area and making sure the main area here in the flat is still nice and clean, no backsliding me!

4. Alaska has cities named Chicken, Beaver, Pelican, Eagle, Badger, and Bear Creek. What place names near where you live are named after animals? Hmmm...well it's a bit of a distance away but the only place I can think of in Sydney is Emu Plains.

5. What’s something interesting you know about Alaska? It was originally part of Russian territory until being sold to the US in 1867 (I think?). Can you imagine Russia and the US exchanging land in this day and age?!

Or meme, apparently the others aren't up yet, but it is almost 11:30 so I best be wrapping this up so I can go to bed sooner rather than later.

Goodnight all!

10:16pm: Eeee, I have very, very, very exciting news...

Can you guess what it is?

No? I'll tell you! I got a call today...from Pittwater Library! Actually I missed the first call and when I rang back I got the person's message bank, but right at the end of the Chinese meal I was having with Mum and my grandparents the person called me back and...

Offered me a spot in the Library Assistant Casual Pool!

OH MAH GAWD! My foot is in the door! :OD This is such wonderful news! I hope I'll do a good job whenever I get to work, although first I have to do the induction and what not, part of it's online, but the other part will be face to face.

Hip hip hooray! :OD

Before this, I got a really unexpected and nice surprise from Mrs. S, to thank me for all the getting up early in the morning and what not for the moving, This adorable doll! It's from Peru, her mother picked it up before coming for her visit. Handmade and everything. So cute, and the little alpaca really makes it. Now I have to find a nice place to put it and take a photo.

Also, I didn't have to buy towels, because as it turned out the ones I bought for me to use in Newtown was in my grandparent's garage, I don't know why my mother put them in there...also, we went to Vinnies and managed to find some decent jeans, a gray top and a black jacket (to replace the one that died the other week).

So yes! Definitely a successful day! Which was most welcome considering that this morning started with some slight bad luck in the form of me forgetting to bring the cupcakes with me! I shall have to make a fresh batch from the frozen batter for Monday, which I think will probably work out better (I took the cupcakes to the grandparents house since I stopped by to change into my jeans - which brought on Mum's decision that I needed to get some decent looking ones - on the way to their place).

Of course...I'm still thinking of the car, although Grandpa's advice is to have $10,000 saved before looking and Mum thinks I should go through a used car dealer rather than a private seller because the little bro doesn't much care for Dad's car so we should trade it in. Which was a surprise, although, all the cars I'd looked at so far were private sellers. Or at least, that's what I thought, somehow, that green Citreon I favoured on Gumtree didn't show up on my phone so I forgot about it. It's priced at $5,000 and is from a dealer...I feel like I should bring this up...but then I don't want to harp on it.

And lastly...I forgot about Wimbledon! Milos Raonic, aka The Sleeve is playing against an Aussie (who oddly is also wearing a sleeve!) but the game has only just started and I'm all ready sleepy...

Although it is in fact one set all, but that's still pretty early in a best of 5 sets...Anyway, in a rather un-Australian declaration I want The Sleeve to win! Because he is awesome and the Aussie guy is a bit of an asshole and not in a fun John McEnroe way.

Anyway, I'm gonna wrap this up here, because like I said sleepy!

Goodnight all!

ETA: Oh and of course, a red letter date in the history of film, Happy 30th Anniversary Back to the Future!!

9:55pm: Although it's not me in the driver seat, yes, alas the green Hyundai Getz has been sold to someone else, just when I was thinking, what the Hell I'd look at a car loan (actually, that was a bit of an accident, I accidentally sent in a request for a quote). Bah humbug! I told my mother this sad news, but she's still of the opinion I should wait a year and keep driving Dad's old car. I dunno though, I've seen some other cars that look sort of promising, but I shan't be getting a car loan, no point in that.

In other news, I made some frosting for the rest of my cupcakes to take over to Mrs S's place tomorrow, and it would appear my instructions were not followed by my family at Cousin Mack's birthday - four of my silcone cupcake cases are missing! Terrible! I better call Uncle Sam about that, once I get his number because apparently I never did that when I lost all my phone contacts.

Also rather sad news...my betta fish, Ned III was at the bottom of his tank this morning, looking decidedly...out of shape...but I wasn't sure...however when I got home after work and the library it couldn't be denied that he had gone to the big fish bowl in the sky. He's lived so long too, such a shame. I wonder if I should buy a new betta fish, if only because I have a lot of Betta Fish food left over and I did like having a fish around. Perhaps I could get a green one!

What else to report? I'm a little concerned about the left side of my lower back and hip, I've been having muscle pain when I move in certain ways. I don't know what to think of this, I can't help thinking it's a result of driving the manual car - since I have to push the clutch with my left leg, but surely not? Perhaps it's the way I'm sitting on my couch when I'm on my laptop, because it's really not ergomatic! I really should sit at a table or something like a normal person. Or at least put my laptop on my lap on one of those tables, except my one is over at Newtown, I think, do'h.

Anyway, I better finish putting the frosting on the cupcakes before the new episode of Embarrassing Bodies begins! Or maybe this ep is it, although that doesn't make sense because I've all ready seen it.

I bid you all goodnight!

9:33pm: Damn, the year is certainly going by fast, although these past few weeks haven't, I think it must be the moving and whatnot, I keep thinking it's Thursday. I'm not too displeased though, because I'm not liking how fast time goes in one's adult years. :OP

In other news, I haven't heard from Pittwater Library yet, which has left me a little concerned, I hope they ring! I'm sure the Inter-Library Loans Co-ordinator gave me a glowing reference, so...hire me! :OP

What else to report? Working at Mrs S's new house is interesting, the bedroom is so much bigger, but the bathroom is somewhat smaller, and the shower is closed in, but all was managed in good time. :O)

Oh and I also discovered my suspicious was right, I've been wearing my Fitness thing on my wrist too tightly, which explains why I've been waking up with my left hand numb and buzzing. Gee, I wonder if that could have caused permanent damage!

Oh and I got paid today, which was rather surprising because I usually don't get paid until Thursdays, so now I have $2,000 in my savings, yay! Although that's still $6,550 less than I need for that green Getz...at this rate it'll be another twelve weeks before I have enough. Shame. I did look up cars this evening for no particular reason and there are a few other green Getz's around, but there all out of state and we've got huge-ass states here in Australia.

However, I shan't be taking the car tomorrow because I want to see how taking the bus will go, I checked my app today and apparently there's a bus that will get me there at 8:25 - I'll need to catch the E78 at 7:51am instead of 7:37am - which is probably cutting it a bit close, but let's see how it goes!

I don't have much else to say, I'm watching the Last Leg on the ABC, so I best concentrate on that so I don't miss any of the jokes!

Goodnight for now!

9:24pm: So I'm watching a doco about this guy who killed his wife's teenage lover in the head and somehow managed to get off without any time served. Seriously, what the fuck? I didn't think that "She's having an affair, my masculinity!" defense flew these days? Plus, you know, he didn't shot his wife, he shot the third party.

Now admittedly having an affair with your student is fucked up, but I put it to the US Justice System that it's somewhat less fucked up then shooting said student in the head.

Basically what seems to have happened is the jury decided that it was the wife's fault for being a dirty whore so they let the husband off for murder. I find this rather offensive to justice.

Now I'm watching a doco called Dead Again, which is about two experienced detectives reinvestigating controversial murder cases, although I find it rather hard to believe these guys wouldn't know about this particular case (it's a big ass case) and they're not supposed to know about the case beforehand.

Moving on, today was the big day, moving day! It was all systems go and I'm quite surprised and impressed at how the moving guys managed to fit everything in the truck! It must have been like Tetris in there, LOL.

It took quite a while though and not everything is packed, basically most of the plates and whatnot in the kitchen, but it's not like someone else is moving into their old house tomorrow or something (not like with me!) so this isn't a huge problem.

Also, admittedly I had to put quite a few things in my car, but nothing too heavy or anything like that and Mrs S very kindly bought me lunch.

In other news, my feet are cold! The internet tells me that the best way to clear up the athlete's foot, beyond using the anti-fungal spray is to keep my feet bare and exposed to the air, which really sucks when it's winter, I've got the heater on but it's still chilly. It seems to be clearing up, so fingers crossed.

What else to report? Not much, although I did realise why I was running so low on money and had to dip into my savings, I never paid myself back for some expenses I had to cover for my parents whilst they were away. However, a new expense will be coming up soon, I'll be paying for half the Foxtel, which I guess is fair enough, it'll be about $45 a month.

Oh! And I rang about the Lifetime Health Cover Loading thing and have been assured by my Health provider that my suspended membership will keep me from getting slugged for not been covered. I sure hope that's right...I don't want to call Centrelink because it takes over half an hour to answer, if they do at all. I suppose I could go in in person, it's still a long wait but at least they get back to you!

Finally, Wimbledon started last night, but alas, Little Lleyton didn't make it through, he's still playing Doubles though and this was his 17th Wimbledon! Gotta applaud the man for that. And he got lots of kudos from the greats of the game, hooray!

I only just remembered that it's on so I've quickly switched over to watch, it's a nice day in London! And of course you can't beat the class that are tennis whites on a grass court. Right now I'm watching Rafal Nadal go up against some kid I've never heard of, wonder how that'll go!

And lastly, I went through my apps on my mobile and discovered what was probably behind me running out of data this month, I had most of them on 'auto-update'! Damn, I though I told them not to do that, very irritating. Oh well, July starts tomorrow so I'll be able to use Mobile Data once more, and thank God for that because The Simpsons: Tapped Out doesn't work all that well through wi-fi. At least not here.

Right, I better be off now, although I don't have to start work until 9:30am tomorrow, Mrs S says we all need to recover from today! Still, can't stay up too late, even if the Fed-Ex is up on Centre Court after the women's match.

For now I bid you all, goodnight!

9:18pm: LOL, yes, it's a little weird, but Aunt Weed very kindly bought me a present! I'm not entirely sure why, I guess she was feeling generous. And a very nice gift it was too, some Derwent pencils and one of those Adult Colouring Books that have been taking the world by storm. Apparently they're good for de-stressing, good times.

Oh! And there was also presents from the parental units in the form of souvineers from their travels! I got the cutest things, which I will show you pictures of tomorrow. Suffice to say Prince Consort Albert is involved!

I certainly could have used that today, because my plans for getting my hair done did not go as planned, I got there at 10am, which was a bit later than I meant to, then I discovered the Just Cuts at the Mall was no longer there! Of course, there's other hairdressers there so I went looking and I probably picked the wrong one. It was a bigger one, so I thought there'd be more staff there, I probably should have kept looking when I was told I couldn't be seen until 10:30, but it seemed there'd still be enough time. And it probably would have, if not for the fact that I waited in the chair for almost half an hour before they even got started on me! Obviously, I should have said something...but yeah, I didn't.

I had arranged to meet my little bro at the corner near the Mall so I could drive him to Uncle Sam's place at 11am, but I was going to SMS to let him know I was on my way, imagine my dismay when I got an SMS from him saying he was waiting on the corner! And at that point the hairdresser hadn't even started blowdrying my hair!

He was willing to wait, but son of a bitch, the hairdresser's were slow - one did the wash and blow drying and a second one did the trimming and the straightening - I suppose the fact there were like four other women in their getting their hair dyed may have had something to do with it.

In the end, my mother called to tell me Dad was coming to pick up my little bro - I'd actually suggested he'd get the bus, but apparently Dad wanted to show off his new car or something ;O) my hair was finally done by 12:10 and with a quick stop at Woolworths to get Dollop Cream for my cupcakes, I rushed back to the parking lot for my car.

It was a bit confusing when I saw my brother still waiting on the corner, I went to pick him up, but Dad was right behind me, so he drove him.

Anyway, I probably didn't need to be so worried, because no-one was pissed off that we were late, I was expecting some bitching because M likes us to be on time, guess she was in a good mood.

The Thai food was good, Mack enjoyed his gift of Japanese Yen, my cupcakes were very well received, particularly with the cream on top and there was also the cake! Black Forest, yum! After all that though I didn't end up going to the gym...I'll have to go tomorrow after the library (I'll hold off on swimming for a bit since I did pay $71 for the hair straightening!).

Speaking of tomorrow, I have to wrap this entry up quickly because Mrs S needs me to come in at 7am - ewww - so I need to get up at 6:00, which means I need to be asleep by 10pm if I'm going to get my eight hours.

That being the case, I think I'll skip the memes for now and do them tomorrow instead.

11:16pm: Yep! I filled in for the other carer this morning, it went all right, I kind of forgot the proper order of somethings, though! Honestly, I don't know what to make of my brain sometimes, it can be so scattered!

Although, part of that could have been the result of the less than stellar sleep I got last night, my thoughts were full of the green Hyundai Getz, wondering if my parents would give me a loan. Also, I managed to do something with my doona and it ended all twisted up and thus I was not properly covered so woke up at like 5am freezing my person off. I've straightened it up now so hopefully tonight I'll sleep way better.

As for the loan, alas, it is not to be, since Dad only just got his new car it's not like there's any great need for me to get my own car, even if it is perfect for me, sniff. I can only hope against hope that I can keep saving and perhaps the car will stick around and maybe even the price will go down a little. Mum thinks I should be patient and surely a nice car will pop up eventually, but I dunno...I've never seen a green Hyundai Getz automatic, they all seemed to be manual (on top of been in WA LOL).

In other rather gross news, I seem to have developed a bit of athlete's foot on my left foot, between the little toe and the one next to it. It started hurting me just before I had to head off to church so I was kind of limping around. I bought some spray to treat it, which will hopefully work quickly! Apparently, in addition to this you're supposed to keep your shoes off to air your feet, which is the last thing one wants to do during the winter! And also wear thongs in public showers...except I hate thongs, they annoy the bit between my big toe and second toe. I think I have a pair of slip sandals though, I'll have to check that out.

Anyway, I need to head to bed as soon as I finish this entry because tomorrow is Mack's birthday party and I need to get to the Mall to get my hair straightened beforehand, the party starts at noon so ideally I need to get to the hairdresser's by ten because I also want a trim and my hair takes ages to straighten because it's so thick.

Before I go though...Memes!

The Other Side

What do non-reader friends think about your reading habits? Do they understand? Are they sympathetic? Or are they always trying to get you to “get your nose out of that book?”

Well, I don't really have non-reader friends, or if I do they don't comment, however! My parents certainly do, more so when I was younger when I was often told to "get my nose out of that book". Honestly, the attitude still confuses me to this day because the parents of my friends at the time were always telling them to read, and there I was doing it for fun. Pft, the grass is always greener...

Friday5

So Rank

1. What memories do you have of an old-fashioned general store? Uh...I dunno if I have any, I don't think I've patronised any old-fashioned general stores in my time. They don't really have them in Australia. There were milk bars and corner shops, and I generally remember them as been quite dark and small, but plenty of chocolate options!

2. What’s something people think incorrectly of your home state (or country) but still contains a kernel of truth? That we all talk like Steve Irwin, we don't, but we do use "mate" quite a lot and shorten people's names by adding 'o' at the end.

3. What are the major differences between you and your best (non-romantic) friend? I have more than one best friend! But probably the volume of our voices. Most of my friends have normal volume...not so much me.

4. What’s something you were the captain of? Er...gee...I dunno. I don't think I was ever captain of anything! Not even when team captains were randomly selected in PE!

5. What’s the story of your first private moment with a high-school romantic interest? N/A. :OP

The (Other) Friday Five

This week's questions are brought to you courtesy of theidolhands, the letter F, and the number 5...

Star Gazing!

1. What is your fondest memory of something related to the stars or space? Uh...scratches head...I can't really think of anything. Well maybe a group project in Year Six that involved building a model spaceship, I got on well with my team and we made a pretty good model!

2. What is a celestial body that you find particularly interesting? Saturn! First there's the rings and second the fact it's so gaseous and light it would float in a bathtub, if there was one big enough.

3. When you look at the night sky, what thoughts cross your mind? Nice, especially if it's clear and you can see the moon, To be honest though, when I was out in the country with no light pollution the number of stars I could see were positive dizzying, I didn't like that at all.

4. Have you ever seen anything weird or inexplicable up there? Nope, at least, I don't think so.

5. Would you live in space or on another planet? Maybe if I can pring my family along, but just by myself? No, I'd get way too lonely!

Right, better go now! I have to whip cream for the cupcakes I've made for Mack's birthday before I hit the hay.

10:41pm: Because don't speak it, LOL, maybe I accidentally selected the wrong option, I haven't signed in for a while.

Anyway! Today was all right, except for the lower abdominal discomfort, most unpleasant. It seems to have settled down, which is good since I'm going to bed soon.

And now I'm watching Lateline and some dude is just wandering around making citizen arrests of UberX Drivers. Like what the fuck? If someone did that for me I'd totally call the cops myself, I'm not letting some stranger "arrest" me. Who gave them that authority? And what's this guy's major malfunction anyway? I'm also finding this man irritating for no apparent reason...

Oh! And I saw my parents this evening, they're home from Melbourne with Dad's new car, which is not blue, but boring old silver :OP It is however an automatic, which I sure wish I had, especially today when I stalled the car as I was pulling out onto the main road as a rather large truck was bearing down on me.

10:45pm: I have to go to bed soon because work calls tomorrow, and I haven't done any of the memes, booo!

So I better move quick, today was lunch at the parentals, which didn't end up quite as expected because the little bro currently has a cold and therefore didn't come. Plus the parental units were being lazy and my mother hadn't even got up when I arrived! However, there was lots going on, namely after all the talk of cars the parental units were searching online for a good price on the Chery J11 and would you believe it? They found one...in Melbourne and since Mum has a friend who's son lives down there with his family, she and Dad are heading down there by plane tomorrow to purchase said car, hang out with Mum's friend and son and family and then drive the car back!

Damn, that was fast! Although apparently they'd been researching the car issue for some time...the upshot of this is that my little bro and I now have exclusive use of Dad's old car. The downshot is it's a manual, which I can drive, but it can be irritating when stuck in traffic and scary when you're trying a hill start!

But, I need a car at the moment, so I went with Mum after lunch (and the car thing was arranged) to the little bro's place to drop off some left-over Chinese and pick up Dad's car from him. Plus, it gave Mum the chance to see him since she and Dad got back.

Once I had the car I headed off to the gym, since I didn't go on Friday, but I had to skip the stretching because I forgot to give something to Mum for Dad, so I had to do that and then it was off to the pool.

I even managed to go to the Dee Why Grand afterwards to get some stuff from Coles, which necessitated going into the underground parking garage. Last time I took Dad's car down there I had a Hell of a time getting up because of the steep ramp, fortunately, it was the evening so I was able to pretty much floor it up the ramp rather than try a hill start halfway up.

So hey perhaps it won't go that bad. :OP

And before I head off, let's have a meme or two. )

Whoops and now it's almost 11:30 and I actually need to start work half an hour earlier than usual tomorrow so it's time to haul ass even if I do have the car.

10:02pm: Yes, it's Embarrassing Bodies night and on this episode is a woman who has the biggest boobs I've ever seen. Apparently, 1 in 5 women's breasts grow as a side effect of menopause, but I'm pretty sure this is a very extreme case because in the end after breast reduction surgery 6kg of excess breast tissue was removed. That's like two newborn baby's worth! God damn.

Moving on, tomorrow is the day! The parental units return! And alas, the car still has scratches on it, it was quite annoying because despite the weather report, there was no rain until the late afternoon, although even if I had applied the paint this morning I guess it wouldn't have worked, since it's really coming down out there now.

I also have other exciting news! I missed a couple of phone calls while I was at work this morning, the first was from the repair service I had to call regarding the oven at Cammeray, but the other one was from Pittwater Council. It wasn't about the job I applied for, but when I eventually got hold of the lady who called - she said thy were very impressed by my resume and want to interview me for the Casual Library Assistant pool! It's next Tuesday - at 11:15 so I'll have to leave work early - Hell yeah! :OD Fingers and toes crossed my friends, this could be me getting my foot in the door!

Speaking of the library, it was volunteer day today and alas the Inter-Library Loans Co-ordinator is still out sick, so the loans really piled up. I also needed to help with the Home Library Service - since that is ostensibly what I'm volunteering for - so in the end despite staying back later there was still work to be done. I'm going to go in tomorrow to finish up, it's mostly outgoing requests - I kind of forgot about them and 33 were waiting! I got through them, but I need to post out some books.

Now, I was planning to go to Chatswood, not just for the beanie, but because as Mrs S reminded me I was going to get my hair done for the parental return, however staying a bit later at the library, discomfort in the abdomonial area and rain put me off. Plus I remembered that I have the straightener, so I got it out and the new conditioner really seems to be working wonders...although I think I might have melted the area around the bathroom sink a bit, do'h!

Anyway, I better wrap this up, I didn't get quite enough shut-eye last night so I should catch up on it.

Man, I hope it won't be raining this hard tomorrow...because I won't have a car anymore!

And wouldn't you know it? The rain's set in and is supposed to be around until Friday...which makes applying the paint to those scratches on Mum's car next to impossible. And I went all the way to Autobarn and had the paint colour especially mixed up too! You may well say I should have done this earlier and you'd be quite right, however, it took me until now to figure out how to find out the colour code of the car. Turns out its under the hood. It took me a bit of time to figure out how to pop the hood, but eventually I did it, so that's rather a triumph!

I guess all I can do is hand the paint over when Mum and Dad get back and offer to do the touching up...it might not be raining all the time but it's on and off.

I did have something else to say...oh yeah, the hunt goes on for the grey beanie, it hasn't shown up at either of the loss property offices and wouldn't you know it? They were all sold out at the Warriewood K-Mart, shit. I'll either have to go all the way to Chatswood, or all the way to Broadway on the other side of the bridge. Mrs S's mother is here in Australia at the moment near a K-Mart, though, so she said she'd ask her to take a look if she happens to go there.

Sigh, come back to me beanie, it was so soft and nice! Sigh, at least I still have the gloves.

Anyway, it's a bit late so I better haul ass to bed.

Goodnight all!
