The Perils of Undersleeping Strike Again!
Feb. 23rd, 2019 10:27 pm9:36pm: Indeed so, despite knowing that I needed to get up early this morning because a handyman was coming over to put up the second hand shelving system Mum and I bought off Gumtree I stayed up too late last night and as a result, got less than 7 hours sleep last night.
I, however, am a person who needs closer to 8 hours to function well, so all day today I've felt very off indeed, in the middle of the day I got a headache and stomachache - right when Mum came to pick me up so we could go shopping for some new stuff for the apartment - and the rest of the time I was having trouble remembering words! Pretty much everything was just a "thingo" or "that over there", man I hope I never get Alzhemeiers, because losing one's words sucks.
Anyway, I survived the shopping trip and picked up a new coverlet and European pillow cases for my bed (so I'll be cycling from Pusheen to "I'm a grown up" now LOL. Apart from the coverlet and pillow cases, which are in a lovely mint green, I also got two new pillows, which...I'm not actually going to use, because they're mostly for show, which seems weird so maybe I will get round to using them eventually.
Anyway, here's the bed in it's "I'm an adult" mode - although I must say Mum picked a bad angle because my butt sure looks big there :OP
But the really exciting thing is not the bed, but shelving unit! It was really awesome when I came across it on Gumtree for only $350, it's an Elfa and buying it new would cost upwards of $1000! Mum and I went out on Thursday after work to pick it up from the other side of the Bridge, which took a while because the owner's daughter got held up. Although, I did get a nice Chinese dinner with Mum, so that was cool.
Then yesterday, our new handyman came over to put them up, but unfortunately, he doesn't have much experience putting up things on walls and he couldn't find metal studs in the wall of the Wintergarden. Not with the stud finder, not even with drilling small exploratory holes in the wall. Which was a huge blow, because Mum and I can hardly put up the shelves ourselves! He suggested I use Airtasker - which I have heard of - to find someone (since the Elfa guy who used to work for Howard's Storage World at the Mall no longer works there) who had more experience putting up these shelving units. Which proved to be a very good idea, although the guy I got couldn't come until today.
Our other handyman did put up my vacuum cleaner - it's one of those cordfree ones you put in a charger when not using, which was good. Later on the electrician came and put up the heater towel rail up in the bathroom, it's looking pretty fab I must say. Plus now I have a warm towel, although I don't really need it in the summertime.
So yes, the AirTasker man came today just after 8:30am, with Mum arriving at the same time and at first he couldn't figure out where the wall studs were either! At that point I was very bummed out and put my head in my hands which concerned the handyman, poor guy! Mum told me to remain calm, and she was sure there would be a way to put it up.
And indeed there was! Seems the gyprock wall is exceptionally thick, but there were studs in there and soon enough the shelving unit was up, the man was paid and I was able to take most of the books out of my storage wardrobes and put them up.
Oh! And I also got a new desk to put out in the Wintergarden (Mum picked it up at Fantastic Furniture) and we put it together - which was pretty neat and now...
My Wintergarden looks like this! Pretty fabulous huh? Although it is subject to change once the proper air con gets put it, plus the blinds in three of the four banks of windows.
But now I can have guests around :O) like my Uncle, Aunt and cousin, as well as Mrs S.
The first one (that isn't Mum) will be Dad, who'll come over after church tomorrow.
And a last photo - my old bed, where Mum has banished my soft toys :OP for now at least - she slept on it on Thursday night and said it wasn't so bad. So if anyone ever stays over here's where you'll sleep.
Anyway, on that note I shall be off since I need to catch up on my zzzs! Hopefully I'll update soon because I didn't mention the interview I had on Thursday for the Collections Assistant role, although it's not that thrilling :OP
For now though, goodnight!
