Let's Get Quacking!
Jan. 19th, 2014 11:49 pm10:53pm: Ha ha, good pun if I do say so myself and very apt!
I went to work today as usual and it was good, I planned once again to go to the gym, since I didn't go yesterday. However, I was reminded of the Duck for some reason and decided that I really should visit it before it goes. I thought it might be here for another week, but on looking up the website on my phone I found today was the last day! I'd have to go straight to Parramatta (which is a fair way away about an hour and a bit in the bus from the city) if I was going to make it!
So I decided to do that...however, an issue cropped up when I changed buses, I had brought along my new lunch bag and had put my lunch box in it, it fit perfectly, but alas the bag itself did not fit in my gym bag and you can see where this is going right? When I changed my bus to get one to the city I left it behind! D:
Problem was when I firsf realised I didn't have it when I arrived at the bus stop for the bus to Parramatta I thought I'd left it in the second bus, not the first, so I decided to go after it. I managed to find it in the bus yard at Central and the bus driver let me on to check even though he hadn't found anything. At which point I realised I must have left the bag on the first bus! Crap!
So back I went to the bus stop I needed to be at to get the Parramatta bus and I must have just missed it because I was waiting a very long time, like half an hour! Lucky for me I'd bought some water at the nearby 7-11 which was when I'd realised I'd left my lunch bag behind, because it was very hot today.
The bus eventually came, but alas it was only a small red bus and lots of people got on and it was standing room only and as we set off I started to have second thoughts. Very anxious thoughts...very, very anxious thoughts especially as we headed up the overpass to the ANZAC Bridge. Long story short, there was scratching and blood and I almost got off the very next stop, but I quote a few people got off so I got a seat, which I thought would help with things. I still felt pretty bad, I tried to eat my carrot bit it didn't really help and I almost gave up again! But I kept on goingand soon felt OK, except for the fact my poor phone was swiftly running low on battery, I'd charged it at the newsagency, but I'd been reading a book on it which drains the power quickly. So I got on theFind a Word book I got from the newsagency and got busy with that.
So I got to Parramatta, where I managed to get lost trying to find the park I needed to go to! Even when I pulled up Google Maps in my phone, which did my phone battery no favours. At least I got my exercise in, I suppose...
But this lead to the second bad luck, after getting general directions I finally spotted the yellow form of the Duck in the distance and hurried towards it, but by this time my battery was all but dead! I thought I might still be able to take a photo because it was still light out so no flash was needed, but...no. I tried turning the phone off and then back on because I heard that can do things with batteries, but no dice, it wouldn't turn on then and there wasn't a power point to be seen. Or as there?
Things looked up when I saw the food van, I hurried over and asked if I could plug the phone in, the man said he was leaving soon, bit I was welcome too. But wouldn't you know it? He'd been there all day and his generator finally stopped. And I hadn't got much of a charge at all!
So now I was in a huge mess! I'd come all this way and now I'd have no duck pictures! What a waste! But then I realsied I was surrounded by cameras, and I screwed up my courage to explain my situation to two different people who kindly agreed to take a photo of me with the Duck and email them to me right then and there! Many years ago I'd done much the same thing for some people at Olympic Park when the torch was there, except I had to email the photo when I got home.
But yes! Thanks to the wonders of 3g here's the two pictures!
Not the best fashion statement, but look at that adorable giant Duck! But really he belongs in Darling Harbour in the heart of the Harbour where he can be easily enjoyed. I shall suggest the festival so that next time.
So yes! Task completed, but phew! Now all that's left is to cross my fingers and call the relavent bus depot and hope my lunch bag is there. Seriously...I need to tether everything to my person...
But I've realised I haven't had a chance to watch My Little Pony today, nuts! Oh well, what can you do? It's Homes Under the Hammer time right now.
And I shall Meme tomorrow, for now...I say goodnight!
