12:48pm: Bookshelves!

Most of the crap on my floor is books, which I like to pick up and read parts of at various times (yeah, I'm a bit weird...), so I don't like to keep them in The Box, because that would mean having to go downstairs every time!

So yeah, there's nowhere to keep the books, so they end up all over the floor, now if I had a nice bookshelf or two I could put them there out of the way.

I've been meaning to pop down to Ikea (where the furniture is cheap, but not too poor of quality) to investigate all this.

The only problem is, you have to put together the shelves yourself (well, you don't, but there's no way I could transport them in my car if they were esembled) and I'm not good at that sort of thing. Which means I'd have to have someone, probably Grandpa come over to build them, and that would necessitate cleaning up all the books by taking them down to the Box anyway!

Well, whatever, I'm definitely gonna check it out...question is, should I ask my mother for her imput? She'll probably advise me not to buy the shelves, so...

Anywho...the 12 Days Continue!

Five Gold Rings

The children of George III were many…fifteen in all!

Sadly, two of the sons had died in their infancy, but thirteen was still quite a number…and six of them girls!

The six Princesses were considered quite handsome, two of them even earned the title of beautiful.

Now, usually, having six daughters to marry off to various European princes would be considered quite lucky, a chance for making dynastic connections. However, George III had the examples of his poor sisters and their unhappy marriages. The youngest had had such a miserable time of it, she ended up having an affair and banished from her husband’s court, only to die young, never seeing her children again.

“We cannot have it,” he declared to his wife, Queen Charlotte, “we cannot have our dear girls ending up like my sisters. It cannot happen, what?”

Queen Charlotte, was not quite sure about this, the elder princesses often talked about their future husbands…whoever they might be. But since the King’s illness…it was wise not to contradict him too much.

“We will have to be very careful who we choose for them,” she ventured after some thought.

“Hmm, yes…there have not been many applications…except if you will remember, my dear, from Denmark!”

Queen Charlotte still couldn’t quite believe it, Denmark! Where His Majesty’s youngest sister had gone and been made so miserable!

“Quite a nerve, what? Good that we did not answer that one, I think.”

The Queen was not quite sure, after all, she had heard that the Prince Regent of Denmark was nothing like his father. But he had married last year, so it was too late for second thoughts.

Finally she ventured to say. “But we must remember, sir, even our youngest are quickly coming up to being of marriageable age.”

The King hmpfed, obviously not really wanting to remember that. “I suppose you are right, dear, Minny is fifteen all ready! And Sophy, fourteen. Thankfully it will be quite a while before we need consider losing dearest Emily.”

The Queen nodded in agreement, Amelia was of course always a comfort to the King, the youngest of the family and his favourite.

Still, five husbands should be found for other daughters, sooner rather than later she was sure.

Alas, where to find good princes! It was not as easy as it looked, being royal.

Well, I'm sure you'll thank me for the history lesson ;O)

Anywho, that's all I have to say right now.
