Hey my US friends, how do subjects in High School work over there? Like do you have to do the same number of hours for each subject? Or do some subjects need less (I'm wondering 'cause The HO's journal has him in High School, and so I don't want to get mixed up so I have to draw up him a timetable and stuff), like they're only on three times a week, instead of four, or are the subjects on every day? Here in Aus, as far as I know every school is on a two week timetable, which means usually one week we'd have a subject three times, but the second week we'd have it four times, if that makes any sense whatsoever.

In other news, it's been over the net well OK, all over [livejournal.com profile] martyfan and [livejournal.com profile] darkjediprinces LJ entries, this bizarre plan for women's health. Actually the not smoking, getting plenty of calicium and exercise isn't really the problem so much as the reason behind it. They're not saying it should be done for a woman's own health, but for a hypothetical baby she may become pregnant with. Errr...what? I can't do that! First of all I'm not planning to have a baby, second of all, if I was to follow this plan, I would have to stop taking my medication (which could interfer with featl development), and since I'm not going to engage in any potiental baby-making activities I hardly think it'd be fair to make me feel bad for been on something like that!

It's also kind of insulting! I mean smoking, diabetes and so on can really screw up a man's sperm count and the health of said sperm, is there a corresponding article about how men have to keep themselves ever-viliglant 'cause hey he never knows when he might impregnante a woman? I'm thinking not.

But anyway, as I said, there's nothing wrong with encouraging women (and men) to be healthy, but don't bring reproduction into it unless it's warranted! I mean geeze, I'd assume women would wish to be healthy whether they're having children or not, I mean telling them not to binge drink or whatever for the sake of a fetus that doesn't actually exist will no doubt piss 'em off. Hell, I'm kinda pissed off about it, because it's not very respecful to women, it sounds like they don't care about women at all, only the babies! Also, as I understand it, America does not have a National Health System like Australia (here in Aus, if you're poor you can go to the doctor's for free, everyone pays taxes for this purpose), so it's kinda rich to ask women to do all this stuff and not offer them an inexpensive means to do it!

Well, whatever, in news that will no doubt cheer all women up, here in Aus, scientists are in (hopefully) the last stages of the Male Pill! Someday, women will be asking the guy if they've taken their pill this evening, and if not no cake for you! :OP

Anyway! It's almost midnight so you all know what that means:

3x Thursday

Medicine (Ah, the irony!)

1. Are there medicines you have to take everyday? If so, is it a drag?

Yessir, I wouldn't say it's a drag, but sometimes I forget whether I've taken them or not, which is a big problem because you can't just double up the dose, if on the other hand I don't take them it makes me dizzy and stuff. So, I try to make sure I take them at the same time every morning, right after breakfast.

2. Are you more of a Western medicine fan, or Eastern? Wny/why not?

Well, massaage is a very good way to get the muscles healing...but I can't afford it!
But I mostly do the Western Medicine thing, which could be due to laziness, because I notice Easter medicine often involves a lot of activity by the patient (being in the right frame of mind and so forth) and we all know how lazy I am!

3. Are you one of those people who avoids doctors at all costs and just self-medicates as need be, or do you check in with a 'professional' from time to time?

Nope, I'm the exact opposite! As you may have noticed last month I saw the doctor four times in two weeks...this is pretty excessive, you'd think I was a sick old woman from that would you not? Although prior to that I was rather pleased with myself for not having gone to the doctors for like three months. And I go see my psychiatrist every six months.

Thursday Threesome

::303---451---501::

Onesome: 303-- In what household product line is this number used as a size? Can you guess, or will you have to hit the link?

Porque? What 'chu taking about, Willis? I've never seen anything like those numbers before, so I can't tell you without hitting the link *does so* I still have no idea what you're talking about, because why the Heck would I ever use it? Size of cans, really, they come in small, medium and large!

Twosome: 451-- Where is this number used in a title? Bonus: without Google, what is the significance of the number?

Nope, although I thought that book was about a plane, I keep getting it mixed up with Farenheight 911. Although from looking at the link it seems paper burns at that temperature. Hmmm...interesting.

Threesome: 501-- Where is this number used to denote a style? Ah, you should know this one ...

Oh, hey I know this one! Jeans! Levi's jeans! :OD I had a pair a long time ago, expensive sons of guns. I bet that size rating is for men's jeans, you'd never get away with putting a three digit number on women's jeans! Even I have fallen into this, when I was at the irregular jeans wharehouse and could only fit into size 14s I was horrified! I'm currently a size 11, so why I was a 14 is a mystery. Irregular jeans indeed!

Anyway, I hope my US friends can help me out with my question, although, US schools seem to be widely different depending where you are...sounds pretty complicated, is there any plans to standardise the system? It's gotta be confusing when you move otherwise!

Yikes, I've got two minutes to update this thing before midnight! So off I go!

Aww nuts, just missed it...I've got the George III disease with dating stuff...although he dates and times his letters by when he starts to write 'em, not when he finishes...Alas, not my style. :OP

In high school, you have a set schedule that you follow every day, and it is the same for every day. Mondays through Fridays, unless something comes up or there's a holiday or something. Each subject usually gets about 45-50 minutes, unless it's a "block" class in which it takes up two class periods, therefore being 90-100 minutes. Block classes are usually those that have way more material to get through. There are usually six xlass periods in the day, with a break for lunch around noon or so.

However, since my high school was weird and was on trimesters instead of semesters, don't take my word as gospel. See what other people from over here say first.

Well after a certain amount of weeks, the classes are over and your schedule totally changes. So for a school on trimesters, like mine, you'd have the same schedule for 12 weeks and then switch. Most schools run on quarters though, or semesters, so I don't know how many weeks they do it for.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure everyone over here has the same schedule every day. :P You only start with different schedules depending on the day once you get in college.

Well you could take more classes a day if your school day was longer, but I think 8 AM to 2:30 PM is long enough. Like I said, my school was weird, so I can't speak for the rest of the country's schools.

Are you under the impression that you HAVE to take a specific regimen of classes? Because at my school, we not only made our OWN schedules, but we were given guidelines of certain amounts of credits in each subject we were REQUIRED to have that year. Other than that, we could pick our own electives. If you want, you can take the next year's required classes early, thereby avoiding them in the final year. I had enough credits in math to not take it in senior year, but I did because it was college credit and therefore wouldn't have to take Calculus in college.

It depends on the degree you're going for, though most degrees have a minimum requirement of three credits in math (or whatever other non-related subject there is). My Calculus class was 4 credits, so it covered that and then some. As far as what Calculus is, well...let's just say I'm very glad I got it out of the way before college, because it's way too complicated. :P

For my degree requirements I'm going for right now, a good deal of the credit requirements are english and science. Also, the credits per class differ on the difficulty of the class. If it's something easy like Stress Management, it might only be two credits. If it's something really hard like Calculus or Astronomy, it can be four credits. It varies from one to four, though there aren't too many one-credit classes.
