11:00pm: Well, it's a bit late - again! Where does the time go after 10pm? I swear an hour passes in like three seconds - but I've decided I better continue my tale of the cruise, otherwise I'll never finish telling you all about it!
So, let's not beat around the bush, but dive right in!
Moving on to Day 4, our first day in a port! As previously mentioned I spent the first few days in Mum and Dad's cabin and when I woke up on this day I saw land outside for the first time in what seemed like ages! We had arrived in Mare!
Mum and Dad had already been on a cruise that went to Mare, so Dad decided not to come, Mum though accompanied the little bro and I since this would be our first time on the tender. Of course, she mostly came for my benefit. :OP
The big problem with being in ports that need tenders is that in the morning peak-time passengers need tickets to take one of them to shore. This means that from 9:30am to about 12pm there's an announcement from the Cruise Director like every five minutes! I didn't mind all that much, but my little bro stayed up late and wanted to sleep in, but couldn't of course.
Anywho, Mum's wise advice was to wait until the tenders were open when there was no need for a ticket and the tenders wouldn't be anywhere near as crowded. So after lunch, we headed off - however, there was a slight problem with Mare - namely that all the interesting stuff required a 17km drive in a non-airconditioned bumpy bus. It was the sort of port where you'd have to go early if you wanted to get stuff done. However, there were a few shops and whatnot around the dock area and Mum thought it would be fun to take a bit of a walk around.
I of course was rather scared of the tender, but I had my squeezy ball and Mum to sit next to so I managed to survive! However, I was extremely disconcerted to find that on reaching land - contrary to Mum's axiom - I felt all wobbly on my feet! Apparently the typical thing is one either doesn't get their sea legs and thus whenever they get back to land they're good to go, or they do get their sea legs and have a bit of trouble on land. However, my inner ear decided to be a dick and give me both!
Still, it was pretty interesting to check out the small shop area and Mum found a church. It was a little ramshackle - it didn't have a cross on top of it or anything, but it had an altar inside and pews, there was even a Bible in there, but it was in French, so Mum got to practice her reading skills, LOL.
Another point of interest, the main shop in the area was closed - apparently it's a French thing to have Wednesday afternoon off. There was however a little market, but none of us saw anything of interest although my brother and I decided that we should get a tropical shirt for Dad's birthday.
By this point it was getting to three o'clock - my little bro took his time putting on sunscreen so I don't think we actually arrived on the island until two or so, however it turned out to be a very good idea because Mum and I both ended up getting sunburnt! Mum wasn't too concerned, but I was worried because you know, every time one gets sunburned it increases the chance of skin cancer! It was also at this point I discovered I hadn't brought my sunscreen, shit! Fortunately, the little bro was happy to share his.
Anyway! The ship left the island soon after 5pm on the way to Mystery Island (drum roll please!), however I'll have to leave that for tomorrow.
Right, it's getting quite late and I stayed up waaaaay too late last night, which was a really pisspoor idea because the niggling sore throat I had yesterday has become quite a bit worse and a runny nose was thrown into the bargain today. In fact it was bad enough that when I went to do my volunteering the co-ordinator decided I should head home early - I didn't even end up staying an hour! But I've done more than two-hours volunteering the last few times, so I didn't protest too much. :OP
Right, I need to head off, work calls tomorrow and I need to do a lot of washing too!
So for now goodnight!
So, let's not beat around the bush, but dive right in!
