Official Period Start
Yeah, last night ended up being more of a "preview" period, with just a little blood here and there -- but after I got home from work tonight, the faucet finally turned on properly, and now here we are, experiencing the Official First Day Of My Period. *sighs* Like, I know it's better that it's here and I can get it over with, but I do hate how it makes concentrating on anything so much harder...well, nothing I can do but power through and give you the daily write-up:
Work – Today was a better day at work, I am happy to report – mostly because I had actual things to do! Imagine that! Specifically:
A) I checked on the report of overpayments on pledges and gifts posted to the wrong campaign, moved what needed to be moved, and called some donors about the fact they had two pledges coming from the same bank account
B) I took a call from a guy who I’d called previously about having two pledges – turns out he’d set one up by accident while trying to figure out how to pay his original pledge with a credit card, as I’d originally suspect; ended up moving some stuff around, removing the duplicate pledge, and making sure his card was attached to the correct pledge so the right amount was charged
C) I went through all the failed credit cards for the month of September and marked anybody who hadn’t already fixed their issues to receive a mailed reminder
D) I e-mailed some files to my supervisor, who can’t seem to be bothered to fix his password to access the file-sharing site (*rolls eyes*)
E) And I took the obituaries out of today’s paper and got a start on those – there were multiple pages’ worth, so that should hold me for a bit!
I mean, yeah, I did occasionally have moments where I worked on my puzzles, but those were fewer and further between than they have been. Nice to have some actual work at work – makes the day go by faster! (Of course, now that I’ve said that, tomorrow there will suddenly be all sorts of tasks for me to do, and I’ll be grumpy about it. :P)
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – back on the bike yet again, and back to my DVD of comedy action cop movie Hot Fuzz as I –
A) Finished off the movie itself, with Nick, Danny, and the rest of the cops taking down the remaining bad guys with some pretty impressive action sequences (punctuated by plenty of funny bits, of course) – and then having to do looooads of paperwork. XD And then having to deal with one final, forgotten enemy at the end… Honestly, even in this era of “all cops are bastards” (and let’s face it, the position is VERY easily abused, as this exact movie shows), I would still recommend this to someone looking for a good silly action romp. It’s a solid flick and I still enjoy it a lot. :)
B) Watched the outtakes, which was mostly people being completely unable to keep straight faces during their lines. XD Along with Simon Pegg having trouble with the horse that Angel rides into town to start off the big climax, and a special section at the end specifically for outtakes that made Nick and Danny more explicitly bisexual. XD (If you’re wondering what the hell I’m on about – Nick was supposed to have a female love interest in this film, but when they cut her character, most of her lines were given to Danny. Unchanged. Meaning, yeah, the film basically shows them as love interests, but never actually acknowledges it. :P)
C) And watched a handful of deleted scenes/snippets from that section of the bonus materials. In fact, I watched a few of them twice – once with Edgar Wright’s commentary off, once with it on. Might do the same with the rest of them tomorrow – there’s plenty of them, after all! And it is interesting to hear why some stuff was cut (mostly gags that just didn’t land when they were actually committed to screen). So yeah – we’ll see how much pedaling time doing that takes up tomorrow!
2. Continue editing “Londerland Bloodlines: Downtown Queensland”: Check – though we didn’t get to Alice actually drinking Victor’s blood in tonight’s chunklet, like I presumed we would last night. Instead, we got through Victor offering his blood (pointing out that not only is he the closest person available, and willing, he ALSO is definitely clean of the plague that was going around just a couple of chapters before); Alice confirming with him that he was fine with donating (with Victor pointing out it was only fair, since he drank her blood before, and simply asking if it would hurt so he could brace himself – and getting blushy when Alice informed him that it would do anything but); and Alice preparing to chomp down on Victor’s neck –
Only to pull away when he let out a strange sharp gasp...and then discover that, uh, he popped a stiffie just from the feel of her fangs against his skin. XD Cue him confessing with deep embarrassment how he read Dracula as a teenager, and how the scene of the vampire brides going after Jonathan really stuck with him. XD Alice assured him a couple of times that it was fine – after all, her preferred hunting method outside of combat is “offer a fake ‘quickie’ to whoever might proposition me that I don’t find completely odious” – and allowed him to flee to the bathroom to calm himself down some before they proceeded. I ended tonight’s page on her listening to him splash his face with all the cold water – tomorrow, we actually get to Alice getting her first taste of Victor! And trust me, she likes what she drinks...
3. Watch something on FreeTube/Invidious: Check – FreeTube remains down, so it was over to Invidious to do a bit of catching up on the OXBox list videos by watching “7 Most Ridiculous Microtransactions That Nickel-and-Dimed You in Bold and Innovative New Ways!” Jane and Mike talking about some of the most ridiculous fucking microtransactions in video gaming history. Things locked behind a paywall that really did not need to be locked behind a paywall included a proper fast travel system (Dragon’s Dogma 2, which made you pay for additional crystals you could put down in locations you wanted to port to – though they didn’t sell the ferrystones that you had to spend to port to said crystals, soo…); frame data for figuring out exactly how various attacks and combos work (Tekken 7, who bucked the tradition of including that in the training mode and made serious gamers pay $3 for the privilege); new announcer voices for your fighting game (Multiversus, which made you shell out for each character you wanted to hear doing announcer stuff, like asking you to pick your fighter); and fucking New Game + (Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which included the ability to play New Game+ mode in a DLC bundle). *shakehead* The big game companies are out of control, everyone – not that we didn’t already know that, but sheesh. Why I’m grateful for companies like Larian, which was very up-front about the fact that “there will be no DLC or microtransactions – special versions of the game, sure, but that’s it,” and the Paralives team, which has said “the Early Access version of the game will be $40; the full version will be more expensive; but there will be no paid DLC – just free updates.” *salutes* We appreciate your service!
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: N/A – no Valice Multiverse on Wednesdays, and I’m already all set with the Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) queue for this week, so… *shrug* Ended up being a good thing, though, as my friend Ace ended up posting the second chapter of their Good Omens/Campfire Cooking In Another World fic, so of course I had to read and review. *nods* It’s a very amusing ride so far – Anthony Crowley’s finding it pretty hard to fly under the radar with a giant fenrir familiar, but he’s gotten into the Merchant Guild and Adventurer’s Guild, so at least he has ways to make some cash (especially with the help of his “Online Retailer” special skill). However, he just found out his familiar has a human form, and it’s a human form he’s very much attracted to, so – things might be getting awkward between them in the near future. XD We’ll see what happens!
Other: While it was significantly cooler today, it was still nice enough to play beanbags, so play beanbags we did – though today was one of the days where Dad ended up doing a lot better than Mom and me. He won the protracted fight for first in the first game, and easily took the second as well – it was sheer luck that I managed to throw better than he did in the third and get the win! Mom, meanwhile, struggled in the first game, but managed to get a pair of seconds in the second and third ones, so that’s not too bad. Final scores were me 2-3-W; Dad W-W-3; Mom 3-2-2. We’ll see what happens tomorrow and if the scores even out a little more again then!
Not a bad day for the first day of my period, I suppose! But now it's time to end it and hit the sheets in the hope I can get some decent sleep. Night all!
